Yeah, i play on xs4all every now and then, do you nick miya there? Seems like there are loads of players on there who don't "interact" with the regular community (that is, the one on www.quakeworld.nu - nevermind the site design, it's just a temp site while waiting for a new and fresh one! :D) :)

I think ezQuake and all the other clients there are squeeze out the max from the Quake engine. I think the idea about remaking QW on a completely new engine has popped up at some time but i think that the work would be huge to get it in such a state like it is today. It would probably split the community aswell (i guess some new players would tag along though).

If people can play CS with its shitty graphics, then QW should be enough aswell! :)

No, I nicked as unnamed player. Surely gonna hop on the server more often, cause although I missed the Quake thing till a year ago, I'm determined to relive the 90's ;). There's just something pure (and probably nostalgic too) about Quake 1/QW. I need to learn all the subtelties though, caus emovement is different and feels a bit weird and all the weapons look alike ;D.

As Lisk said, the main QW flaw is that the models nowadays are so low polycount. Question is: I know there are a couple of weapon models and item models out (btw, is there any way to put the weapon not in the midle, but on the right like most nowaday's FPS?) but I've never seen a more detailed player model (btw2, someone ported the Ranger model from Q3 to QW? it should look awesome on it). Also, animations are extremly weak: Specially, when you are shotting, legs models are static and you literally slip through the floor. So: Why, on 10 years, afaik noone did a better model with decent animations, its that engine limited?

Why is that such big "flaw"? Seriously, who the fuck cares about the enemy model you're about to gib into molecules in the next couple of seconds? The models could be all static for all that I care.

I play myself Q3 with picmip 5, everything turned down etc. But for spectator purposes (if you want to get on QW new people, high gfx always work), also for fragmovies or whatever.

I don't really call it a 'flaw', it just has low polycounts.
Some things are irrelevant, some would really look better with higher polies.

fix stairs + maps and i'll play

The stairs are fine and the maps are great so start playing.

I don't play q3, I play cpm.

watched some demos of QW today, just didnt do it for me, CPM and warsow demos are more satisfying to me, but i do definatly see the skill involved

and its great that its still alive and kicking today, altho, i cant understand wtf is up with playing those same old maps...

The maps are perfect and I get completly why they play still the same maps, specially DM4. Also, don't nerf the weapons, they are perfect the way they always been. They are the most powerful weapons on the Quake saga, which is what gives QW his own personality. They just doesn't get old, like Q3.

one of the best things about QW is the cvars for wall, floor & liquid colors

so you don't have to use some correspondent of "picmip" which looks inconsistent and degenerated from the map textures.

thus QW with basic graphics > Q3 with picmip

Well, ill prefer r_vertexlighting 1, but since QW doesn't support that I don't know why, I use decent graphics on it. I don't like to see "picmiped 5" textures with the blurry shadows all over.
