Yeah well I don't wanna spend too much money on a car, so I'd be happy with a "normal" 1.9l tdi with 130 bhp.

If you want a golf again you could go for the R32 with 4WD and 250 bhp.

But I would always say Audi > VW quality wise. and I do live in Braunschweig where VW produces parts for the golf.

I had a Mk2 VW Scirocco and it definitely made me a VW "fan" after that. It was great but unfortunately we had to part. :-(

I agree though Audi certainly has a more quality look and "feel" to it than VW.

Still, do you really need the all terrain features there, since your spouse gets by with the mini cooper.

As pertaining to me, I use public transport,feet and my bicycle.

i ride my bicycle or run to work (less than 5k to get there). my wife's car gets us to most other places we want to go. but most of our leisure activities aren't mini-appropriate. for some of the hiking trails here, you need something with articulation and 4wd just to get to the trail head. also, can't put mountain bikes in the mini.

and it's got a two-tone, italian cordoba leather interior. she'd have a fit if i even suggested putting our 40kg dog in there after a few hours on the trails/beaches (or several days camping). not to mention we're doing a lot of renovating in our home. the mini isn't exactly made for hauling a tonne of grout, thinset, ceramic tile, etc.

the mini gets great fuel mileage, fits in any parking spot, and blows most of the rice-racers/tuners off the road by and far before the supercharger even kicks in (at which point they get destroyed); we use it for most things. but the wrangler certainly does things and goes places we wouldn't dare use the mini for.

my father lived in North Africa for several years and had Toyota Landcruiser there which he also needed. Of course, it's not comparable to a toy jeep like yours but oh well ;)

on the trail, modern landcruisers, fj cruisers, and hummers are like the little kids that get their lunch money stolen by wranglers. these days, the only way any of those could hope to keep up is with thousands of dollars sunk into the aftermarket. the newest wranglers are easily the most capable all-terrain vehicle ever mass produced :)

try using an open wrangler to travel somewhere in the Sahara.

You'll soon see where you fail miserably ;)

In my opinion a lot of older cars are nicer than newer. Its just a style thing. Doesn't seem to be anything radical and different that catches my eye anymore. Its all samey samey, a bit like "pop" music these days (we live in such boring times, don't you think?)

If they are looked after and maintained well older cars should be relatively trouble free. A new one? Perhaps a German car then - the Audi S3 - that's nice.

Yes you're right there are lots of nice bikes and I guess it depends what type you're into. I personally chose a Honda VFR400 NC30 because they have such a charming look and sound fantastic with a V4 engine and gear driven camshafts.

You will die one day, d3c4y. That is something you will have to come to terms with. On a motorcycle you are quite safe if you use common sense and obey general traffic rules and actually use the knowledge you learned to pass a UK DSA motorcycle test. Take the speed to a track and you will live long and prosper (maybe). :-)

i dont know all that much about bikes tbh, but when i do see one i do go abit wobbly at the knee's when i see/hear a really awesome one go past! :)

if u wanna drive around looking like a bell-end then get the civic or mr2.
if u wanna drive around in total class/comfort get the s3.u will not be disapointed with the s3 its a drivers car.
