1. Extension platform is not publicly visible/open unlike GM. Yes, Quake Live standalone has JS hooks which eventually can lead to third party scripts, but this feature is hidden, undocumented, and on numerous occasions sponge said that he will pull it if abused. Does not inspire confidence for one to devote their precious time to developing for something if it can be pulled at the whims of a disgruntled developer (who btw has said he would fully disable console, cvars and other things that give Quake it's "Quake" nature if given the chance.) To even reach this hidden feature you have to use non-standard techniques. I know of one project that looks to emulate GM functions in new standalone but it looks kind of ill-conceived IMO. From the looks of it, it basically moves a game that just lost browser support back into a browser running inside another browser just to add a few user scripts, which of course would then have to be ported from their standard GM implementation to this new mismash which even still would be missing core Greasemonkey functions. Doesn't sound feasible and looks to add unnecessary overheard.

2. Inertia: many (most) of the user scripts available for QL were developed years ago, as far back as '09, and the majority of their developers have since quit playing QL. Very unlikely all of that community work will be reproduced on this new half-assed system, especially, as we've just seen it can be discarded at any time.

Say what you want about browser and qlprism support but at least they just worked for the most part.

tl;dr: community development support for QL just dropped by about 99%; even clever community devs will probably not waste time now

It worked when they released the standalone but it won't keep working forever. I know it was partly broken (again) on Chrome's beta channel before release.

For some reason, the cfg goes in the old quakelive folder. Just try and exec it.

Oh well indeed it is. Figured my cfg is there, partly. For some reason, having my cfg execed, I still have quake ingame music sounds, different gamma value than what I had originally. Weird...

Bug's I've encountered so far:

- cannot see ping for servers made by friends in friends list
- there are missing textures in Winters Edge map
- launcher doesn't remember my mail and password so I have to retype it every time I connect

I got the Installer to work with Wine.
Then I managed to get the Launcher to run with Mono, but it doesn't store the game data.

If I only clicked on the E-mail, Password and Play button it stays open anything else and it closes.


So when I entered my Email, Password and clicked on Play I just had to leave it, but it didn't save the game data.

Stream announcer, again from QLprism. the "Streams" page they have now under Community is just pathetic. it re-directs you to twitch.tv/games/QL instead of having all of the current livestreams listed...

Console is smaller. makes shit hard to read if you play at low res.

Update the server browser. When you click Settings - Game settings you go into a screen where theres a small menu. Make this come up when you start QL, add the "Community" etc there. When you open "demos" for example or the serv browser make it come up side by side to the menu so it looks like a real game and not a web-page in a game. Make the server browser a bit more neat and "game" looking.

LAN-support. Imagine sitting side by side to your friends IRL and pwning them with 50 Plasma accuracy.

Add 144hz since there are 144hz monitors.

Remove the retarded funtion of /quit which closes the whole thing.
Make /quit return to menu and /exit exit the actual client. So many times ive done this misstake out of habbit.

I sometimes hit up stock q3 from steam and want to murder a small spanish boy because the engine is so shitty. Random errors freeze PC, windowing out causes freeze, alt tabbing freezes pc, game keeps crashing...

wait, you could tab out of the previous version? I was using QLPrism and when I tried to tab out while ingame, the game window would just force itself in front of everything. Going into windowed with alt-enter worked, but the game had to reload the map when going fullscreen again...

The FPS seems to stay a certain percentage lower than the com_maxfps. If I have maxfps at 125 it stays around 114. If I have it at 250 it jumps between 200 and 210.

- Had to create a shortcut myself, the 3 created by the installer were useless (can't delete them also)

- Can't see any friend, but they see me though, and can talk to me when I'm in-game

- 800x600 seems bugged for the site itself (looks like 30Hz and everything is huge) but I don't really care

It downloads the same 40mb everytime I launch the fucking thing.

And.. I can't connect to any online server it seems. It just crashes and goes back to the server list after it loaded the map. Practice games work fine though.

Edit: Am I the only one with these issues?

Edit2: Fixed, turns out there were 5/6 maps in the baseq3 folder that were in read only for whatever reason. It prevented the game from moving them and also prevented me from connecting to the servers because of the missing files.

Yea, it seems a lot of ppl have this problem though. After asking around a bit I'd rule out it being related to AMD/nVidia, but other than that I'm at a loss. It's a bit annoying, hopefully someone finds the culprit.

