No idea why people are complaining about performance. I'm running the game at full quality 1280x800 with 16x anisotropic and 16xQ fsaa and the game runs smoothly at 60+fps. Although I hear they "dumbed" down the graphics a bit for the beta, so I'm hoping they are a bit better for the final release.

That's really refreshing to hear, it's funny, I had such high hopes for D3 and Q4 and had totally given up on ET:QW, didn't expect anything from it so if it comes through finally that's awesome.

Didn't you play W:ET ix.ir? After the first half and hour of playing it, it was obvious for me that it has someone who knows about gameplay behind. I have always been confident on SplashDamage since then, just cause they know how to design gameplay. I would expect you to understand this better than other people ;)

I was more worried about the technical side than the hoped for gameplay side, I think Q4 would have been very good if it'd started off closer to where it is now but it bombed.

W:ET's gameplay is definately above the average drivel but it had some major issues that put me off, the sheer level of spam is really boring.

loving it, although its running at about 20fps in firefights on my pc. such a good game. only niggles are like i say the system requirements and the fact theres only 150 24 man servers for 60000 keys, which seem to be full all the time. i just connect to a server and leave it connecting until im in.

vehicles dont wreck the game at all, and theres plenty of counters. the deployables are nice also.

ill get an upgrade in a couple of months to sort out the performance issues =)

Client FPS is in multiples of 30, so 30, 60, 90. Server and netcode runs at 30 in lockstep tho. D3 and Q4 run at 60.

I'm confused with this fps shit.. with default settings I get 60fps like I expected in the game. Is there a way to change it clientside unlike q4? and why is everyone talking about 30fps.. is that just serverside? cause like I said I've always had 60fps and I haven't messed with any of the commands

Netcode runs at 30 fps.

Client runs in lockstep with the netcode at 30fps, producing a frame per server packet.

With the default settings, the client also fills in the gaps by extrapolating (taking good guesses) another frame per packet, to give a total of 60. Depending on what you have com_unlock_maxFPS set to, you can have more in multiples of 30; 30, 60, 90 etc.

This beta is just plain impressive, i dont exactly have a beast of a machine - - - - 3500+ singlecore, gig of ram and ati x1950pro and its more than playable for me with graphics on high, basically -

<3 the q2 rail gun, and q3 lightning gun :p
<3 being able to bunny 2x faster than ppl sprinting
<3 the fact that it actually feels like your hitting somthing, unlike bf2 where it seems like your shooting at paper targets, that ones hard to explain.. you have to play to get it

Yay, we have one hell of time shooting helicopters in BF2
Spawn campers with tanks and APCs are a pain (especially in Strike at Karkand which is the best map imo) !

Distribution page was here. As you can see, all gone now. 60,000 keys in five days. That's a lot of attention...

- The netcode feels a bit worse than osp.
- The servers seems unstable and 2 of them have crashed while I played (1.5 hours played)
- There are no servers east of Netherland on the serverlist, which is stupid since the largests amount of quake players are from scandinavia and eastern europe.
- Sounds are annoying.

The gameplay itself is ok tho. Haven't played it enough to criticize it I guess.

So what are you implying? That there infact are servers east of GMT or that there are less players over here? Either way I'm still from this planet.

- Frankfurt is east of the netherlands
- I've seens loads of Germans already
- every schoolkid knows that Skandinavians ping well EVERYWHERE :P

Wow, sounds like really good news for this game. I was REALLY skeptical at first when I heard that it might turn out to be a BF clone, but it sounds like it's coming together nicely. When is this bitch getting released now?

I actually found a thread with lots of whine from bf guys complaining it is not the game _they_ were promised. And that it's much to fast for them =]

I've heard some BF2 people didn't like it because of the speed, among other things :P and tweakability.

Frankly ET:QW is just wow for me..

The movement is absolutely brilliant as far as I'm concerned. It reminds me of a re-worked QW movement with focus on air control rather than contemporary strafing methods.

The fact that to many this movement won't readily present itself is a great factor to the game. At once it gives something for the seasoned quaker who works it out quicker due to experience in previous quake titles. Where they can begin to dig their teeth into and begin to master it and an added incentive to the BF/ET players who can now begin to develop a new skill which will greatly help them in game.

Frankly ET:QW is the most balanced game I have ever come across apart from QW itself or RTCW.

Far too many. Thankfully SplashDamage appear to have their heads screwed on tight and are very much walking their own path in terms of development style. Their gameplay, not to be compromised. Just hope Acitivision don't shit on them as they have with id in the past.

Love the game as it stands. Easily one of the strongest releases since Quake 3. And even better, it looks like TF2 might be as strong.

Fuck consoles - this is the year of the PC gamer :p
