People do not use accel in CPM because movement gets easily fucked up with it. I mean, I'm sure it's possible to have a good movement with mouseaccel, but it's way harder.

I use sens 4.5 in VQ3 and 5.6 in CPM (ime 3.0, default windows settings), both without accel. I find tracking to be a little easier with it on, that's why I played ET with it, but then I went back to no accel and it just felt better once I got used to it.

problem with no accel is, if you need to do a 180 very quickly i run out of mousepad :)

i dunno what the sensi's are in anything other than q3 i just try and get roughly the same feel through the slider gui (i.e. fastish 180 without losing the control of a solid aim through lower sensi)

The CPL's Windows XP mouse acceleration fix. Without it Windows accel isn't completely disabled.

no, the reason the CPL adopted the fix was that u could change the hz without rebooting the PC. check the CPL forum thread on the subject.

You are talking about the USB rate (Hz) changer that got rejected because of potential hardware damage.

The fix in the link removes Windows acceleration completely and has nothing to do with Hertzs.

The difference isn't all that huge, but it really does help, it gives you a much more stable feeling, I strongly suggest you use it tbh

I jused to have high accel (0.3) with fairly low sens and it's all a matter of taste and getting used to it. Though I recently lowered it to 0.05 or smth and it's imo way nicer without it. But still, just a matter of taste.

It's certainly an aquired taste, but low sens and high accel has won more than a few Q3 titles thanks to the play of fatal1ty, unkind, Lexer and Cooller.

right but what about the top TDM players as an example (<random swede>)? or ZeRo4, czm and socrates? I guess it just comes down to perfecting what you do, it hardly matters what your setup is like. However I do think there's a difference in aim consistency depending on what setup you use. I can only think of one scary good railer using accel, and that would be Zamuz with his very own style anyway. iirc it was ZeRo4 who once lost a few words about how your muscles have some kind of a memory for moves, and it would be way easier/less time,practise consuming to play with a stable sensitivity than some kind of 'randomness' or inconsistency with accel. once I started to play less and less I noticed that I'm far more consistent with a mid/high sens and no accel as the accel part is quite good when you can handle it perfectly well, but if you're not in shape enough it tends to get rather random.

It all comes down to what you want to do, nobody can be perfect in every aspect of the game with no weaknesses. So find what is comfortable for you and what aids the areas of the game you want to concentrate on.

I had low sens and low acceleration up to about 2 years ago and although I had a decent flick rail back then my other weapons sucked. Now i use med sens and no accel and although my rail might not be as good, I think I'm more of a rounded aimer now.

went from low sens mid accel to different sens different accel (switched os + comp) and then low sens no accel, and slowly raised sens to something average, about 14cm/360° I think. feels alot more stable and is also easier to rebuild in other games or on other setups/comps. what I think improved my accuracy a little bit aswell was syncing my desktop sens with my ingame sens so I only have one sensitivity at all times in all games and applications

dnno where I found it, but I downloaded some logitech mousewaretool once on a LAN because my mouse was acting up(sidebuttons didn't respond) and it had an option to turn accel of while running certain programs, dnno where it's located on my harddrive now though, but I can tell you 100% sure that I have no accel what so ever in cod2 cause that would make the game unplayable for me(and many others)

The mouse accel that's within windows is very minor, but well worth removing.

Run the fix! At least to be on the safe side, running it won't do any harm that's for sure. There's always the removemousefix.reg file so you're taking no risk. :)

went through my files once more, and I installed some CPLfix a few years ago aswell it seems, ah well, I know that the logitech thing helped me get rid of some laglike issue in COD2, so all is good ;p

Mousefix is very useful - in our gaming clubs we are prohibited to install any drivers.
But it's easy to activate mousefix from the flashdrive with own cfgs =)

I've used accel for the last few years and my flick shot seems just as good as it ever was without accel. As an aside flick shooting was even better in Windows 2000 since the accel on that OS had a threshold for the accel so once you'd reached a certain speed it stayed constant, that made flick shooting especially good when you had the right sensitivity value. Sadly we all know how microsoft mess things up with each successive OS :P

As far as practical examples of flick shots go Unkind and Cooller's flick air rockets don't seem too shabby to me.