It would be more of a CPU/OS problem than GPU. It's related to the new sleeping in QL.

I went to BIOS and turned off SpeedStep/C1E. Now I have 250 fps.
Still I'd like to continue to use those power saving features for when I'm idling/browsing etc. So I hope id will fix take care of this.

edit: Ok, upon further testing it's actually not the power saving features. If I turn on HPET(High Precision Event Timer), 250 fps, if I turn it off fps is downscaled to ~200. Interesting.

u can get 250fps by turning HPET off and set com_idlesleep 0

I got most annoying thing ever.. when in full screen, screen is so dark so I have to use post process 1 and color correction 1 which gives me so ugly color contrast all around. Dunno how to avoid that. In firefox I just used to put it in compatibility mode for xp and run as admin and all was good (although ql folder was in roaming not locallow).

Played with other gfx settings none can give me brightness, color and contrast that I used to have in browser version.

This time set "quakelive.exe" to win xp sp3 compatibility mode.

In win7 64 bit the file is located at:
Users\...\AppData\Local\id Software\quakelive\quakelive.exe

It doesn't change the location from LocalLow to roaming, so that's like a + for standalone.

Tried compatibility mode, doesn't help me with this particular problem.

And the gamma - yeah, it's one of the inconveniences in standalone version.
You can use console in browser mode and manually set r_gamma to 1.
I posted about it here, but devs are probably busy with the more serious "black screen" issue that some people are having.

I have found a workaround for myself. Basically

where in gammareset.cfg I got seta r_gamma "1"

Don't know am I crazy, but it looks like some models (Razor, Doom, Stripe, etc.) have problem with their foot step sounds...it sounds like he walks only on one leg. :/

Footsteps are bound to fps and it wasn't fixed for standalone. On 250fps you will have 2x less foot step sounds than on 125fps.

I believe the problem starts over 200 fps.

my fps is stuck at 204fps, flat. When i set com_maxfps to 125fps I get 113, not sure why it's doing that.

reset the config to default in the account settings(complete default) same issue

letting the game just render in the background uses 80% gpu usage on a gtx 670. Not in-game, the web browser

EDIT: It seems related to HPET(according to the above post), I have HPET off because HPET gives me microstutter.

EDIT2: I just used TimerResolution to change my polling interval to 500us instead of 1ms, and now I get 230fps but it varies.

Fps jumping form 125 to whenever i set it to 250, also a 999 lagout issue If you stay in for too long.

ingame things seem alright for me except the known issues. before joinging a game everything is lagged like for 2 or 3 second. every click when browsing the servers takes 3 seconds to register.

Scroll to jump is inconsistent and doesn't register most of the time if you're pressing a movement key. I've only tested it on one computer that isn't the one I usually play on but the bind is "+moveup;wait" if anyone wants to test it. I think the command without the wait used to work in some older versions too but that never registers now.

edit: I tested it a little more and if the player is using a movement key it only responds to scroll to jump if scrolling is faster than a certain speed. If I add in more waits it works better but it leads to subsequent jumps being queued up and I jump when I don't mean to. It seems that the fps change has caused key press commands that are activated for a very short time to not register, and may have other implications on gameplay. This occurs at 125 (er 114) and 250 (200?) fps and other in between ones like 135 when I tried to get it close to 125.

I currently have it mostly working, but it's still worse than it was before the update and it makes me screw up my movement occasionally. Running the game at 250fps and changing the bind to "+moveup;wait 2" to account for the doubled fps makes it register jumps most of the time now, but not always.

It seems an update has fixed this issue for the most part. since I wrote that last post using 2 waits works better and using 4 waits is pretty much like pre-patch scroll jumping.

And when I start a duel training match vs a bot the settings are crazy. hp goes up to 300 hp and I can take hp bubbles even when I am at 180 hp. Where does that settings come from and how can I change them to normal duel settings?

I noticed this too, the hp and armor stuff is nuts in duel practice but I never really bothered testing stuff in that mode until now so idk if that has always been a bug.

The game is not even close to being as fluid and smooth as it used to be. The game is dropping frames - it feels terrible and is a micro-stuttery mess. Even running com_maxfps at 250 on maps where it is sustained does not compare to how it felt at 125 fps before.

Also, screen is way too bright and washed out at server browser screen. I shouldn't have to load a custom color profile every time I run the game. This screen's color profile should use the desktop profile.

So far, this update is very disappointing and is several steps back from how it was with QLPrism.

