Lowering the DPI will do worse than lowering the Windows Sensitivity. ( But thats not the point right? )

About Windows Sensitivity :

When you lower to a notch below than 6/11 on some Windows Versions ( Windows XP x64 Only AFAIK ) , the pointer loses precision... Fortunately on most Versions of Windows its working as it should and won't degrade your pointer precision...

But if you are on a notch higher than 6/11 then you will lose precision for sure.

About the Razer Sensitivity , I don't know ;[ , so I can't help , but I remember reading a Manual about Razer Drivers that explained everything...


"Sensitivity
Mouse sensitivity is an internal filter of the driver. The maximum sensitivity setting of 10 is unfiltered. Each incremental stop or setting is a 10% decrease, e.g. 1 setting will decrease mouse pointer input to 10% (i.e. a linear graph).


Acceleration
Acceleration is an internal filter of the driver, and is primarily a legacy option for low dpi mice users. With acceleration enabled, the faster you swipe the mouse, additional movement is added.

Windows XP has acceleration turned on by default as a convenience for users assuming that everyone will have 400dpi mice, but this will likely be a hindrance to most gamers and precision users who require greater accuracy. The ‘acceleration off’ option (default) turns off internal acceleration only and does not affect Windows XP acceleration, which can be turned off via the Control Panel, Mouse, Pointer Options, and unselecting ‘Enhance Pointer Precision’.




Windows Pointer Speed Pointer speed is the Windows implementation of Sensitivity. In Windows XP, a setting of ‘5’means there is no filtering (default). This bar is included as a convenience."

Okay so what you're saying is putting the windows sensitivity down a few notches below 6/11 will not make the dpi lower or make it lose precision? But putting it HIGHER than 6/11 will make it lose precision? Am I correct? There is no real disadvantages putting the sensitivity lower than 6/11? I thought somebody said anything lower than 6/11 = you're just lowering the mouse's DPI.

Yeah , It was Antigen07 that said that on the "Ultimate Mouse Guide" ( Which is awesome , thank you Antigen07 ) , then he updated it on some Forums with newer tests about Windows Pointer Speed and found many things about Windows Version , Lowering the Notch , raising the Notch and Precision things...

4. There is an disadvantage , but the Higher DPI covers that , lowering the Windows Pointer Speed will INCREASE the Dots needed to move to move 1 Pixel.

Example : On 6/11 you move 1 Dot and the Screens move 1 Pixel. On 4/11 you move 2 Dots and the Screens move 1 Pixel ( 50% of the Original Speed ).

If you don't move 2 Dots then it won't move 1 Pixel... That might be an disadvantage , but when you see that the Mouse is moving 1800 DPI ( Dots Per Inch ) , you can be sure that your movement will be as precise as hell even if it takes 1-4 Dots Per Pixel ;]...

Lowering the Notches will reduce your Pointer Speed , that means that if your mouse moves 1800 Dots Per Inch when you reduce the Windows Mouse Pointer to 4/11( 0.5 Multiplier ) , you will have to move 2 Dots to get 1 Pixel moved on the Screen , since the Mouse moves 1800 Dots Per Inch , you will be moving 900 Pixels Per Inch if you put the Windows Mouse Pointer to 4/11.

Lowering the Windows Pointer Speed sometimes have good effects on some games , I think that they are the "Non Direct Input Games" , because if you have a Higher DPI than the Maximum Screen Resolution , you will have Negative Acceleration if the Mouse goes too fast that there is no place to move.

You have two ways to get rid of that , either reduce the DPI or reduce the Windows Pointer Speed so it doesn't get to the End of Screen so fast...

I'm more comfortable using 3/11 instead of 4/11.... is this bad? I'm gonna "lose" DPI regardless at lans I guess since they won't allow driver installation.

Okay sorry I guess "DPI" doesn't have any REAL effect on the performance of the mouse. I just want to make sure using 3/11 or 4/11 windows sensitivity will not make my mouse twitchier or make it more jumpy or give it accel or rounding errors. I want as much precision as I can get with the mouse without any drivers (for lan) yet also more controllable than 1800dpi @ 6/11 windows sensitivity (sensitivity way too high, cursor goes everywhere).