As an aside flick shooting was even better in Windows 2000 since the accel on that OS had a threshold for the accel

If you can get used to the accel and use it well, then by all means go for it. But it's pretty much user preference. Generally you have a more consistent aim if you don't use accel. I personally don't really like it. My settings are as follows:

Logitech G3 @ 1000dpi (5th notch in windows, no accel)
Q3 sens 3.6 with .022 pitch and yaw in_mouse 1 and no accel

I rarely play Q3 tbh but in all games (CS, qw) I like to use low enough sens that I can aim really well consistently and then throw in enough accel that I can still move well and do 180s with a quick hand motion.

I wouldn't say it's pure conjecture. I mean sure, one can get really used to having accel and do pretty well with it, but in my experience flick shots and sometimes movement can bit a bit off or random with accel.

See when you phrase it like that nobody can take issue with your statement, as I'm sure you're aware not everyone is exactly like you so your experience is pretty subjective. Personally I've used no accel and accel for multiple years at a time each and I know which I prefer and which I play better with.

It seems puzzling to me as to why people in general who haven't used accel for an extended period of time, or have and didn't like it, feel the need to try and put others off trying it. Worst of all their methods are usually spurious arguments like "it's less consistent" or "you can never be sure of your aim".

On a side note one thing people seem to be misunderstanding about all forms of sensitivity choice is that there is no perfect sensitivity setting for all ranges and situations. Whatever gain you find in one setting it will have downsides in other areas. In the case of accel one of the biggest pluses in my opinion would be being able to aim very accurately at long distances with a low sensitivity but still aim well at short range too, something a low sensitivity on its own won't allow you to do.

Sensitivity is just like any other setting in quake. It's user preference. I'm not saying people shouldn't use accel or should stear clear of it. Non accel has it's issues too like if you use a higher sens sometimes if can be difficult to retain a certain amount of precision, or a lower sens makes it difficult to retain reaction times sometimes.

For me 14cm/360 is a happy medium where I still have plenty of reactionary speed, yet I can maintain a certain degree of precision (provided I'm not playing like a damn retard) and my flick shots (to me) feel more consistent.

i have used accel for 4 years when i started playing q3, i varied a lot the sens/accel values during this time and last time i was playing actively my sens was 4 and accel 0.4 and my reflex rail where awesome without lacking performance on rockets or short range shots as thorin said, in january of this year i started playing cod2 a lot and was forced to lower values (dunno why my rifle was failing) to sens 2.7 and accel 0.2 and now i play more cod2 than quake and my reflex rifle and 180 turns are perfect, my aim is at its best; like 2 weeks ago i reinstalled q3 and played with a friend to relive old times, i used same values as in cod2 (for who doesnt knows cod2 and q3 are same engine) and lol i was hiting the most sick rails ever and 180 where again very good (so i guess my wrist adapted to these new values in both games) so my advice is that if u can handle accel well go for it, THE ONLY downside i find for accel is that if for example i want to play ut2007 when it releases i dunno what im gonna do to make it feel exactly as q3/cod2 as they are different engines and ut have crappiest accel ever =\

I've seen people with just about every possible setup aim well. Toxic with low sens, gitzzz with SUPER low sens, czm with high sens, z4muz with some mouse accel (the last time I saw his config anyways). In the end I think its just about whatever settings that makes you aim and move well. Some people tend to aim better when they change their sensitivity from time to time (my guess is that it somehow helps them to focus).
The reason I use a low sensitivity with some accel (enough accel to be able to do those reflex 180 shots with decent accuracy, but still low enough sensitivity to do pixelshots).
Accelecation isnt for everyone, but in my book it allows you to get the best of both worlds.

Personally I play with alot of accel (0.7) along with cooller's pitch and yaw settings. But like czm said, aim is all in the head, I get the same accuracies using accel and not using. Just use something that you're comfortable with and practice ALOT with it. The only thing that can hurt your aim is switching alot because you will never get used to anything.

Well, I do know though that some people change their sens a lil bit now and then because that way you focus a little bit more. It can be useful that way I suppose, but in the long run you would should probably get used to a constant sensitivity though I would suppose.
