duke is great. shrink ray, freeze ray and bouncing the shots of the mirrors, shrinking yourself and going through the mouse holes, the security cams, strippers. it's really fun. they were really creative when making it back then and even now days there aren't many fps games that are as creative as duke3d.

you can see that they enjoyed making duke, there was no stress on them, no heavy expectations
they just did what they liked to do
the games i played the last years (and tbh i just cant name an exception, last fps game that really got me into it was unreal 1) seem like it was hard work for the programmers, like they followed a system or something
the passion from it is gone, there is too much competition, they are forced to create something that noone can complain about (at least they think so) or have technical superiority as a first priority, and that's what kills the fun in games
if they released something as controversial as duke in these days, no matter how many people would actually like it, game critics would put it apart as crap or at least unserious, the reputation of the software company would be ruined, so they wont make it happen
im just hoping for someone to have the guts to do it nevertheless, and i think the time is coming, since the "copy an old game and just make the gfx a little better" has become dead boring by now, and i think it's time for someone to regain the interest in people and steal the audience away
imo that's only a question of time

Is here anyone have played multyplay of duke3d seriosly?
About the time when 1997 I was addicted duke3d, at that time I had used modem to play with someone. Due to this, my house's phone was always busy. :)
I still remember sort of the gethering item path and the steroid jump, other tricks.
I feel nostelgia.

yeah, duke was fun! i remember trying to complete the levels as fast as possible (the very first level in something like 10sec or such)

it was sort of tricking ala qdq, although back then i had no idea of that concept :>

i like JonoF's port better, there's even a nice high resolution pack for this port which has some 3D models too :D