When in windowed mode, the menu sometimes doesn't recognize my mouseclicks (even though buttons may react to the cursor). I have to go back to full screen for my clicks to work again.

edit: wait, actually, for some reason, in windowed mode the buttons' "click zone" is sometimes always below the buttons themselves as they appear on screen. I for example have to click below "Spectate" for the click on "spectate" to be recognized. This is most likely linked to the fact that the game screen appears slightly higher than the window screen (there's a horizontal black bar at the bottom and the top is cut-off).

Ok I just fixed it by setting the windowed resolution to a resolution with the same ratio (16:10) as my full window resolution. It used to be on "Custom".

edit: actually, it goes back to "Custom" with every new launch, so I have to set the resolution every single time. So annoying.

Try 201 and 143, they are stable for me as well as 126. 125 200 250 and 144 are not.

edit: when I say stable I mean 201 jitters between 200 and 201 while 250 makes it go 190 to 210

That's just what's displayed. It can't really be capped to 126, 201 or 143. All real caps respect this rule : cap = 1000/x where x is an integer. So 1000, 500, 250, 200, 166, 142, 125, 111, 100... if you set it between two of these values, it's gonna use the closest one up for the FPS cap but it won't show on showFPS any more than what you set.

So basically if you don't set com_maxfps to one of these magic numbers, you may not see the correct FPS values. That also means that if you felt like 126 was "felt more stable" than 125, it's only placebo.

I can't say it 126 feels any different than 200 or 201, it's just annoying to have constant movement in the corner of your screen. Do you have any idea why some people don't have this problem though?

The ONLY difference between com_maxfps 126 and 142 is the number displayed on the screen. The number of frames rendered is the same. Nrz0 has a point saying the changing numbers can be annoying but, apart from that, any other feeling would be placebo, yes. If you disagree, feel free to point out why.

Well actually between 125 and 126, it's like between 125 and 142. So there is a difference in smoothness. 126 is likely to be less stable in FPS though. There's something I overlooked, though. If you happen to not be able to hit the 142 target ever, you'll never sleep. If you can hit 125, you will sleep. So if your own "limit" happens to be between 125 and 142, one will sleep and the other won't. So yeah I admit it seems possible to have a difference in feeling if your sleeping happens to last a little longer than expected everytime, making it wait more than it used to do with Q3's waiting loop instead. It's an edge case but you are right : it can happen.

I believe you that this is how it was before this update, but now I observe objectively noticeable jerkiness at com_maxfps 125, while com_maxfps 126 is more like 125 was before the update.

just checked and my cfg size is 60,2 Kb... while I recently got it cleaned by someone and it was sized down to 8 kb. Only changed a few commands since then, really strange. Also it looks like a total mess again. I can exec the cleaned cfg just fine.

really? I used to do that, i never recognized particular problems... I read to do it in a cfg guide.
I had a button bind to do it, it was very useful whenever you adjusted anything.
So what are we supposed to do, rename the qzconfig manually to autoexec, and then, what do you do when you modify your cfg, to save it in the autoexec?

What I would recommend is to manage your cfg outside of Quake. When you wanna change a cvar, change it in this file and execute it from Quake. If you /writeconfig autoexec, you dump there every single cvar set on Quake. There are two problems :
1. That makes your config file a real clusterfuck with tons of useless stuff. That's terrible if you want a quick look at your config or if you want to share it.
2. It accumulates obsolete and useless stuff. It's executed so the cvars are set and /writeconfig will write them again in the next autoexec version. Eventually you might run into MAX CVARS and you will be forced to spend a lot of time sorting cvars out to be able to play again.

Saying /writeconfig autoexec.cfg is evil is exaggerated, of course, but having a simple, clear config file with one command per line, nothing useless and things sorted correctly is really great.

Thank you very much for your answer; i thought the issue was specific with the "autoexec" config, and that doing a "writeconfig example.cfg" would have had less issues.
But the problem seems to be that "writeconfig" overwrites everything and adds useless or wrong stuff.
This is really saddening to me, because i use to mess a lot with every kind of cvar, i'm continuously testing, mostly cvars regarding crosshairs and sensitivity/accel, so the simple idea of having to do that manually every time simply crush me.

I think that i'll adopt another strategy, still using the writeconfig bind but periodically deleting the configs files and replacing it with a previously saved slightly modified one, a config which settings have been fixed for the major part but hasn't been used, so to be sure that it doesn't have additional errors.

