a lot of whats up there was after the two week deadline, we gave srs the interview about a month ago and it took this long to get back. cypher's a busy boy. at the time there wasn't a single good question on the esr post. the last thing on there was "do a troll interview".

basically next time we're going to publicise it more, get better questions, get player cfg's etc

Being the best is not a great philosophy. Sooner or later, you won't be the best anymore. It won't be nice either. It will taken from you forcefully. Like getting raped, what you want has nothing to do with it.

Aside from that, the best is relative. If everyone is an ass, being better than all the asses doesn't mean much.

Personally, if pro-gaming is nothing more than a promotional tool, i'd rather not be part of it. Does the world really need just another means of selling products? Players come and go, but the industry can stay.

true, the idea is to get the feature series rolling so when tournaments start and life in Quake Live gets a little more interesting we have an established format.

the interview was never meant to be exhaustive, it means we can go back again after with new questions. admittedly EUQL's popularity took a toll on it as it meant people with interesting questions may not have seen / bothered with it. the only way to remedy it is to carry on to bigger and better things.

You know its a sad day for quake when one of the top if not the top dueler in the world (whos not even 20) is asked such bullshit by a website that claims to be a Quake site...yes folks, not a random website, or even a competitive gaming site like esr, but one whos name has the word quake in it. I'm sure this interview got you guys a couple hundred extra hits on the site, but your credibility and first impression is....well for lack of a better term, the SHIT IS WEAK.

hey, all I'm saying is that there are much better questions that could have been asked. If the community didn't give you guys enough to choose from, then you shouldn't have used as many of their questions.
Interviews with top players now days in general are very bland because the wrong questions are asked and the players often give bullshit answers. Cypher is a player who could give amazing answers, but you guys didn't get the interview out of him.
Site is pretty sexy and all, however you need to get someone who is more aware of the actual game and has watched cyphers unique playstyle to interview a top dueler. Is it just me or do interviews done by esports websites need to talk more about the game and less about the standard bullshit "So what does it feel like to play video games for a living".
In all honesty I wish you lots of luck with the website and hope that you guys deliver us some great content as the community really needs it if we want QL to blow up and turn into every Quakers wet dream.

both gonzo and myself came from css, i've now completely dropped the game, don't write about it or play it. gonzo is still involved with it.

i was looking for a new game to turn my attentions to, that was quake live which i enjoy far more than i ever did with cs. initially i just made an irc channel to get my old cs mates invites to lure them over with me, and it evolved into what EUQL is now.

we're new to quake, but we're good at what we do. most of the people i've met through quake have been alright, far better than most of the scum that infest cs, but as we can see every game has its own dickheads. hello aaron.

we've set up EUQL on a razer thin budget, and within two weeks secured an interview with one of the worlds top quake players. we have influence with Multiplay for their LAN and soon-to-be online events, as well as the UKESA which has 3 seasons a year with a £35,000 per season budget. gonzo is on the council and i'm an "advisor".

its small beginnings i know, atm i'm just happy that we have an interview with cypher. there will be bigger and better to come and we are already looking to develop a new and better website.

I don't think it's overly presumptuous. I get annoyed by people that are constantly trying to tear down anything someone tries to do for the community.
I'd have had nothing to say if he had shitty questions and told everyone else to shove it. But he didn't. He just got into the Quake scene, from CS, and probably doesn't even know what to ask, by our standards.
But he was aware of that fact, and offered up the chance for those of us here with a curiosity to make suggestions on what to ask. The entire thread was a big line of jokes; many of which were funny and I laughed.
But my point is, you can't begrudge a guy that's put in the effort to ask "If you've ever wanted to ask Cypher anything", get no real answers, and then has to come up with his own.
I just get tired of how intentionally discouraging many of the users around here are towards anyone that wants to do anything besides flame each other.

He wanted input, he got a bunch of jokes, which I've acknowledged that many were funny, but it doesn't change the fact that he presented an opportunity to ask whatever you'd like to know. There were no questions about setup, aside from "can you give us your ql and q3 config", but this was 1 of 3 submitted within the same post, which ended with "You should ask him troll questions for teh lolz. Serious interviews are shit."

So again, I'm not saying that his questions were good, I'm saying that noone on esr, where he asked what we'd like to know, has the right to complain about what he wound up going with.

He's been hanging about Quake for a few months now.

He's setup a website that's trying to be a hub for European Quake and he apparently hasn't bothered to try and educate himself on Quake in any depth at all.

Not that a decent interview with Cypher would have even required any in dept knowledge of Quake at all.

Dr.Gonzo isn't totally inexperienced with Quake either.

its not like you can go out and buy a textbook, there's no real way to learn the past decade of quake in a few months. i have a life, uni work and placement chasing that is far more important than finding out who everyone thought was good 6 years ago but choked and was never seen from again to please a few esr readers.

You don't need to buy a textbook or know who was good six years ago in order to produce an interesting interview with a top player of any game, just a sufficient amount of game knowledge and information on the person being interviewed.

Honestly, you're trying too hard, focus on making a good website with worthwhile content before exclaiming about your success.

Your eSports Political (LOL) standings don't mean anything, your site and its content is currently very poor. This interview wasn't worth the time you spent trying to get it. There are better discussion with top Quake players on ESR all the time.

EUQL is nothing special, you may have made it on a "razer thin budget" but that doesn't make it anything special. It's a fairly simple website with some hosting, congratulations.
