funny that youve had such a bad experience of freinds and drugs cos i know alot of people who have done shit loads of drugs and are totally level headed and sane.

The main thing I have against drugs is that I prefer to be in control, call me a control freak, I over think alot, which would probably be really bad on a drug which makes you think (the reason why I quit weed, i was fucking out when I smoked the last few times) I like to be in reality, and I like to think clearly, and I really really, like my short term memory.

the only time i have ever felt not in control is when drinking and that was part of the reason i dont drink anymore (well only in moderation, i mean i dont get pissed). drinking has got to be one of the crappest buzzes out there anyway. If i had a kid i would much prefer them smoking dope then drinking.

I like my 3 beers :) I'm a good judge of when to stop drinking thankfully, the only time I have gotten sick is when I haven't eaten before hand, and only one of them I truely felt awful.

i agree it's about the personality of the one who takes the drugs. some ppl even freak out when they smoke weed the first time - not funny, i was there. I smoked weed everytime i could a few years ago, then i stopped out of many reasons but when there's a party i still smoke to have some fun. But when i'm alone i never feel the need to take some pills or smoke weed, i have my all natural drugs and they're even free ;)

I see it like this: alcohol, pills (ecstasy etc) makes you "outside", extrovert, drugs (weed, hallucinogenes) make you "inside", introvert. So when you take drugs, you have to face yourself, your character, your issues etc. If you aren't balanced and well aware of yourself drugs fuck you up big time, especially if the high goes over an hour.

I was too stoned to get freaked :) Strangely, after smoking for about 4 years, thats when I started freaking (although not often) most of the time I just feel completely useless, and I hate that, I like to put on a show and dance etc etc. Maybe it's because my personality has changed since I was a young teenager, when I really felt alone and suffered from depression. Now I want to parrrty! which is why I don't drink too much either, cause it gets in the way, and I must be in control. *grin*

I have taken exctasy quite a few times (sometimes even 6+ pills by the end of the night) which can't be healthy. I probably wont ever take it again, but do I regret doing them in the first place? No. I had a lot of great times and met a lot of cool people while on them. It also changed me slightly even when not on them, made me more open n stuff. Maybe I needed some of those braincells destroyed?

All I'm saying, is it might not neccessarly turn out bad, as long as the person can control it and doesnt let the drugs take over them.

I cained the skunk at uni, realised i was smoking a lot when in the second semester my friend said "do you realise there's only been 3 days we haven't smoked any shit this term?" That was like 3 days from the end of a 90 day term... Only done a few pillz and found them very enjoyable. Wouldn't do over 3 a night though and rarely done them anyway.

I think LSD can affect a person a lot more differently than most drugs. Usually the doors of perception opened to them can last longer and maybe even stay permanently with them (sometimes in subtle forms). Tripping on mushrooms can be quite scary from some of the literature I've read (ie. powerful hallucinations/talking to trees and plants etc... seeing very scary things you only encounter in your nightmares etc.) I've not had the opportunity to try it yet though.

I'd say most drugs are ok as long as you do them in moderation and don't let yourself get addicted to them.

"Drugs are bad" is a bit too bold in my eyes.
They can have alot of uses, some bad some good.

For example, weed is a very well known medicine for alot of different diseases.

Some psychiatric hospitals have even done tests with MDMA on patients and got some very promising results in helping patients with diverse mental illnesses, which was later aborted when one patient reacted badly to this, which could be blamed on a lack of knowledge of the medical society on this subject, only very few people dare to burn their career on drug research. Maybe in the future when more is known about the human mind, and its alterations, it could be used for treatment.

I'd say "drug abuse is bad" would be a better statement.

The total cost of "war on drugs" in the US is now 40 billion dollars a year. and of course this is just waste of money. id say, dont use anything else than just weed and alcohol. And dont smoke daily. I know a few guys who smoke like 3 joints a day and they are just so fucking slow in everything, even talking... really annoying.

I dont think there is something wrong with alcohol daily. It has never done me any harm, except the usual hangovers, but they hardly last longer than one day :P

I smoke weed now and then but but only at parties and stuff, never ever on my own. But I have friends who do it every day and it seems to be ruining their lives. They have no go in them, do everything twice as slow and have no self confidence. I also do pills about twice a month at a club and have a good night of hard dancing. I'm quite a highly strug person and worry about things a lot so I find that a mad night out now and then helps me to de-stress!

Well of course I do! I know more about these things now! This was posted more than 2 years ago. I still don't smoke weed though, in fact I quit smoking cigarettes too. I hate pills; speed, heroin or coke i won't touch. (well I atleast won't buy coke, theres a fuckload of it around).

to be honest it depends on the person and how in conrtol of the body they are.

i use to go out every weekend and take pills sometimes get in to double figures and still be ok the next day but yet you read in the papers about people taking just 1 and die of it, i don't take them anymore because the hardcore [artying teen days are behind me.

i smoke skunk or weed just at the weekends and drink as well, my advice is anyone taking pills etc just make sure you know what your limit is because you don't want to get out of control on them as they can be addictive.

i mean the guy on the news the other day, over 20 years of taking pills he had taken 40,000 of them and now he doesn't even know his name and he was taking up to 21 a DAY - he is now in a care home and has no sense in him what so ever.

