There's not that much to argue or flame about since Q3 is the better game. Period.

What other people think is kinda irrelevant to me since it won't change my view of the game (Q4 that is).

the only way to argue Quake3 vs Quake 4 is to take Quake3 when it was 1 year old and compare it to quake 4 now..... its just silly to compare quake4 to a game that has been patched 30 times more......nothing wrong with enjoying both games and appreciating them for what they are and can become.

That's the thing. Isn't it a bit silly to say that Q4 is the better game since Q3 today is just about "perfected" considering the age of the game and all the updates it has gone through to get where it is nowadays?

they're both great games, and of course, quake4 with its 4 patches or so is not as good as quake3 with its 30 patches. Thats the retardedness of this all, no one should be comparing the 2 at all...unless u compare them as they were at the same age...

Weak argument. Q3 was realeased ca 7 years ago. Why start from scratch every single release?

its not about starting from scratch, its about developing the gaming industry...improving the games we play, theres no way you can improve without trying new things which almost always leads to a few bugs etc. Which patches fix. Quake3 was an improvement of quake2, which only really became better after patches! Quake 4 has the POTENTIAL to do the same......

You know I was mostly hinting at q4 not being competition ready out of the box. It's like all those years of OSP and CPMA went to waste.

i get your point, that developers should know exactly what to include and release the game as a full package. This being the ideal scenario, unfortunately for all of us that is not the case when a game changes engine and has new features etc. We have to start from the bottom with regards to competition mods to rework them into the new game. I think its clear that Q4MAX are using OSP etc has a guideline to updating and improving their mod for quake4.

quake4 is now a little over 1 year old ( according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quake_4 ) so there, we got a reference point for making comparisons now.

tbh. quake4 1.0 scared all q3 fanboys in hell and now they think q4 suckzzz lol. but 1.3 fixed pretty much the bugs and shittyness there was in 1.0 and when next patch comes its gonna be way much better. i hope =D

if you want to get into what q3 and q4 are and which is better as comparing them when they first came out...(since the q4 demo didnt come out till after the first patch we'll have to use the release of q4 and the q3 demo.)

1 - do a fresh install of quake 4... no patches. (those that bought the game before the first patch anyway.)
2 - go download the quake 3 demo and install that.
3 - play them both for an hour.
4 - realise quake 3 is better--even in demo form-- now you know the truth for yourself.

I still play the q3 demo from time to time, but I uninstalled quake 4 about...uh...a few months ago...then i reinstalled it after not having played q3 in a while to see what I felt about it, and it still sucked. I uninstalled it again and for the last time..the discs have been in the box sitting on a shelf gathering dust since then.

look what happened when all the leagues started using q4...pros "quit". some that kept playing said they didnt like it and perfered q3, they only played it for the money. look what happened when the cpl announced they were using q3...they're comming back, and I couldnt be happier.

fyi id needs to realise that having a map making contest for a community map pak isnt going to save this game (q4). just let it go..release ET: QW and get started on Quake 5...this time dont listen to the people that lied to you about q3 being a failure or that "reality physics" is where its at...(nobody that plays quake cares about ragdoll physics or realistic blood...all we want is a good game) we want an arcade shooter that we can watch tournys of online, do tricks in, make movies of, and have the feeling of **OOOOOOH SHIT!! DID YOU JUST SEE THAT?!?** while watching pros play :-) (see the new demos of czm to know what im talking about ,if you dont already know :-D )

oh and do NOT let anyone else make the game(Q5)...do it in-house and do NOT leave Carmack out of it...PLEASE!

I was a defender of q4 for a long time, but it took me 2 days back on q3 to realize that q3 is a better game. To each his own i guess. I just wish the DM community gathered around one of them :\

that is the history of quake...it forms a fanboy base... a new quake comes out... they hate it and then the newer quake players wonder why aren't these old dudes playing the new game.

This has been going on since at least 1997 or so with q2's release. If there is one thing that q4 players should feel hope in though its that every quake so far has had a very solid fanbase. With QW being the most fanatic one perhaps. Something that is a little more worrying though is that Q4 hasnt really picked up any NEW players. Something which all the other quakes had was a bunch of new players that wasnt really fans of the Id-genre before they played that "new" quake. The q4 community seems to almost consist of former q3 players entirely.

Want a better expirience on ESR beeing a q3 player? Do the following. "IGNORE" Ignore list:
diabz (remove), NaAani (remove), reeal (remove), Vaden (remove), Ver1tas (remove), wakka (remove) the site gets that much better really.
