Starcraft 2 EG Masters Cup Finals (10 comments)

Today is the final day of the Starcraft 2 EG MSI Masters Cup, with only 4 players remaining from the original 16. Tournament favorite

root.KiWiKaKi has already been eliminated, along with teammate

root.Drewbie.

The remaining four players vying for the $1,000 first place prize are

TL.HuK,

root.SLush,

EG.Machine and

EG.LzGaMeR. The winner of the event will then face off against

EG.IdrA who is here in the States preparing for MLG Dallas next weekend. If the player wins, they will be awarded a MSI GT660 notebook.

Ziggy "nVc" Orzeszek about the birth and growth of Level Up TV, how he feels he has been doing in Quake Live in both TDM as well as Duel, about his ENC escapades and his experiences in other games. Here is a short snippet of the interview:

How did you come up with the idea of starting a broadcasting company? And who else was involved exactly?

Back in November 2009 myself and the rest of team immune were like now, playing Quake Live TDM. The gametype itself though is by all standards, relatively inactive. Thus came the concept of Level Up TV to effectively just pass the time and keep us involved within the Quake scene. We'd all played at a decent level and we found that the other organisations covering the game at that time lacked in real in-depth commentary with players that knew the game inside out. We were also fortunate that I had my foot in other games like Team Fortress 2 and therefore had access to high profile players within those other games who we could draft in to help out and grow the brand. The guys who help run the team now are myself, disrepute and most recently trance who we refer to as the "Technical Director" between us. He manages all of the streaming side of things.

Cooller, with no fifth name as yet capable of consistently making that quartest into a quintent.

SK Gaming have published an article which explores the group of players who are battling for that degree of recognition.

DaHanG are considered to gauge who is most likely to make the next step up.

Addressing k1llsen's chances:

A new-found desire, sick aim and all the fan backing in the world is enough to give k1llsen a case for stepping into the upper echelon of Quake Live. But he's marred by inconsistency, something that he needs to vastly improve on heading into DreamHack Winter this November and future IEM Global Challenges.

The first matches of the IEM5 Quakelive European Championship are starting this week. All the matches are default scheduled to Wednesday after 15:00 CDT, and one of them will be picked up by ESL TV. All the games are played as bo3 and the maplist is as following: Aerowalk, Blood Run, Dismemberment, Furious Heights, Hektik, Lost World, Vertical Vengeance.

UPDATED: Postponed qualifier #2 will be hosted on Saturday, 30th with the start at 17:00 CET. This was because it clashed with the Dreamhack Qualifier, which has now been changed from 14:00 start to 13:00 CET.

As many of the players required, we have moved Qualifier #2 to Saturday, 30th of October. Seeing as there is IEM night on Wednesday and some players have to commit to their work and other non e-sports related stuff, we have met their need and postponed the qualifier.

This last qualifier will however differ from previous two as not 4 players will qualify for MSI BEAT IT QuakeLive tournament at DreamHack, but 3 slots will be available for Sweden. The reason is the confirmed invitation of

Sander "Vo0" Kaasjager, famous Quake player.

Qualifier on Saturday will be played in best-of-three format from the beginning just like the previous one. Level UP Tv will of course be there to provide stream for your viewing pleasure.

Quake Live Premium Pak 3 features more than just 4 new/old maps, it also includes balance and physics changes, some chat tokens, fixes, FreezeTag and map adjustments.

Most notable, Chain Jumping was added, the Quad Damage multiplier was reduced from 4x to 3x and the step height adjusted from 18 to 22. Read the full changelog below.

- Added Chat Tokens for Subscribers. Works on online servers when used in 'Team Say' messages:

- Added Chain Jumping (Small acceleration boosts gained by performing closely timed sequences of jumps).
- Added 'Thaws' to the in-game and end-game scoreboard in FreezeTag

- Added thaw tick sound in FreezeTag.
- Added cg_drawCrosshairTeamHealthSize upon request, to allow you to set the font size (between 0.10f and 0.26f) of the teammate health/armor read-out on teammate crosshair hovers.
- Added 'find' command to substring (case-sensitive) search the console history
- Changed FreezeTag such that Quad & Battle Suit power-ups do not persist across FT rounds.
- Changed the nailgun to now fire 10 nails @ 12 damage each (instead of 15nails x 8dmg).
- Changed the nailgun spread from 500 to 400.
- Changed the nail speed from 900 to 1000.
- Changed Flight power-up into a holdable jetpack, hold the 'use' key to boost.
- Changed Quad factor from 4x to 3x.
- Changed Spectator CompHud Scoreboard highlight color, it (yellow) proved illegible on most streams and projections for Duel. I've kept the use of cg_team_colorized in team gametypes, but now use a higher contrast gray in non-team gametypes.
- Changed Stepheight from 18 to 22.
- Changed the default 'rate' value from 8000 to 16000, now restrict its range from 8000 to 25000.
- Fixed hitching that would occur when connection was lost to the XMPP network.
- Fix for telefrags not killing spawn protected players in instagib (which resulted in them becoming invulnerable, instead of telefragged).
- Fix for double countdown in FreezeTag.
- Fixed alias command string limit getting truncated to 64 instead of the full 256 characters.
- Fixed cg_forceEnemyModel defaults to now properly load "keel/bright".
- Fixed old qzdm3 demos to now properly redirect to 'hearth' instead of 'arenaofdeath'
- Fixed bot item knowledge, bots should better time items.

Philipp "reload" Kotecki participated as one of the underdogs in the last chance qualifier for the European Mainround of the 5th Intel Extreme Masters season. During that tournament he had to play against a few of the top players, like another EPS-Player

Sebastian "abso" Wanek or

Alessandro "stermy" Avallone. stermy was his opponent in the semi-final and reload managed to put up a decent fight against the italian powerhouse. He also had to face the Dignitas player
