What's the exact purpose of it when there's just bots playing?

Just for fun... Nostalgia.. Humans can connect and play also... I thought it was pretty cool anyways... The purpose of it is to show the status of the Server in real-time... The Map-Names are clickable, so you can download the current map directly from the status page... It would have been a pretty neat page 15 years ago, I guess?? Basically, I just thought it was cool...

Reminds me of them old days when I wrote me some perl code to regularly udp ping my fav servers and see what players were online, including player scores, on the console. Could see at a glance which way games were going without ever joining.

Imagine how bumfucked I was when finding out that this functionality (getinfo request or whatever it was) was gone in d3/q4. Asked ttimo about it, answer being of course "we're leaving that to the modders".

That was the first time I fully realized that id didn't give a flying fuck about downward compatibility of basic user apis.

Anyway, nice effort. Seems to include all the info one might ask for I guess. And sorry for plugging that story, but that one really annoyed the hell out of me back then.

I just like tinkering around with game websites, and stuff for fun... I am sure that nobody will actually ever visit my site lol... Just for nostalgia, and something to do... I have no idea how to make a "Mobile Friendly" website. It seems now-a-days, google and everyone else wants you to have a "mobile-friendly" site.

I was thinking that if I have a machine that can run a "Doom 4 / Doom 2016" Dedicated Server by the time it is released, I might try to setup something cool for that.... Is it supposed to have a strong Multiplayer Component?

I didn't look too closely into D4, but there will be multiplayer. The agreement seems to be that it's not polished enough for real esports but you never know.

D3 multiplayer was rather rudimentary for example, but it has still been played quite a bit for I'd say two years, which is when Q4 ultimately drew too many players away. But there's always a chance that D4 might draw in a whole new population of players.

So I'm pretty confident that it will be played, at least for some time. How long and by how many is still to be seen, because too many factors are involved there. Like how good the game will sell at all. And if they are going to base more games on the same engine, because if they do people will try and become acquainted with it.

Before thinking about web gimmicks I would still do some more research though. Like what the game already supports itself. If it's gonna have a cool server browser built in then you probably won't need to do that. Player stats on the other hand is something ppl are always interested in. But because of that there might be other people working on that too, you know.

Still, as said, I didn't look too closely into D4 yet. Don't even know if there are good forums around discussing the game already. That's probably the first thing you might want to look out for ...
