Dream Theater is not all guitar masturbation :).
I like hard rock, like some death metal bands, heavy metal etc, but compared to most bands, dream theater plays MUSIC. And they do it very intelligently!
Constant switches in rythm, very technically impressive, sweet melodies and quite smart lyrics at that.
(Buy the metropolis part 2 album and you will see what I mean). Heck, in their newest album (octavarium) even the name and cd cover are pretty damn intelligent.
Sorry to come up in your face and start bragging about the band, :) but it just kills me when people write them off as just another guitar masturbation album.
