I fell for the hype for both doom3 and quake 4 and while they weren't horribly bad, they didn't meet my expectations. I think ET:QW will finally meet them though. I guess I'm falling for the hype again.

since all the hype of et:qw i tried et ( i didnt realise it was free previously!!!) I love it, i think its great and hopefully this kind of gameplay on a newer engine will still be good.

note: Although quake2/3 based on a new engine didnt turn out good did it :P

id are more involved in this and splash damage are competent so I cant see what will go wrong (touch wood)

I agree, Kevin Cloud is fully involved in this game and I've always liked the games that he directed. Quake 2, Wolf: ET and now this. Willits I think worked on Q4 and while I love his mapping ability, I can't help but wonder if he just let Raven handle all the MP stuff.

Q4's MP was always an after thought. At one stage they even announced that there would be no MP....

If they fix the horrible D3 engine's netcode this game will be major $. And since its a 100% MP game i think they will since there is no SP sh!t to intergrade into the game.

I am usually not into battlefield, vehicle using, team games. But so far this looks good and I might give it a try.

So what its a natural addition... Its not like Battlefield invented vehicules...

Yeah I know, I think ripoff is a bit heavy worded but imo RTCW is more close combat on foot centric, while ETQW and BF seem more like vehicle combat with some infantry in between.

QW is mostly on foot. You cannot achive objectives while being in a vehicule. You cannot just sit on the objective with a tank and kill everything that moves like in bf2. You cannot build a bridge while being in a tank, you cannot hack something while being in an helo etc...
But yeah the vehicules will be important like in BF2 in pub games. I hope there will also be a Infantry only possibility like in some bf2 leagues.

the vehicles are also much more vulnerable to infantry than on bf2. on bf2 you can't damage a tank unless you have another tank or a anti-tank kit, and it still takes forever. on qw, since vehicles have no 'anti-ballistic armor' per se, you can do damage to them even with a pistol. it makes vehicle usage much more strategic (ie, transport or coordinated attack) instead of working as some kind of indefinite advantage. it'll be similar to how vehicles work on ut2k4 it seems.

You can disable the vehicules with the EMP nade. You can also blow out tires on wheeled vehicules like the APC.

which featured basically everything that the BF series is known for.

What i ment is that having vehicules in videogames is a natural evolution. They may have been to first to do it but it doesnt mean they created and copyrighted the use of vehicules in games. Thats like some ppl saying a game is a cs ripoff simply because it deals with terrorist based storyline... CS didnt create terrorism.

I'm mixed abot this one.

While all the item placement looks like a nice addiction to the original ET. It looks like they removed my favorite part, which was the fast paced groud combat. Without that I won't play this title.

I hope its more like rtcw than bf2 tbh - that game may be dead now but the 1st 3 seasons of CAL plus qcon2k2 were some of the best games Ive ever seen.

Like all games though, no matter how good it is...if a lot of ppl dont play it will flop. CS is a piece of shit but you will always find a scrim in that game.

ET wasn't bad at first. Im going to buy it thinking it wont be all that good and hopefully it will prove me wrong. Im ready to start playing in a big community again where you dont have to wait 2 hours to setup a scrim.

I really hope we stick to one mod though so we dont spread ourselves thin within a month

I think this community will be huge, it will have a large portion of the RtCW and Wolf:ET communities and also a lot of the BF2 community will move over cause of how shitty BF2142 looks. I wouldn't be surprised if 30,000 people played it on gamespy stats.

I really enjoy playing games that are strongly based on teamplay. Have been/am playing the famous team fortress mod, so yeah don't want to miss such a great game either (don't get me wrong - don't want to show that it's like tf, heh no, it has nothing familiar to tf)! Thou there are other more important games coming out in my opinion too, but heck, I can find time for et:qw too. At least I'd really hope to, coz seeing the graphics, watching the movies about current game and reading all kind of news, reports, reviews etc. about it, makes me want to play it. Coz it will be teamplay, dunno what about you guys, but for me this word means all, if the game doesn't have it I just won't play it. Oh geesh, only talking about me, let's comment the news now: At first place I wanna say these were my very first game (video)tutorials I have ever watched, so they were very interesting for me. Can't wait to see what will be the "standard" for the teams : 8x8, 12x12, maybe 14x14! Heh, I really don't know.. seeing the size of the map and the amount of vehicles, myeh. This certainly will be interesting. Hope you'll enjoy it too.

Without decaying stamina chances are there will be full strafejump capabilities... too bad the game looks 100% vehicle/turret based and the megatexture techdemo terrain maps probaby wont allow for tight close combat gameplay at all.

It looks quite fun but not in the awesome ET way :(
My hopes are high for RTCW2.

If you saw the inside ET:QW video, it shows on this map that the last objective is all inside a building. I think Kevin Cloud mentioned that some maps will be urban or close quarters. Wils is probably one of the best mappers around, so I'm sure he can create some great maps that mixes it up a bit.

you're probably right, in the aspect that they're designing maps for 24-32 people.

but as long as the game works, nothing is stopping people from creating 'smaller' maps with no vehicles so people can play their indoor corridor shooting games. i guess that someone will probably create such a mod - you'll just need to change a tiny bit of the game mechanics, then make some maps. which is not easy nor fast, but still possible as long as that's what people want.

SD have tested the game in their offices as low as 4v4. 6v6 is a VERY viable competition setting. Go ask them yourself, #splashdamage on QuakeNet

Oh 4v4? They think so? But don't the maps look "too big" for that.. Ok, ok maybe this isnt so much in maps, lets leave them alone, they will be great I'm sure, but... What about the vehicles? If you say 4v4 won't it be not enough. I mean If you have 2 already flying, 1 has to drive or escort some other vehicle, so this makes only 1 person on foot? This look really wierd (at least for me). As we can see in these videoses they are not playing 4v4 or maybe even 6v6. I think that the standard could be something bigger lets say 8v8? This would have people for everything - If someone needs help, there you go mate can help you, he doesn't need to jump out of the flying heli and leave the mission objective, ... Anyway future will show ... but i also hope this wont be something like A&A or OFP style 32x32.

now, et:qw 4v4? are you sure this is even close to what the game means to represent, given the fact that they even have more than 4 classes for each team?

it might be 'competitive' or whatever you call it, it might be fun, but it's not the original et:qw gameplay anymore. it's something else. and i'm sure large maps designed for teams with 12-16 people would feel pretty wack for 4 people, now matter how "viable" it is.

I think this game will be a lot of fun for public games just like Battlefield 2, but its not a kind of game I want to play in wars :)