No seriously, it's a fallacy that psycadelics ruin your mind. The people that I knew that got completely fucked up it wasn't from them, it was from the large amount of pills, speed and coke they were doing. Another thing is that they were all about 15 or 16 at the time.

For some reason LSD has become this monster in the drug world for no apparent reason. The negativity published towards this drug has no real substance to the reality of it. Which is also strange because it's the most researched drug out there!

One of those friends amazingly cleaned up his act through all the shit he faced at home and is now one of the sanest men I know. In fact most of my friends at the moment do take drugs from time to time, all and every.

I've been reading up on drugs since I was about 16 when alot of my friends at the time started moving on to harder drugs (I smoked weed at the time). I was a Christian at the time too, so this move completely freaked me out. About 2 years later I quit smoking weed (due to various mental and emotional problems) and I had still not done anything until a month after I wrote this journal (march 2004) where I did mushrooms, and then I did lsd for the first time on the 1st of this year.

The point i'm trying to say out of this little story is that I have been researching a hell of a lot about drugs over the last 6 years, I can name the positive and negatives of every drug with detailed descriptions of what happens, and trust me, i really want to know what I'm going to put in my body before I do.

I've always been really interested in the human mind and after mushrooms I was pretty hooked on wanting to experiencing more of the same. I have heard some ridiculous rumours attached to LSD, some which I believed for years such as:

- It forms crystals on your spine and can cause you to become paralysed
- It rewires your brain so you think completely differently
- It makes you insane
- You can overdose (and go mad)
- You can be declared medically insane if you take LSD more than 6 times in France (strangely I've heard this one alot)
- It stays in your body for years which causes horrible uncontrolled flashbacks

Of course, none of this is true. LSD takes affect about 40 minutes after its ingested, lasts between 8 and 14 hours and leaves the body the next day. You may feel strange for a few days afterwards but you will be fine after at most a week. Flashbacks can occur (rarely) but it's due to your brain being able to see things in a different light rather than the chemical still being in your body. LSD is not addictive.

This is all facts from documented research which you can look up on in the over 1000 documents published when LSD was researched in the 1950's/1960's. Of course you don't have to do that and can just check out some current day websites.

When taking LSD it is highly recommended to do it in the correct state of mind and in a comfortable setting. Most negative experiences happen when these are ignored. Oh yes and if you have mental problems you should stay away from it. (and any other drug, including alcohol) This is why I tell people under the age of 20 not to do any psychoactive drugs, they have developing minds, are not in total control of themselves and do not know themselves well enough yet. Other than what I mentioned there are no other side effects. Oh wait, you may actually respect other human beings and have a profound understanding of the subjectivity of everything. (There is also the outside change that you start to believe that lizards are in control of the world... but it happens rarely... and you had it coming.)

Other random information, there have only been 2 to 5 (undecisive?) documented deaths atributed to LSD and only one of them was an overdose, where a man had 20 000%(approx. I can't really remember) more than he should have. Strangely, LSD is lethal to elephants. (I may have made this up.) OH YES! there is another side effect, but it only applies to pregnant mothers, it causes urinary contractions and therefore causes miscarriages.

Sorry about coming down on you so harshly, I just get terribly irritated when people are ignorant of the facts, I'm on a one man mission to stop the misinformation of the media.

from someone that has taken drugs for 28 years (from weed to you name it), I can tell you this.

weed=ok in moderation IMO. although I've seen some of my older, heavy user friends really lose short term memory after 20+ years. shrooms/lsd, etc. can cause flashbacks later in life if over used (like we did @ 18). I can verify that. Especially the Panaeolus Subbalteatus (closed capped ones in a pressure cooker)

I've bonged up daily for almost 28 years and still have a somewhat clear brain. If I could do it all over again, I probably would skip the drugs/alchohol. I feel alchohol is worse than weed, but weed is illegal in my country/state... just don't get caught dealing. I have stopped herb for the last 4 months due to a new overseas contract, I really notice a differnce in food consumption :)

All in all, life is too short, do what you want while you are here. Have fun, whatever that may be. No matter your age, you could get hit by a car/cancer/etc. tomorrow and die. Enjoy your life I say.

No seriously, halucinogens (LSD, Shrooms etc) are probably the most varying drugs there is. I know some people that do it maybe once or twice a year, and have given no side effects besides broadening their horizon. Other people might freak out after 1 hit and be locked up in a mental institution.

The same goes for ecstasy, except this shit is deadly imo. Extremely addictive and the mental side effects can be brutal. I did it once and never again cuz it was so good it freaked me out. I figured if I touched it again, eventually I'd get hooked..

All in all I think some drugs like weed, lsd can be mostly harmless depending on the person and frequency of use.

With psychoactives many things must be taken into consideration, such as the users state of mind, the place he is taking it and the amount. Everyone that I've spoken to that has had a negative trip either took too much, was in a crowded club, wern't prepared for what was about to happen etc.

I also have a special rule not to make any life changing decisions while tripping or a few days afterwards and always remember, while it may allow me to look at things in a different light, it still is just a chemical fucking with my head.

