I don't have tested it yet, but from the changelog how would it be someone will make a tutorial demo for every jump and then integrate it into q4max? Maybe plus adding a new extra menu?

They're already accessible via the callvote + admin menus, but yea, had considered a new menu section for them, but kinda hard to justify when there arent many tutorials.

If people are willing to make a library like this, I think theres a good chance this could get into an official release.

Tutorial maps would be cool too ;)

The game literally plays like LAN with unsmooth turned. :D and it's barley any less smooth than the game normally is. The LG effect is also nice.

ahhh.. People with low ping think people move slower ... people with high ping think people move faster. AHHH sure you can hit stuff but ping now gives an AMAZING advantage =(.

I think this is the only release I have whined about, and I only say anything about this hit reg because "i know" it can be done better, (not by me because I don't know how to code", but I have seen it work better in not to be disclosed projects, so it is possible.

dunno what it's really about, but supposing it's about a gain or loss of framerate since q4max changed the hud system, it made me think of : did you ever noticed how much framerate smoothness impacts physics in q4 ? I don't mean something related to how many frames per second you got (according you already got a fps rate > si_fps in any case ofc), but when you have the overall feeling the framerate is smooth
e.g. the feeling of smoothness gain you can have when you compare a map which got bugged visportals, and the same map fixed -best exemple being original wcp9 vs wcp9_perf so far- (too bad you don't see the diff ofc.. which kind of sink my arguing, but whatever) ; this changes the physics a lot (longer turnslides, ramp jumping more efficient, etc)

it's not that useful if your opponent has lower ping, and also has unsmooth 2.

Hey, what's up with this mouse input? It feels really, really weird. My aim and movement have a serious drag going on all of a sudden.

I'd say it is still useful even with them having a lower ping. Person with lower ping will always have an advantage as they have more up to date info, but this evens the playing field a bit.

Mouse input isn't part of the game-code, so its not (directly) related to the release.

Framerate still solid? How clean is your config? What else did you change since you last played q4?

I last duelled Moshman about 2 days ago on .81 and it felt perfect. Everytime a new q4max (or any mod, for that matter) comes out, I completely remove the previous folder for it. I did of course backup my previous q4max folder and will be copy/pasting my .cfg into the new q4max folder if you give me the go ahead that that won't cause too many conflicts.
Framerate is still stable, yes, it's plenty smooth, it's just the input itself that got weird out of the blue..
Can I use my previous config?

you probably just need to copy over these cvars:
m_smooth, m_accel & sensitivity

the rg shots are getting registered even at ping 100 unlike lg which is still prediction :<

why does it look like th rg fires more immediately now?

chg: Removed cg_predict* cvars. The behaviour is forced now, as it is always the best thing to use.

The RG prediction is particularly accurate, there is no reason not to predict it, and it "feels" much better.

Note that this is completely independent of the new form of prediction of other players (cg_unsmoothclients) - it is this which removes the need to lead to compensate for ping.

Hm, just noticed something that didnt make the changelog but is in there:

add: "saveMode <name>" command. This saves the servers current settings into a mode .cfg. Use the vote / admin menus to configure the server the way you want, and then save the mode using this command.

Yea, Its quite nice - bit of a shame that you cant quite vote for everything (instagib + tickrate being two popular ones).

It can even be used from a client to capture the settings from your favourite server ;)

So is there still a need to adjust net_clientprediction with cg_unsmoothclients? Usually, I left prediction at 0 but I also needed to adjust it at times.

Also, since the new command can lose some of the smoothness, will demo playback also look the same? (thinking about this in regards to that frag videos could look strange =P)

no, demos are working still fine

With net_clientPrediction 0 you'll probably still have to lead a bit, because thats too low. Reverting back to the cvars default of 10 is better than that, IMO.

If you suffer from a fluctuating ping, its better to go ahead of the server a bit further than you need, and it all balances out and can hide some of the flux.

I don't quite understand the bit about feedback - you haven't posted anything on the q4max forums in the last 6 months, so I don't know what feedback I'm supposed to be ignoring.

Overall I guess I like the release. I'm not a fan of the unsmooth command.

Was it supposed to make it easier to aim with high ping? All it really did was raise the bar across the board. Low pings can shoot 35-40 LG, 50+ RG, so it sort of cancels out any type of gain a high ping player would get. Maybe that's the wrong way of looking at it.

The point of it is to make it more accurate to what's actually happening. The fact is, q4 is already *trying* to extrapolate the position of all entities to be in line with the server. It is doing that correctly for projectiles, and for local players. However its not doing it correctly for other players pre unsmooth. All this cvar really does is make q4 predict other players positions by the correct amount, rather than by an increasingly wrong amount the higher your ping, which is why you have to lead.

Yes, of course high ping will always be at a disadvantage - this is just a fact of life.. There is no magic bullet that removes all effects of latency.

It is Q4's very own xerp, obv..
