The /register/ on the beta sign in page wasn't working the other day, and it seems to work now - but you need a CD key to create an account. Hopefully that means it'll be pretty soon.
I got game

it might feel good
or sound a little somethin
but fuck the game if it ain't saying nothin
Invites from the public beta signups have not yet been sent out. We have a few set goals for the project to complete before we roll out those beta invites. Everyone hang on tight!
(16:53:59) (@SyncError) There will be beta invites created from the public beta registrations in 2-3 weeks.
(16:54:20) (@SyncError) There is a small closed beta that has been going on since December. We will expand this shortly to include the public registrations.
(16:54:35) (@SyncError) Before we can do so, we have to complete a few features to support a larger test base.
(16:54:41) (@SyncError) (Hence the 2-3 weeks needed)
(16:55:22) (@SyncError) 2-3 weeks is a loose timeframe. Its really more a matter of "when its done" for those features, because the beta cannot expand in size until they are done.
In order to avoid a premature death like Q4 I think it would be a good idea to make the first Quake Live public beta release FFA only. Nobody takes FFA particularly seriously so if you have bugs like the Q4 "dead on hit with a rocket does no damage" it doesn't bother people that much. However, a bug like that in a duel is a big issue and can get people very annoyed and put them off playing the game, especially if it doesn't get fixed for a long time.
The same applies for tweaking of constants like projectile speed, weapon damage and movement control. If you change the game constants in a FFA environment it doesn't have that much impact on a the game and therefore doesn't bother people much. However, the situation is very different for duels and if you change the game constants it can completely change the way a duel map is played. This sort of endless tweaking of gameplay constants caused many people to quit Q4 and I think it would be much better to get the gamplay worked out in a FFA environment before the more serious business of duels starts.
I'd hate to see QL meet a similar fate to Q4 and the best way to avoid that seems to get everything ironed out using FFA before people start playing the game too seriously.
Once the main bugs are fixed and the gamplay constants largely locked down you would obviously then introduce other game styles into the beta just as was done with Q3Test. This way once the duel/tourney mode testing began most of the bugs would be fixed and players would not be put off by constant changes to the gameplay.
Q3 beta was done with FFA only at first and then adding 1v1 later and the game turned out very well so it seems like the right route to follow. On the other hand Q4 released all game modes for testing at once and ended up failing. It just seems more sensible to me to follow the path of success than the path that failed.
Nothing has changed in the last ten years that has suddenly made it possible to write bug free code. I just thing it would work best if the bugs were discovered in a less competative environment.
Anway, I'm not looking for an argument. I just want Quake Live to be successful so I thought I'd point out how Q3 worked by ironing out the bugs in FFA and how Q4 failed by introducing all the game modes at once and repeatedly tweaking the settings. It was just a suggestion.
the whole idea of a beta is to test every aspect of the game extensively, if some shit is broken and somebody decides to discontinue playing the game because of that then he is a moron, I dont blame the beta. But it is true to get new blood in, some servers should be made which runs FFA 24x7 and that too exclusively for newbies and nobody even with 6 months of quake experience should play in it.
I will like a vq3 where a dm6 match does not become a rail / lg percentage wars, I mean its slowly getting irritating for me, last 10-15 dm6'es I have played in last few weeks has been less quake and more lg-percentage war, win or lose both sides, its not a satisfying experience :(
That is a bit stupid over simplification of the debate that has been going on between OSP and CPMA, that has actually proved that the community does know what VQ3 is and should be. How do you conclude that the "community" does not know what VQ3 is from debate, that argues whether the added features in another mod are enough to ignore the un-original VQ3 feeling it offers or not. Furthermore, the VQ3 community is VQ3, without them there is no VQ3, so their opinion counts more than all the coders combined, no matter how "wrong" it is technically, if it feels right to them. Especially when someone is making money out of it. I think the movement in QL(VQ3) is a great case study in id's new attitude about listening to the community and seeing if they learned anything from their past mistakes, or if it was all talk. I doubt there will be another example where there is so clear majority consensus over something that might be so hard to implement and that seems to be so important. What I'm most afraid will happen, is that id is again delusional in that they can cater to the mysterious "new" core audience and bypass their old "whiney" core audience all together and think that the new players will this time magically ignore all the old timers saying that the game sucks dont waste your time. When in fact it's this old whiney core of players that will decide if this game will make it or not by doing most of the marketing if they like it, and they are all VQ3 players and that is the bunch id should be listening to.
