short stacked = when the ev of folding is bigger than calling or pushing. cEV will always be positive but the $EV of calling or pushing can be less than it is for folding and then you should fold.

To put it simple, lets say you lose a race versus someone with a slightly smaller stack then yours. For instance say you get allin and lose with QQ vs AQ, your stack 2050 and your opponnent 2000 and youre left with 50 chips. If you are on the bubble in a tournament and the next hand there are a couple of allins(or you can be certain that will happen before you have to post the blinds) then moving up the prize ladder will probably be more valuable than your increase in equity for doubling or tripling your stack with and risking to be knocked out.
These are simple icm calculations you can do with a calculator or a program like sngpt or sng wizard :P

tournament wise if the antes are high, players will have to play looser and play weaker hands, so it is likely someone pushes all in with say AK Q J 10, so if you have AA then obviously hes dominated, whereas if it was the early stages of the tournament it is very likely only to be a very strong hand as the antes arent punishing the players.

Do you seriously mean you'd fold aces preflop against a loose player in a 10 player cash game? That's just crazy.

most of time no, but like i said depends on his table image etc im just trying to explain it in general, he could be a skilled player mixing up play giving a loose image to build up his implied odds when he hits a monster hand, you can still come accross as loose at lower value pot bets of say $40 not risking too much but giving the correct image and im am talking 5/10 no limit here, which is the low end high stakes so they aint gonna be total fishes.

if you won't call all in with two aces you shouldn't play at that table or with less money.

ow clever boy he knows about variance, variance doesnt always come into play here and i doubt u have the ability to calculate the variance well anyway, and since variance on just a high pair is also risky, variance isnt simple to calculate as u dont always know the exact range of hands ur up against a lot of the time, so if ur wrong n do call for variance on only a top pair ur risking ur stack whether it states ull make posivitive cash by winning the pot out of so many hands, and u cant even judge my play off a simple post i did to explain something in a basic way, so stop trying to make urself look like a pro.

The discussion is about folding aces PREflop.. There are tons of situations in which you can fold them postflop.

pre flop no, u can never fold them as ur holding the nuts, but u still should consider the amount of callers you get. Im a firm believer in raising the hell out of aces pre flop if acting early. In tournaments ive seen chip leaders fold aces, to 3 or 4 all ins playing it safe and securing thier chips to move up in their ranking letting thier opposition take each other out.

i depends where the button is. if a few players go all in before you then i would fold.

i play on jokerstars and it always seems to throw up pocket pairs for 2 to 3 of the players at the same time. Maybe it's just the run of things but it does seem a bit strange.

i haven't won with aces in weeks tho and they are starting to become a bit of a liabilty as people always seem to hit something on the turn or river

Every situation is so different situation.
But mostly what's bad is to slowplay AA (Don't include nuts!).
You're holding AA... Raise that up! BBx3 would be enough. If flop comes e.g. 578 and if TAG player call or reraise your raise then you have to think: Fold or not?
The same thing is with QQJ flop. There's pretty nice chance someone's holding trips/set or even full house!
But you will not set yourself in a trouble if you raise that AA up!
And watch 'bout your position!
