You are competing at Quakecon this year! Why are you competing this year as opposed to 2013?
Compete last year in what team mode? CA? lol. =P
You stated that you stopped dueling because of the time limit, why are you going to compete in duel this year?
It’s only one of the reasons I dislike duel on QL but it’s not the one reason that made me stop playing it. I dislike duel on QL because of many factors such as the timelimit, the 12years old overplayed maps, the one sided maps combined with that low TL and so on. Even if I was ok with all of this I do not have the time and the motivation it requires in order to do well. I am just using the duel tournament as a form of warmup for the CTF one, I don’t expect to really do well.
After a year of use in competitions, what do you think of the two newer maps Sinister and Cure?
They are ones of the few that are actually balanced and allow you to play out of control without getting overly crushed with no chance at even fighting back in some cases.
Is there a specific duelist you want to beat at Quakecon?
There are a few I would like to not lose to.
What is your favorite map going in to the Quakecon Duel Tournament?
Not sure actually, I don’t have enough history on all of them. I don’t even know what map I’ll be picking at Quakecon, I just know a couple I’m definitely not going to pick and I’m not going to say which ones for obvious reasons. :P
Will playing in both the CTF and Duel affect your performance?
Why would it? As I said I have no expectations regarding the duel tournament so I won’t be going into an “emo mode” after I get eliminated in duel and I don’t think there is such a thing as “playing too much” that affect negatively your performances.
In the past two years in the Quake Live esports scene, there has been a drastic increase of donation drives for events, players, and teams. What do you think of all of this? Do you think this is preventing Organizations and Players from becoming self sufficient?
I don’t mind donations, people do whatever they want with their money. Still, it is very sad. It is sad because it is the one thing the community has to resort to to keep QL alive.. well sort of anyway. I don’t believe it’s preventing anything but an earlier death of the game.
You felt like Strenx was being dishonest about his intentions for his donations. Why?
I have already explained why and I do not wish to fuel this subject of a drama for nothing.
How is the Quake Live French scene doing? Are there any local LANS or any activity?
Not well at all but not better or worse than any other community I’d imagine. There hasn’t been any LAN in years and you won’t even be able to find an entirely french lineup in any team modes cup I believe. If you were to compare it with Q3 ten years ago, you basically had a french ctfpickup running all day long and you could fill a 250 to 300 french people LAN with Quake ALONE. Activity is definitely on the decline everywhere and I don’t think it’s going to stop until it’s effectively dead. Sadly.
What are 3 things you want to see changed or implemented in Quake Live 2.0?
There is one thing that should have been implemented years ago, it is a proper matchmaking with a ladder. That is absolutely mandatory nowadays and unfortunately we won’t ever see it (not that it would have mattered, it’s way too late imo). I’m not sure what the two other things would be. There are many many little things that could be improved but I don’t think it would have a meaningful impact on the success of the game.
There are over 10 Arena FPS games currently in development, have any of those games gotten your attention? If so, do these games have the potential to become a major esport?
I think out of those games there are only two that might do kinda well and those two are Reborn and UT4. Reborn because 2GD has good connections within the e-sport “industry” and UT4 just because it’s coming from Epic. All the others will be logical failures with a 17 players community at best. None of them will have the marketing and the gameplay it needs to appeal a wider audience.
Reflex being a prime exemple of that, who will play a CPMA clone besides the CPMA players? It won’t attract anyone. Even more recently announced “Warxon” which I still doubt is legit as the idea behind it is even more stupid.
What happened to Shootmania? Why did it die so quickly?
It’s shit, why else?
Ok back to Quakecon. What are your predictions for top 3 in Duel and CTF?
With no particular order:
Duel: cypher/rapha/evil
CTF: ukn/exp/rapha’s team (sorry don’t know the name)
Thank you for your time! Any last words?
Thanks and hmm.. go EU at Quakecon perhaps?! :)
