Ran into the following quotes about games on the internet. Thought you might like some:

The game of life is a lot like football. You have
to tackle your problems, block your fears, and
score your points when you get the opportunity.
- Unknown

We didn't lose the game; we just ran out of time.
- Vince Lombardi

If past history was all there was to the game, the
richest people would be librarians.
- Warren Buffett

Your opponent, in the end, is never really the
player on the other side of the net, or the
swimmer in the next lane, or the team on the other
side of the field, or even the bar you must
high-jump. Your opponent is yourself, your
negative internal voices, your level of
determination.
- Grace Lichtenstein, American Writer & Editor

When you know your own strengths and weaknesses,
you are better able to know those of others. Once
you do, managing people becomes an optimization
game, where everyone wins.
- Floyd Maxwell (1957-)

Democrats will play the old Washington game of
calling reductions in the rate of growth of
spending for any program a 'cut'.
- Bruce Bartlett

Love is a game that two can play and both win.
- Eva Gabor

I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my life. I
have lost almost 300 game 26 times I have been
trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed.
I have failed over and over and over again. That
is why I succeed...
- Michael Jordan

Once the game is over, the King and the pawn go
back in the same box.
- Italian proverb

Half the game is 90% mental.
- Yogi Berra

Chess is as elaborate a waste of human
intelligence as you can find outside of an
advertising agency.
- Raymond Chandler

They are playing a game they are playing at not
playing a game, if I show them that I see they
are, I shall break the rules and they will punish
me Therefore I must play the game of not seeing
that I see the game.
- RD Laing

Mathematics is a game played according to certain
simple rules with meaningless marks on paper.
- David Hilbert

No one man is superior to the game.
~
- A. Bartlett Giamatti

A strange game. The only winning move is not to
play.
- WOPR - In the movie "War Games" after learning the futility of "playing" Global Thermonuclear War by playing a seemingly endless series of games of Tic-Tac-Toe with itself.

Hi2u,

while checking out the most recent korean starcraft VOD's on youtube I stumbled upon some girl doing English commentaries of starcraft replays.

http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Conaanaa

Although she still has a lot to learn, I would appreciate it if some ppl could watch some of her shoutcasting and comment on what she could improve on. I personally think she too much of a Slasher, very technical, but lacking the enthusiasm of a Whead to pull me into the game.

My friend, that's weird (No comments)
Posted by Lord*Fuck @ 18:41 CST, 26 December 2006 - iMsg
Since they(admin) don't seem to want it major, I have to post it into my journal to make it a bit visible.

Today, first day of group stage of the CPL event, we've seen lots of Quake 3 matches, that ended with "blow the newb" scores. That's what happen when you open the competition to anyone, you have lots of people (here mainly from the US) that want to have their chance to play the star players and show their skills at the international level, should it be for fun, or for cash, should it be with, or without any success at all.

The first day wasn't that interesting, besides the possibility to see the form of our heroes against unknown players, just a quick overview about the form of Cooller, Czm, or viju. Lots of demos are available to see if a 55 -4 against bobby24 is better than a 63 -3 against robby32.

Nothing special until yet, but something, my friend, has been disturbing us during some of these games, its about some players, that are payed to travel around the world, sponsored in fact, to come and loose to that event, or at best make a top 32, you may have recognize the persons I'm speaking about :

god Ms.X, trito, and liefje are sponsored to be top 32 and to travel from event to event during players like spartie, k1ller, St_Germain and many more I just forget are staying at home, watching them loose poorly on GTV.

In Gotfrag's preview, you can see the answer of the girls to the question :

What are your chances at this event?
Therese "god/trito" Andersson: Since I'm out of practice and since I would rather play Quake 4, I will focus on just enjoy playing and having a nice time in game.
Livia "chrome/Liefje" Teernstra: LOL maybe if we fire up some UT :D.

This will be the first CPL event to use group stages prior to a double elimination bracket, are you pleased with this system?
Livia "chrome/Liefje" Teernstra: Sure, I like how you get to play more games in the beginning.

After her 64 to something lose to ectz on Dm6, I'm sure she's happy to be able to play more games before travelling back home since she finished 3rd of her group.

trito finished second of her group and will go into the Double Elimination. I wish her good luck for the following matches because she'll need a lot of.

Ms.X had 2 negative scores against "deanomyte", and finished 4th and last of her group.