It happens, a lot of people in my circle of friends (not my close friends note) are stuffing their noses full of cash every weekend. People only tend to stop once they need to suck someone's cock, someone close OD's, they build up huge amounts of debt. There are only 3 options, start them on something else (like speed - crap drug), convert them to some cockass religion (christianity usually works, but it's not exactly an improvement is it?) and lastly, give them the LSD.

It works... serious. If it doesn't, do it again, cept give them too much put them in a really bad enviroment and give them some coke too. They will probably never touch drugs again. (and believe that Satan personally wants to kill them but thats quite irrelevant)

Without trying to state the obvious; i'm sure theres more important things in the world than stopping people enjoying themselves in their private time. That said, they do lead onto harder drugs, some of which, i don't think are a good idea to take. Whatever, i'm pretty sure i could walk into the field opposite my house and go and pick some for myself, if i knew i what to look for.

Most people start doing the drugs because it's illegal and seen as rebellious. I was going to write a bit more about the regulations that should be put in place around drugs, but I thought it would take too long. There are multiple factors to consider, and not the same regulations can be used for every drug. There is no right and wrong only a thick grey line :)

If we take cocaine for example. This is a drug very highly in use in first world countries and well to do richer peoples. Apart from the actual trafficing of the drug, crime and death related to the drug is relatively low, compared to other legal "drugs" (fast food, cigarettes, alcohol) However, this is probably due to the fact that most cocaine is done by people who are not connected to crime directly, and can afford luxuries such as private doctors (well known that coke fucks up your heart) if coke was cheaper, and therefore available to everyone, it probably wouldn't be as appealing to the rich, but more negativity would come out about it. (Due to the ease that one gets addicted) If it was legal it would just be a downright mess. (You have to meet a few veteran cokeheads to understand) This is a drug you can't even regulate, because the purification process of it is already out the bag. Conclusion, ban.

Personally I think coke is rather rubbish, maybe ok if you want to stay awake the whole night having a conversation, but even then... the point? And then you wonder wtf all your money went.

Compare this to Cannabis, although still unhealthy in the long run (same as drinking, smoking and fast food) it is very easily managable and can coincide with living your life, paying your taxes. It won't be improving your IQ, but lets be honest, neither does MTV, and no one made that illegal. (I pray every night) If legalised, it could be controlled, legalised and responsible use promoted. Is there any reasonable reason to ban it? Conclusion, legalise.

Last one for today, the Psychedelic mushroom. Well, this was legal in the uk until about 6 months ago, was there chaos in the streets, were people turning to crime to fund their addictions, were people jumping out of windows and more importantly were they constantly masturbating due to their inability to find a rape victim? Mushrooms was one of the most peaceful drugs, that was mostly ignored by everyone. There are no real cases of insanity or death but they have now just pushed it into the black market to help fund death, wars and human trafficking. GG government. Well what do you think?

Eish I wrote quite a bit here. Although you are correct in saying there are gateway drugs, you have to determine which drugs are the gateway ones. I think it's safe to say that all drug addicts have probably smoked pot. But of course, they have probably also smoked cigarettes... and also they probably drink alcohol. So do you judge the first drug that they do? The first illegal drug? Where do you draw the line?

Addiction is not a drug problem, it's a human problem, they need to sort that out before they start talking about crap like "gateway drugs"

Strangely all the drugs that I hate myself for and lament myself for starting are the ones that I knew practically nothing about ie. cigarettes(quit), weed(quit), drinking(won't quit but working on watching myself a bit more ;) All the rest I have known exactly what was happening and how to deal with it.

So what should be done? Well more drug awareness! But also, you can tell kids a billion times and they will still automatically think they know better. There is only one thing to combat this (and I thought about this pretty hard) teach them to fucking think

When you say "all your drugs suck" are you refering to me? or to someone else? If you are refering to me (or to someone else) do you mean all drugs that I (or the mysterious someone) own? or are you just speaking about the drugs that I (or someone) prefer to use? In this case does that mean that all drugs that I(he/she) dislike do not suck? Unless you made a mistake and would like to have rather said "all drugs suck" which is understandable.

Most drugs don't change who you are though, they would only change your own perception about yourself.

I can see your points of the negatives of drug abuse, and it is an individual opinion.

About the law though, for example when it comes to weed. I think in nearly all countries they are very lax on this drug and it would only be under very serious circumstances that someone would go to prison for it. For any other drug I doubt that anyone would carry around enough drugs to warrent being called a dealer, unless they were in fact a dealer. This would result in fines, community service, counselling etc. Prime examples of this would be the celebrities that get thrown all over the press for drug use. So the risk of being put in prison are not exactly high. Besides, the only time you will ever be caught would be if you're completely stupid about it. The police are not looking for you, they are looking for drug bosses.

Personally, I don't do cocaine, speed, pills or weed, although my views on drug use is that the user decides and is fine as long as it does not effect anyone else or his own safety (to a degree). However the way I see it is that some of these drugs should not be illegal, and therefore the law is erronous and should be changed. If I get caught and tried for having one of these I'll do a fuck you and take them to High Court.
