Dont be fooled by some tech specs you seen thrown about. It's hard to really compare which one is faster due to the very different architectures, but I would say the 360 is winning so far in practice, regardless of how impressive the ps3 looks on paper.

The 360 has double the ram and better gfx card, so in practice this has resulted in better looking games (there are sites that compare graphics from games that are out on both platforms, and 360 is winning by far). The CPU's on the 360 have proven to be more than enough.

And in all other departments xbox has the lead by far, with much better online services etc.

For now I really see no reason at all to get a ps3. Not really any decent games for it, let alone good ones. Its technology so far seems to be worse than the 360 in practice, which has been out over a year.

I was led to believe they are similar.. personally i see no reason to rush out and buy a PS3 on launch day.
I've had an xbox 360 for a long time now and ever since i got my PC and started playing PC games i've never really touched a console, but my god the 360 is amazing. The games are awesome to play, graphics are very nice and the xbox live service is setup properly, not to mention IP TV coming with on demand videos through live, and HD DVD drive, it really is perfect..

This being said, im not someone who dislikes the playstation, i am a loyal sony person, I had a Ps1, ps2 and PSP, unfortunately however as the PS3 launches there are _NO_ real launch titles, sure resistance fall of man looks good, but compare it to Gears of war.. Blu-ray is still in its infancy and the hardware costs more in Europe then it does in USA, because Sony(to cut costs) removed hardware emulations(so you could play old ps1/2 games). Insted they replaced this chip with software emulation, which doesn't play that many games atall, and charged us more for the privilege.

$150 more? here in Denmark I’ve seen the Xbox 360 premium pack going for $400, the PS3 is set to be released at an astonishing price of $750-800, WITHOUT a game. In comparison to the UK it's £280(i believe? or less) for a 360, and £425 for a PS3, with no games.

If you want a fully functional games console out of the box that is setup to enjoy all the very best possible on a console currently, get your hands on an Xbox 360. As far as the PS3 is concerned, personally i'd wait, until the launch of games worthy of buying the console for and for a possible price drop due to fierce competition.

20gig xbox360 + HDDVD drive is more expensive than the PS3, with its 60gig HDD. not by much, but it is.

A work colleage of mine who works here at SteelSeries informed me today that he's had a PS3 for a few days now as he's writing a review for a Danish magazine, a few points he bought up:

- The online service is like a website, doesnt have the look and feel of the established Xbox live software. He compared the online services as similar to the Dreamcast, where its just a glorified webbased system as opposed to a dedicated program,
- The launch games are quite poor, although he said Moto storm is fun, but it had limited appeal after a while.

He mentioned that internally his magazine were taking the piss out of the PS3 for actually being so poor out of the box and fully expected the PS3 to get a quite poor review.

Despite this he did insist that the PS3 is going to be a great machine over time, there are some kick ass games that'll be coming out on it, but right now? keep hold of your $1000 :P

I read somewhere that "Gears Of War" is coming for PC and seriously it will be the laughing stock of FPS players. And including 4v4 GoW on WCG (along with Carom3D) is the joke of the year.

So if you want to have fun playing the consoles and play casually, Wii is the better choice as it's much cheaper and also more fun. (Even if you just stick to Wii Sports and Rayman Raving Rabbids).

"GTR2" and "RACE" fully support G25. They are probably the best car simulators out there. (Really pro)

But if you like racing in streets with beautiful graphics, I recommend Test Drive Unlimited. It is not THAT realistic like GTR, but it is really good, much better than NFS.

The pro's and cons between both machines are small IMO and the difference between the two machines will be down to how much the software developers squeeze out of them.

It's not like the old days of say the snes and megadrive where one can just do something the other just can't pull off. Example Mode 7.

Not so small

PS3 cons:
- Shitty controller
- Dirty glossy finish
- Online not proven yet (but free)

X360 cons:
- no built in wi-fi
- no battery and charger for the controllers in the box
- no support for mouse and keyboard
- Live Gold costs money (only 60€/year though)
- no HDMI (although this is going to change with the Elite)
- no HDDVD (which may lead to multidvd games and shit like that)


I think the best option right now is to wait a pair of months for the 360 Elite and load it with the wi-fi adapter and the charger. It costs the same as the PS3, but with the lack of exclusives, the controller alone makes it better imho.

I think the Playstation Dual Shock controller is the best controller in general. Funny how it's been in use for about 10 years now (Dual shock, not the very first PlayStation controller)

Xbox 360's controller - d-pad is awful and the start, select and dashboard button are too close together ;(

xbox360's is a terrible version of the very lovely Dreamcast controller. Gamecube controll is the best though.

PS3's still the best option I tell you why! it has more features, and it has more FREE features, I mean Free Online Network. unlike Microsoft they wont rip your pockets off to let you go for some online competitions, also rumor has it there are some dedicated free of charge servers for some games! not to mention the soon to come HOME Network and it's features. and controller is far better than 360 controller under one special reason! 360 controller lacks digital sensitivity! it was in PS2, and when it passed the torch to PS3 he passed that feature along! as far as PS3 goes I hope I get one by the end of this year. and as far as Rumble thing goes I hate rumbles for two reason, 1st, they're too weak. 2nd, they're battery killers, so I actually appreciate they're no longer inside PS3 controller, it helps the weight of the controller too.