I find it ironic, if for example, id is taking advice from CPMA's development team while they are making a standalone game same time, which might be a direct competition to QL and might make id lose money. That though is great for the "community", because if id turns out to be as stubborn and unwilling to listen to VQ3 players as CPMA team, you might aswell play standalone CPMA as it has no adds (I assume).
they still didn't get the invites from quakelive.com, those haven't been sent out. ppl that already were in the beta could invite 5 friends so slowly more and more ppl got in.
He basicly says there that its a high priority to fix such an old bug, just the "how" it gets fixed was still open. (but i think they already decided on the "how")
there are also some other posts by him that tell the same thing.
Thanks. If they really make a fallback to 85-fps-physics, than me (and not only me) will stick with OSP!
Who wants to limp throu the maps as in the end of last millenium?
Me not, that's for sure!
i think theres clearly enough 'newbies' and 'yes men' on the beta team already, maybe thats why it's being ruined? can't see how adding more would benefit anyone :/
I'd pay for a beta slot as well. Actually, charging for the beta slots might have been a good idea. From what I read in the other threads most of the people who have been given beta keys aren't playing the game. If they'd have charged for beta access then it would have ensured they got testers who were enthusiastic to test the game.
On the down side the forums would have been filled with endless whining about them charging for the beta, so I don't suppose they could win either way.
i would like to start an esreality qakelive beta invitation community exclusiv for esreality member. That means i will invite 3 esreality user and they will have to invite 3 esr user and so on.
How we will know the esr users will invite 3 more esr users?
Unfortunaley there is no way to force anyone to invite esr users so we will have to trust the esr community. Dudes keep in mind the invite system will just work when everyone keep on inviting esr users. I think its a fair deal to invite 3 esr users and 2 friends for a quakelive beta key, is it?
The first 3 replys will be on my invitation list :)
(you will have to send me you email adress by pm)
ya well ... i didn't count the hour of rain, 'cause that was pretty much a redemption.
i liked maximo park and nada surf the most btw. sound at the green stage during beatsteaks was mega shit.
where did you stay? we camped on C3 and parked on P3a. was kiiiiiiind of a long walk.
ok, 5 of you have been added, you have to wait till they send out next batch of invite / quakelive release whichever happens earlier. I think you guys have to be little patient since they sent out the last batch of invite pretty recently.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Keep Quake Alive !!
still have like 2-3 invites left, pm me your full name + email if you want (no, dont use hotmail and no, dont post it here unless you want your email ruined by spam)
I got my account and now have four invites (I used one). I'm not sure who from the above has been invited so I'll add the first four to reply to this post. Post your first name, second name, email and skill level (from a choice of "beginner", "intermediate", "expert" and "not sure").
Unfortunately the reply function broke soon after I posted so the last two had to imsg me. I was also unable reply to say the invites had gone and then soon afterwards the whole site went offline. Sorry to ult1ma and Drew for the confusion - it was a rather unfortunate time for the site to break.
I've put the four above on the invite list and you'll presumably receive an email when they add the next batch of players. They added over 2000 new players on 25 June so it might be a while before you get your invite.
Hey guys - any chance of an invite? I'll pass all five invites back to the board... I just really loved q3 and am desperate to try this remake. Cheers in advance.
I've got 2 invites left as well, first to reply will get one. Have to say that invites are not instant they send them in batches once a while so it might take a few weeks to get the actual invite.
people have patience, currently no quakelive beta user has invite slots. I think everyone will be starting to get invites when they open them up again.

Skill: I played Quake2 for a year, jumped to Quake3 and played it for 3 years at least, bought Quake4 but did't play too much, really dislike it...Now I'm playing Q3 for the fun. Let's say I know how to play but I'm not Cypher xD Mid-high maybe? :) OMG I've just realize I've been playing this since 99, that's 9 years, I definetly need to play QL! xD
