I Don't have a laptop but If there are USB to dvi you could do that. And I have an old crt I had at 145hz that used a vga. So you could use a crt for sure if you have an old one sitting around.

No I don't think so. Honestly, it's nearly impossible to find a straight answer about 120Hz on laptops but I think your best bet is a CRT.

My laptop supports 144hz through the dual link dvi output on the back, sager np8130.

As for the tc, no.
You can't do vga to dvi without an active converter, and none of them are dual link.

Only way is having a laptop with display port output I think.

VGA can't do 120hz? Doesn't almost every CRT out there have a VGA cord dangling from it?

it's a bandwidth issue, afaik. you wont be able to get 1920x1080 at 120hz over VGA, but 640x480? sure

I had this issue when I bought my laptop, I ended up buying a laptop with display port and it works flawlessly with my BenQ XL2420T, I don't really think you can achieve 1920*1080 120hz with any other port.. maybe a laptop with dual-link dvi, not sure :\. I think with this monitor you can have 120hz with VGA/HDMI at 1024x768 though. And yes, if you find a cheap CRT it's probably your best option.

Hmm.. I read about display port but it seems to be quite rare in laptops I guess.

Also checked the screen you have, and it has a HDMI port. Are you sure that it can't achieve 120hz @ 800x600? If someone could just test this I'd be forever grateful. To point out, my laptop native resolution is 1600x900 and I would not need 120hz in other activities but only QL.

A CRT would be class but getting one ain't an option for me anymore. :)

i wasn't able to have a stable 120hz at any res with hdmi on my laptop. i have heard a newer version of hdmi will support that much bandwidth, but it wouldn't be common on laptops anytime soon anyway. well, i got rid of the laptop and got a desktop as a (probably best) solution.

HDMI 1.4b supports 1080p@120hz
