well tbh i think most of the people who are interested in hon will already following coverage on another site and you wont be able to compete with a hon community site on your own here. but then again everything has to start from somewhere, maybe you should just do a few news post and see
well starcraft is one number bigger than hon. so for someone with an interest in e-sports, sc2 news are relevant, while hon news arent. still i am not sure if it is worth the effort. but as long as there are people willing to do it, its good for esr. but the question was if doing hon coverage would be worth his time, not if it good for esr
I personally don't enjoy hon/dota that much, well in fact i can have some fun, but to me it's far less interesting than quake/sc in the long term, but that's only my opinion anyway. I personally wouldn't mind some HoN coverage aswell. At least it could show me the popularity of the game, which is always interesting to know :).
ye, I had kinda hoped getting retail would get rid of some of the whine.
I was so wrong.
Two days ago I got flamed from my own team for replying "gl hf" to "hf" from the other team. Apparantly, I am a noob, who should leave as soon as possible, for wishing the other team luck in a ranked game O.o
"Liam" was taken in league of legends and I didn't think I'd be playing it long so I went for "LiamHomoSex" instead, anyway 3 months later and I was still playing the game, I finally decided to quit after 2 games in a row where the best insult somebody could come up with was "fag"
This is a genuine quote:
LiamHomoSex: what makes you think i'm gay?????
Qlio: your name
He wasn't joking, or being ironic. I could tell from other things he said, he was just genuinely that dumb. Luckily I didn't end up playing with him on my team but these types of games are populated by people who are dumb because the only real skill in them is experience, there's no execution involved so it attracts dullards.
yes, I also find that the team with the most whiners usually losers. Especially when they are annoying to the point where I hope their hero dies every teamfight.
Not the best basis for playing as a team, I guess.
"Oh I could have stunned him and saved you? My bad, I am just playing like the noob you say I am."
and yes, that the insults are usually so uncreative makes it even worse.
some guy wrote like 4,5 lines on how noob I am, and the the climax of his outburst was "Your mom sucks."
the larger the community the more shitheads you will find. there are idiots everywhere, if you cant stand them you'll never be satisfied :D
i cant speak for LoL but HoN has a steep learning curve and on top of that one player can really ruin a team. in quake you just double the frags to make up for it but if you have a feeder that feeds a late-game hero it can be over at the 15 minute mark.. which makes people angry since stats and PSR are reglated by team not individually.. obviously K/D/XPM/GPM arent team regulated but win/loss is.
the best "community" i've ever played in was rtcw, but then again that was mostly older people playing... so my tip would be to play chess or something (oh wait LuLZ)
rtcw community was only great until ~2004 or so.
After that idiots started kickvoting people who played for objectives on publics...
Alse, I believe the friendly sounding voice chats did a small part for giving the game a nicer touch.
I guess the other problem with Hon is that the players get too much time to type when they are dead or walking back to base.
sc community seems to be nice overall, tho teamliquid is a tad too nice though. rif you read through some of the threads, you get the impression they enjoy creaming over each others butts a bit too much
Different class of idiots though. I don't mind someone being bad so long as they're not retarded. Like I was playing a game and I was 7/0, I ended up chasing 2 people, killed one then died and this fucking moron who was 0/11 said "what an idiot" to me. I didn't even mind that he was a feeding retard (at this point in the game I'm playing with people that have played at LEAST 200 games) but don't talk shit when you're abysmal.
These games are just designed for troglodytes, you will come to realise it at some point in the future... keep playing them, sure, but be careful about how much time you invest in them.
quake filters some retards out as they don't like how actual skill translates into scores here, so if it had more players it would probably be because the same\only a bit higher percentage got involved out of a bigger pool, I think.
