I found this clip on youtube of shizem doing a run on spider crossing. Man this guy is amazing, for anybody that wants to see why I <3 Q4 so much over Q3 this is why
ugh, that is the main reason quake4 sucked. endless crouchslides with high mobility and barely any sound. that was faster and less vulnerable than both cpm and quakeworld movement. Which says a lot about how crappy crouchsliding was. I like cpm and quakeworld movement, but they both allow too much control for the ideal competitive fps game.
Yeah, I can see why you love Q4 more than Q3 though. Since any average Joe can crouchslide like an idiot and do that run instead of actually using brains, energy and dedication to do it in Q3.
true on a certain level and that's a shame as NTF and CTF would be much better (they're already good) if they were not random pickup teams for every game
call VQ3 bad names all you like, the CPM community are a bunch of lazy cunts in comparison when it comes to teams and running events for each other which would make NTF and CTF 10x better
Lol dude.. movement is much more challenging in Q4 than it is in CPM, I don't care what you say. In CPM even when you are moving at extremely fast speeds it is still relatively easy to avoid hitting walls if you know the map. All it takes is knowing the right time to press left or right. In Q4 positioning is a much bigger deal if you want to use crouch sliding to move fast like that.
Btw if the average person can just crouch slide like an idiot, show me a video of you doing it even close to as well as Shizem just did.
This is not a "quake 4 is better than quake 3" statement, as i prefer quake 3 cpm, but quake 4 is my next favorite quake movement style, and for anyone who really knows how to 'crouchslide' , you'd know that it's a movement that takes alot of skill to do right.
Some of you think it's easy, (which basic crouchsliding really is simple) but to do it the right way to keep speed around corners, knowing when to release to keep speed, making the right mouse movements, is something that takes alot of practice and dedication cause it's pretty frustrating when you are learning it.
I really don't think alot of you nay-sayers know what you are talking about when you say stuff like, 'any average joe can crouchslide like an idiot instead of using brains, energy and dedication'.
It could be a possibility that its a reaction from an individual who has been p ut on a pedestal---and especially if a person has been put there multiple times ont his forum and everywhere you go. This is not to say anything bad or against shizem--he has skill. But its also a natural reaction too that people will dislike a person who has been put there.
I remember watchign the stermy vs fatality video and found it really lame that after every frag fatality would make the crowd would roar.
Would have been cool though, since this is a forum, that the input control would be in that video :P

fact is he rj'd off flag and crouchslide all around and it was still slower than CPM with no weps used and only slightly faster than vq3 without using weapons.
Unless this video was just to show off what crouchsliding is I don't see the big deal. Cpm is way smoother and faster.
Not to mention he isn't really doing anything but pressing a button to crouchslide. Cpm you actually have to do something other than pressing a single button.
Still the video looked smooth and kind of neat. But for overall speed purposes and stuff, it wasn't the craziest thing I've ever seen.

Anyone can do this slide. Watch a toxjq vod if you really want to be blown away by the skill that Q4 allows.
Q3 is very limiting in comparison to Q4. However, I think 1.4 turned the game a bit arcade-ish, as the slides etc became so overpowered it turned into rushquake. If 1.3 was updated with smaller hitboxes and a 90 damage rail, I think we could've seen the perfect quake :)
The problem with smaller hitboxes is that it isn't accompanied by netcode competent enough for people to really aim as well as they should be. What the old hitboxes did was they compensated for the margin of error that the netcode was to blame for, and hence, Q4 was more playable online.
tl;dr - Take 1.3, give it better netcode, un-nerf the shaft, and everybody's happy.
Although the nerfed shaft is a slight concern even in such an environment, 1.3 on LAN is otherwise perfect. 1.4.x, unfortunately, broke the cardinal rule, "don't fix what isn't broken."

There is a difference of showing it in a actual game where it has a function and highlights the gameplay in a game related way. But this is more a self promo which tend to look like a self glorification movie which will make some flame like you read over.
So there shouldn't be a problem to put demo's in a movie as long as it's from a actual game (actual game with more then 1 person interacting with others) as it hightlights both how the game is and the given players involved and not just this single player vs nothing doing everything perfect.
Ah this wasn't intended to be a self promo. Just for Q4 fans who haven't seen Shizem move. I didn't even care about how fast he was moving. I just liked how he flowed fluently and rounded the corners so nicely.
It's impressive, but I personally wanna see a fast cap in VQ3/CPM that doesn't rely on build-up like that -- something that would be plausible for a real match.
Keep a 1:1 ratio in windows drivers sensitivity (6th notch, located in the middle) and you should be fine. 450 dpi has worked for many many pros for years, so I don't see why it wouldn't work for you. Only if you have an issue with having to move your mouse further because of a higher resolution, would there possibly be a downside.
it will be slow, get razer deathadder if you want fast windows cursor, its just the same as 3.0 but with more dpi... and plz dont ask me any more questions i cba to reply... just use search.
then place the militia_1.1.15_beta_7.zip in the new militia_1.7_1.1.13 directory that is in you main quake 4 directory, rightclick it and choose extract here from your archive app plugin, and click yes to overwrite all existing files