1. In can see only several demos from my 3gb demos folder (demos player is in the game settings - broken)
2. When a player connects to server, I lag for a half of the second.
3. Premium scoreboard doesnt work on the Silent Night CTF map - its usually empty or freezes. (I noticed various bugs with scoreboard on the other maps too)
4. Chatting with friends is broken too, no polish letters anymore and no options on the right mouse button.

a fresh install of win 7 fixed my problem and everything runs perfect...
only thing thus far i dont like is the resolution change on the server browser.

So, last night i was playing fine and have had no issues with the standalone.

Today i go to start QL, after clicking the 'play' button the game loads up and goes into fullscreen, gets to around the 'it's over 9000' message but shuts itself down immediately.

I can't even get it to run now, what's going on~ what changed?

Launching the launcher (!) with --skipDownloads should help you since it will bypass the whole md5 checksum of your QL installation. I wish the launcher could avoid doing that for files where it's not needed.

Try setting com_maxfps to 30 (you can open the console while on the browser) and see if it helps.

It is the same problem for me, with com_idleSleep 1 or 0 and with 125 fps or 250 or other fps caps, the game feel so unstable now. Despite having 4Ghz quad core and GTX 680 with 2 Go of video memory...

If windows scaling is set to over 100% you cannot play QL in fullscreen because you only see the top left corner. This was not an issue with the old client afaik.

Some matches are not recorded and displayed in the player profile. I think that is a new bug by the client.

The client is not working properly right now, there was some unexpected downtime yesterday and I presume it's running some sort of auxiliary version right now. Some matches are missing, sometimes servers won't spawn, sometimes servers will report wrong skillrating etc

Things should be back to normal soon.

Matches are not reported by the client, btw. It's a server thing.

Hello there. When I close QuakeLive client (by hitting red 'X' button in the top right) the processes quakelive.exe and awesomioussomething.exe are still there - you can see them in Windows process list (I'm using win7 x64). So:
1) it still eats a bunch of RAM
2) when I try to start QL client again I get this error -'failed to open uix86.dll for writing' - probably because this file is already in possesion of old ql process. So I have to go to task manager and kill the process manually.

Any ideas why does it happen and how to fix the problem? Thanks.

This happens when you create an "/alias quit disconnect".

Please remove that alias from your config and the "Exit Game" link and red X button in the window title bar will work again.

Things i tried include: deleting qzconfig and repconfig, re-execing config, net_restart, turning standalone off and on again (multiple times).

The only thing that works is uninstalling standalone or reinstalling it and obviously im not gona do that everytime i cant join to a server. Alternatively deleting all the .pak files in quakelive/baseq3 folder and downloading them again when starting standalone usually fixes it, but im not gona download 400mb of files everytime i cant join to a server either. And the best part is that this problem is totally random. Sometimes i can join and sometimes i cant. I just came from a server and played 2 maps, left the server and tried to join another and i cant anymore. In fact i cant join any server now and I dont feel like deleting and downloading 400mb to play 10 mins again.....

Try reseting your settings.

You could also try finding which .pak file exactly is problematic and only delete this one every time... if there's only one. (try deleting half of them first then, depending on the success of the operation, delete a quarter of the same half or the other, etc.)

EDIT : Actually, I just noticed the files in your report follow an order and aerowalk.pk3 should be the last, here. Unless you have a custom pk3 like abc.pk3 with a name "smaller" in alphabetical order? If you do, try deleting it.

deleting the files works everytime but i have to leave standalone, dl the files and join server again every time i want to play. its stupid.....

also no abc.pak or custom files are in there, all default downloaded from quakelive..

Friendlist disappearing was apparently just a small error in code and the fix should be rolled soon, might even be a silent update.

Tried a few times over last few weeks, black screen both times, tried posted work around, still nothing, also tried nvidia 9800 gt and ATI HD 4850. They work with every other game I ever tried.

Just fixed the problem (by accident), uninstalled commodo after it was pissing me off and causing all sorts of gremlins.

Thought i would try quake live and it worked first time.

is quakelive.exe supposed to use 30% cpu while doing nothing? i have tried with com_idlesleep on or off(it should be forced in browser mode but worth i try) 30% for doing nothing seems wrong.

plus gamma is sticking when in browser mode, and windowed, which is annoying.

the new updated .exe should fix the CPU usage as well.

seems to have fixed it, yay, now we just need browser window mode without ingame gamma.