Also in Yan's Deathadder Guide he says to "set up razer sensitivity after installing driver, then uninstall driver to keep the setting". This doesn't work for me however. If I just set the Razer sensitivty, uninstall the razer driver, the mouse still works too fast, it just stays back at normal 1800DPI (or whatever DPI i set it to using the driver before the uninstall) and 6/11 windows sensitivity, the razer driver sensitivity is completely lost and is not controllable/save-able.

I recently stopped using the Deathadder drivers and I'm wondering the same as the above quoted poster.

Before i uninstalled the drivers I restored the settings back to the default driver settings, which put the razer sensitivity to the max (appears to be "10" on the scale).

Then I uninstalled the drivers but my sensitivity seemed to stay the same as the high speed default "10".

So does the razer driver sensitivity stay programed in the onboard memory or does it get reset?

I cannot notice any negative or positive acceleration in game. I have also used the cpl mousefix to disable any mouse acceleration from the default OS driver.

DPI stays with 1.21 and newer firmware (note that 1.21 is bugged and should be flashed to 1.25), sensitivity from drivers is done through a filter between raw input and direct input/windows. As soon as you stop using the driver, your sensitivity will revert to 1:1 in DInput and 1:x in windows based on your windows sensitivity. It will be 1:1 if you are running 10/20 (middle notch). This is why DPI switching in hardware is far superior to software sensitivity settings. Logitech have the best drivers IMO as they allow you to pick and chose everything. You can have DPI switching in hardware set with increments of 50dpi and alternate button settings while running default windows input where the drivers are transparant to the user or you can use their speed and acceleration implementations. All these options are available without needing to unload the drivers.

I kinda stopped messing with Logitech mice because I've had some horrible issues with them in all my past experiences. I really hated the drivers for the MX500, 510, 518 mice. So I've never used any of the new mice after the 518.

Yes, it would be notch 6/11 in control panel.

As someone who has been using the DeathAdder for quite a time now I suggest you lower your DPI instead of lowering the Windows/Razer-sensitivity (does that even make a difference? I always thought the Razer sens-bar was just an external slider for the Windows pointer-speed).
Depending on your mousepad, lowering the DPI won't decrease your mouse's performance too much. You might not even notice it at all - depending on your playstyle.

1800 DPI + 3/11 gave me horrible results. Can't imagine someone with a low sensitivity playing with those settings as they give major neg. accel (well, at least in non-DInput games)

Yeah seems like whenever I touch the windows sens it always gives me weird movements and accel. Changing DPI and/or razer sensitivity is perfect though.

No when you install the razer drivers, it gives you a 3rd setting, its own razer sensitivity, completely non-related to the master sensitivity (what the driver names windows sensitivity as).

900dpi 6/11 is same as 1800dpi 4/11

The reason why 900dpi was not recommended for DeathAdder is because according to Sujoy's benchmarks the perfect control speed drops from 3.9m/s (1800dpi) to 2.8m/s (900dpi). So technically, the mouse performs better at 1800dpi.

However, you should put things in perspective. Perfect control at 2.8m/s is more than enough anyway. Logitech MX518 and Microsoft IE3.0 (when overclocked) have perfect speed of 2.1m/s and 1.6 m/s.

I'm using 3/11 in windows right now... this would be like 450 DPI I imagine? When I say "like" 450 DPI , the REAL DPI in the sensor is still operating at 1800 DPI as i've set it in the razer panels, is it not? I mean it "emulates" a lower DPI but in reality it's still running at the DPI set in the hardware, am I right?

The razer drivers are such utter fucking garbage that, along with their infamously bad build quality, I've just given up on razer completely.

Change the "razer" control panel sens, then close the crapplet and reopen it and ... it's reset itself. Because the fucking mongoloids save the sens to a GLOBAL registry key that (a) only the Administrator account can write to, and thus (b) everyone using the machine has to have the same sens.

That's ridiculously incompetent for a mouse released in 2006, and the drivers STILL aren't fixed over a year later. Quality support...
