at least et:qw doesnt have any dx10/vista only features, such as physics and day/night effects being completely removed in the multiplayer on XP systems.
They left it out for a reason yee landlubbers, ahoy, without dx10 you get terrible performance me hearties. Shiver me timbers ETQW has both bad graphics and performance, believe it or not this does detract from the gameplay, ARRR!
people always say stuff like this when comparing id engines/games to other companies. eg quake vs duke nukem 3d, q3 vs ut... guess who won those? wait a few years, turn the graphics and resolutions to max in both, and run around. i'm betting et:qw will still look and play good, while crysis will have been long forgotten.
another issue is how many fps does crysis run at? if it's 30fps or something... it's not even worth comparing.
considering ETQW is a built using an engine released in 2004 which had likely three years building time? thus past generation, and crysis happens to be next generation.....
Current ETQW looks much better, your screenshot was with r_megadraw 3 or worse and medium quality or less. You get a much better image with r_megadraw 0, but in beta 1 it cost too much fps for most so you had to access it in console to get it. In beta 2 the performance increased alot and r_megadraw was defaulted to 0.
Breaking news: brand new engine looks better than a three years old engine. Some may even expect that UT3 will also look better than ETQW! Yeah, that would be a huge surprise.