I couldn't care less about home and I don't really care if Live costs me 60 bucks when the service is ok (not great, but ok).

The sixaxis is rubbish. It is completely unergonomic and feels cheap, it has no vibration (even Sony has acknowledged this is a big fault and they have even reached an agreement to include it in future products). The pressure sensitive buttons aren't really needed when you have the triggers for driving games and such.

A few months ago I would have said "wait for the PS3" because I don't think the 360 catalogue is impressive at all, but right now, with the 360 Elite coming soon, and the list of future games favouring it, I see both of them pretty equal, so it's more a matter of your likes: I want a console for games and I want a comfortable controller, others may prefer some added things, like the Bluray player or the Home.

This is very narrow minded and very unacademic of me, but the xbox 360 is supported by a greater company and contains many more game titles, the 360 will be better still then the PS3, the ps3 will simply mimic the graphics of the 360 with maybe slightly better textures in some areas, the difference is minute.

You don't chip the 360, you just flash the dvd-rom. Much less effort needed and you can flash it back to the orgininal firmware if something goes wrong (eg. microsoft updates live so that you can't play with the modded firmware).

I own a 360 myself, and I'm very pleased with it so far. The new game Crackdown which was released recently is a blast when you just wanna run around causing mayhem for a while. The story ain't too compelling though, but that doesn't mather as you have fun all the way from the first guy you run over with your supercar to the last guy you jump kick in his face from a building.

i dont think my modded xbox has a chip, its something to do with taking some reg code off the dvd drive, onto a pc, editing it, and then putting it back.

It's a software firmware update for specific drives. It's not a modchip for 360. Which means you can still access Live without any penalty.

ps3 doesn't really have a great deal of exclusive titles backing it now. Really the only AAA games in the pipeline that the 360 hasnt already stolen is GT5[which will never be stolen], ff13, tekken6[possible] and mgs4[speculations abound, it might already be in development for the 360]...

as a 360 owner so far there's only one exclusive game that everybody love and tbh I hate and that is Gears of War, it's just a good looking game! GRAW and GRAW2 along with R6Vegas are it's best titles so far, and all of them are multiplatformers! even take Oblivion for example, it's a multiplatform game too. I don't deny the facts there are some good games soon to come, but at the time I own my 360, I'm fraking borrrrrred! not mention the monthly charges for Gold account which I don't understand the reason why we should pay micro$oft for HOSTING our own games??!?!?!?!

MGS4 and FF13 are NOT exclusive. They are still in talks. Sony has stated that 'they don't care about exclusives' this time around. They are arrogant as shit, and its biting them in the ass. This is why Devil May Cry 4 came to x360.

Yeah, MGS4 is fully a possibility, and FFXIII's white engine is known to crossplatform. What I was saying is if they were exclusive to ps3 then it'd be a good buy. If they suddenly appear on the 360 like gta4, vf5, dmc4 etc then the ps3 is dead in the water.

Also, any NEW ps3s WILL have backwards compatability, but in the form of software emulation rather than using the EE chip. The latest BC update lets you play around 75% of ps2 titles apparently...

yes the ps3 is a bit more powerfull but alot of people have said that the xbox can still produce the same visuals etc as ps3 due to how you code on both machines, with the ps3 being harder to code for. theres some videos up on gametrailer.com comparing the 2 consoles with the same games on the same scenes for instance cod3 and you cant tell the dif between them. although on some other sites that compare them they say the xbox versions actually look slightly better.

both games will have their exclusive titles as well the ones coming out for both. xbox360 has forza 2, halo 3, halo wars, mass effect, colin mccrae offroad and fable 2 to name a few exclusives, whilst there will be virtua fighter 5 coming to 360 as well as gta4 and word on mgs4 perhaps coming to the console to. not to mention all the great games already availbale - gears of war, virtua tennis 3, ghost recon 2 and cod3. Theeennn theres also the brilliant xbox live arcade with titles like worms, doom and street fighter 2.

as for price, the ps3 is 425 with no games or anything whilst the xbox you can get for around 370 ffor the premium console with a game, 2 controllers and the hd-dvd drive.

on the actual 2 formats of hd, one of the big media companies said they will release their films on one disk with blu ray on one side and hd-dvd on other something which will probably catch on. also some companies such as lg are bringing out players that can play both.

It's called Xbox Elite (black version), i shit you not.

It will retail at $475 us. Will have built in HDMI and a 120 gig harddrive. Aswell as the 0.65 nm chip. That will reduce the amount of heat coming from xbox's and fix ALL of the 3 red lights broken 360 problems.

It is limited to 100,000 units. Until like october or so when it becomes the new premium *it will be white version* for $399
and the 'premium' will drop to $299, while they discontinue the 'core'


Also, DEVIL MAY CRY 4 is no longer an exclusive to ps3 aswell as Ace Combat 6(EXCLUSIVE FOR 360).

FF13 is also not confirmed exclusive for ps3.

Xbox 360 also has Achievements. Where you can win things by doing certain things in different games(varies a lot)

I'm going to get a ps3 because of Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid. Besides those, The Darkness, Killzone, Heavenly Sword, MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man is also looking amazing! Not to mention Assassin's Creed!