I'm not gonna tell the girls can't play, but dude, I mean c'mon, who on earth is payed to place top32? What are they doing in every interview since we already know they will crash up arriving in the real part of the competition.
They are just having vacation and fun (though that is great for her) but that's fully unfair.

That lead me to ask different questions :
- Why are they sponsored?
- What is the interest of VIA in sponsoring them?
- Why don't they choose some better players?

At the first question the answer is really simple :
- they've got that things that we call tits or boobs, and vagina, that make them recognized as girls.

At the second, studying Marketing and being quite involved in a lot of different sponsoring researches, I'd say, the interest of VIA, rather having a quality team, with good results, will try to become known or recognize threw Originality, or like you sometimes present an ecologist project defending the nature, here you have a different representation than the competitiveness. In that way, they take a different position than all the sponsor we know sponsoring the bests players, that will make people speak about them and remember in a quite more easier way. Am I not the one speaking about VIA here? That answers also the third question.

So what's the problem in fact?
The thing that make laugh every gtv spec, that disturb any Quake player that know how to vote yes to a random vote, just feel angry, but why?

I'm not gonna say its bad to develop feminine professional gaming, I am not gonna say what VIA do is a bad thing, because its their choice to put their money wherever they want to, but in a world where wemen want to compete and be equal to men, let me just tell you, because they are nothing from the best, but have that double X chromosomes, they'll earn free trips to each events during our national hopes will stay home, and that, my friend, is weird.

I've been involved in Esreality for quite a while, read the majority of the flames (and written a load myself), thoughts and opinions on the site which is the main reason for writing this piece. Inspired by other content on the site such as the Double Elimination post by Redeye; Let’s go massive by Flying DJ; the majority of articles by Vicious’ articles and more recently the slew of posts and articles regarding the newest member to gaming; WSVG. I begun writing this article quite a while ago, and since that time there have been so many posts along the same lines as what I was writing so I felt that I would also try to include the arguments voiced in these other posts (a list of links can be found below). Let’s start by taking a conceptual look at gaming and attempting to bring some conclusions and facts out of the soup in which we currently swim. Though I have to say I do diversify quite a lot in this article, looking at social and economical agenda’s and asking several poignant questions related to the medium of gaming. Rather than just looking at gaming I think we need to look at, to borrow from David Brent, the whole pie.

Yes now only 8 days until i leave this awful rain-ridden country, and the panic is setting in. More or less, i've got everything ready to go away with, bar probably the correct mental state to endure such a trip. As you'll have already noticed i'm full of shit, but i genuinely feel like i've kicked back for the last 6 months, getting material things ready but not fully appreciating the cultures i'm about to embrace in asia. So after long deliberations with my Polish travelling friend Mr. Birch, we have decided to land into Hong Kong first rather than India. The reasoning behind such thinking was, that we hadn't understood the size of India ('its the size of bloody europe you fool', i was told numerous times), our passage into China through Nepal was blocked by crazy be-heading fundementalists (pussy - i know), and well where do you start on two drunken white boys traipsing through rural china. So Hong Kong seems the best place to land into. Really looking forward to getting to Hong Kong, from what i've read and been told, it looks to be right up my alley. A massive metropolis with a right mixture of eastern and western culture, with plenty of bars, women and most importantly fantastic gambling opportunities. Then again a friend by the name of Lewis, told Mr. Birch to keep me away from Macau as its full of ho's, scoundrels and gamblers. Even in their far flung ex-colonies, you can still rely on the good old portugese to enjoy themselves. From their the plan is to head into Vietnam, do a bit of fishing on a nice beach for few weeks, then onto the angkor empire trail in Cambodia. From their go and party 'till new year in Thailand, and then travel down to Singapore and live the high life for a couple of days, hopefully ready to go back to some sanity in New Zealand. Once in New Zealand, the plan is to chill with family who emigrated there a few years ago, maybe do some work to try and get some more cash ready for the onslaught of Latin America. Aah Latin America, the place to fulfil all my dreams. Its got everything, beaches, women, music, language, natural wonders, savage history, beautiful history, women. I can't fucking wait to land into Santiago. Chile just looks the most wonderful place, and i have no doubt that i won't be disappointed. Stick with my blog, obviously i have nothing to say at the moment, thinkin i might write one tomorrow with a list of things i'm bringing with me, more as a reference, but this blog can only get better as i drink myself around the world.
