Isn't there any educational institution in France that offers some type of "American Culture" class? You should seriously look into it. What Stunt is getting at is that each of our states is as large if not bigger than some countries in Europe. Similar to European countries, each country sized state in US has a unique spin on our culture. Yes we all have the same constitution, but each individual state creates its own laws for a shit load of other things. So from state to state laws can be very different. Also we have no national language like most of you guys do. Most of us speak English, sure, but certainly not all of us. Also I can travel 5 hours west and people start using different words for things, and they have different accents. Plus there's a huge group of people who think they won the Civil War and still fly the confederate flag.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. I'm not saying this country is good. I think most of the people who live here are fucking morons who actually believe learning less in school is "cool", and they watch MTV for their fashion tips which no one should care about anyways. Yeah. During the summers I help out in a Factory, and I'd say 1/3 of the people there can speak English. The other 2/3 speak something else, and can barely understand English. Most of them speak Spanish or a language from Asia. They know basic words, but if you'd try to hold a conversation with them in English they wouldn't understand.

You're arguing about something that is found in every country in the world, little populations of immigrants et cetera that live within the greater first language (English in the case of the USA or UK for example) speaking community.

If the states are comparable to European countries then you should be able to give examples of states which don't speak English as their first language on a state level or states with entire regions where a different language is spoke.

Different regions of Switzerland, Belgium or the UK speak different first languages. France and Spain have a different first language.

Language is only the most obvious difference between countries in Europe and the differences go a lot deeper. The change from California to Maine would be relatively small in comparison to Portugal and Russia.

-a 24 year old half-korean girl who is a practicing non-denominational christian, and getting her masters in social work while working as a bank teller

-a 32 year old half-black father of 3 working as a mortgage originator
-a 33 year old black british lady born on the island of St. Lucia working as a loan officer who is a Jehovah's Witness

If that's not a melting pot of people working together, I don't know what is. None of the people I listed above are overweight. In fact, I'd say they are very fit, especially the younger ones.

And this is just within ear shot. I could talk about my night classes at my university and list the people I work next to there and it would be even more varied. People from all around the world, India, Korea, Russia, Poland, Germany, China, New Zealand, Argentina, Panama, etc. etc. -- All these nationalities I have known through friends at college.

I agree, when I was in Quebec City CA, we had to go out to eat 4 times a day to stay fed. I was a skinny kid then, I'm 40 pounds more muscular now I could never stay fed eating meals the size the french make them. 800-1000 calorie meals or bust. Plus snacking.

actually, when you go out to eat with french people, they usually stuff you.
you sometimes have to be carefull not to eat too much, because there's usually more, and if you eat up a whole plate, they'll fill it again right away.

People refer to the USA like they refer to China or Russia, in the same manner as you refer to them as being the baddies on our globe whilst they are just as large or larger and it wouldn't be that weird to refer to their own smaller regions in your logic.
The USA form a political and military entity, the European Union is far less powerfull in that optic and has no army that works in a similar manner. To the outside world, an American will introduce himself as an American, a citizen of a European country will introduce himself as French, Dutch, Belgian etc.

There's alot of younger athletic men and gym rats who have BMI over 25 and do not share the health risks of overfat people.

Obese is a better marker because most men are not going to reach that amount of lean mass without several years of hard work and good training. So that keeps it to a very small percentage of the population. Where as overweight muscular guys could be as high as 1-2% of men.

Further for people at the higher side of "healthy" BMI that do not lift weights, they're in my opinion still fat people. Whether that be a beer belly or skinny fat or whatever, 25 BMI doesn't look healthy on anyone without some muscle.

Actually, since this is a chart is concerned with "obesity" (BMI over 30) and not with "overweight" (BMI over 25) I think it's gonna be pretty accurate. A human being is very unlikely to have 30kg (just an example) "overweight" (in terms of the BMI) unless he/she is either:

VERY FAT
VERY BUILT
or has as you mentioned a natural physique that falls out of this category.

And I sincerely doubt that the majority of US citizens has such a "natural physique" that he falls out of the "general obesity category".

You just have to look around in the US and you can just see that a lot of people are just fat. Which of course doesn't mean you're doomed to die at 40. But endless statistics show that obesity increases certain health risks.

The fast food phenomena is just so very present in the US and the fact that the US is such a consumer and convenience driven society which somewhat advocates a "certain laziness" just results in a high percentage of "overweight" or "obese" people. It doesn't apply to everyone, but the trend is obvious:

Bad eating habbits + little to no exercise = "overweight".

Yeah, the chart WOULD BE even more inaccurate if one had taken body-fat percentage as indicator. But they didn't, so at least it's more accurate than that. And I don't see this chart being completely useless. Maybe it's inaccurate, but I believe it serves as a good rough overview.

When men start lifting weights and eating properly, they often undergo an improvement of body composition without changing their weight much. If a man's starting off overweight, then BMI fails to reflect his improvement in health.

The only point he's trying to make is bodyfat is what should be measured since BMI ignores the makeup of that mass.

The serious problem then is, calipers aren't accurate for obesely overfat people so there would be no easy way to get like an average bodyfat statistic for the country.

But all the map showed was % with BMI over 30. We're trying to say the statistic for people with an average skin fold thickness greater than 20, 22, 24 mm (whatever doctors decide) would be a much more accurate option, because you'd catch many fatties under BMI 30 and still leave alone all the weight lifters.

i bet you that they did take those things into account, using statistical techniques to take into account outliers etc.
