I found myself wondering, in one of these days, where are the 1000 complaining, full of pain, suffer and misery posts, on how ungrateful people are towards his sanctity, and I was missing them so much.
The only thing I thought arQon did right, was osp, now, that you people told me it's not his work, jeez...it's only getting better and better.

So he did two things, as much as I care: first off, he fucked up the standard bots really bad, and second, he was downgrading osp. Then, he decided to implement some cheating techniques to apparently improve netcode, and made a bad quakeworld clone, for quake3.

Firstly, you are using the wrong abbreviations. For clarification:
- cnq3 is the ChallengeQuake3.exe which is simply a changed version of the normal quake3.exe.
- CPMA is the mod by arQon and the promode team which focuses on their own set of physics (promode) and a lot of competition features.
- OSP is the mod by rhea which is dedicated to use a closely related version of the physics of Quake III Arena as they are out of the box and a lot of competition features.
- vq3 is the abbreviation for the gameplay physics which are closest to the originial physics.
- cq3 is the abbreviation for more changed version of these physics.
- cpm is the abbreviation for the promode physics.
I suppose you wanted to say that you did download CPMA and had some problems with it.

Secondly, voting any of the three physics modes does not change any other things besides the gameplay physics. That's for the sake of clarity. One has a set of physics modes and a set of gamemodes (like cq3dm). If one want to change any other things like timelimit or weapon respawn time one has to vote for them. For example, the recent Summer cup of Clanbase used the cq3 physics and the cq3dm gamemode. The former defines the gameplay physics and the latter other game variables like weapon respawn time or timelimit.

Thirdly, the mod CPMA starts up with the default cpm physics and gamemode settings because that is their focus. The promode team included vq3 physics and other game modes for the sake of the community.

I hope my post helped a bit to clear up this mess. I do not know what the problem with the bots is as I almost never use them. Do I understand you correctly that you think that you found a bug whereas the bots under the vq3 physics always look down (instead of doing other things) when they have low health points?

i stopped playing it and went back to qw for a while when you cut all the ammo packs down

the bunny hop never felt quite right in the first place and the lack of a secondhand on the game clock prompted me to slap a kitchen timer in front of my monitor. there are a lot of other changes in cpm that never made sense to me, like why would you make the most difficult weapon to use in the game (the plasma rifle) the weakest weapon on paper, it's not like the gun is too strong in vq3

We think about the bigger picture for every aspect of the game. Detailed answers have been given for the timer so I'm not going to regurgitate it here.

What's wrong with the green armours? They work and no one else seems to have any issue with them.

i don't like how the whole armor transformation deal works, and in qw a direct rocket hit will still kill you (but an indirect rocket never can)

CPM's no longer based on QW, only on what we see as better for the gameplay so in terms of CPM why would it be better if a direct rocket could kill a player with 100H and GA? Doesn't that make GA pretty pointless?

How would you make armour transformation work? The system is based on conversion by protective percentage and helps reduce the emphasis on pure armour looping by making it hard to hoover GAs and risky to get a YA when you're at 200 RA.

The only change there that's even marginally recent is reducing ammo, the rest are part of what CPM is, if you don't like that fair enough. The PG was stuck in a useless state for years because some people were worried it would become too powerful, more recently we've buffed it a bit but it's still pretty useless, the agility in CPM makes it hard for PG to function well.

yeah, that's the version when i stopped playing it. having such limited ammo on the map could have been workable if you dropped backpacks on death, or you simply added more ammo packs, but the way it stands i feel there's just way too little ammo on the map

anyway, you guys full tilt ripped off the stats on the SNG from QW, without really considering the big picture there. there's never any shortage of nails in both 1v1 and 4v4. same deal with the ammo changes in cpm. you guys more or less copy qw armor but it works because all the weapons are comically lethal, and you only really need to worry about running out of rocket ammo in the first 20 seconds or so off spawn.

so you cut down on the lethality a hair, which i could put up with because the netcode is good so i'm landing more damage anyway, but then you turn around and cut all the ammo down, and i feel like trying to take down a stacked player is now unreasonably difficult.

the pg is the strongest weapon on paper in vq3 and its only real use is to spam corners and get the occasional clutch frag, and you go crank the gameplay speed AND make the weapon weaker!?

it's obvious from the changes in cpm you wanted to make tiered weapons like in qw, except nobody in the dev team ever stopped to consider that when you take into account the difficulty of using weapon as their designed, it would make a lot more sense to make the sg and pg the high tier weapons and the rail and the shaft the mid tier ones, as those two will always remain useful purely because of how they're designed.

seeing as aquashark brought up halo first, this is actually one of the things that it gets totally right which quake gets totally wrong. weapons are balanced on paper by how difficult it is to realistically hit the max kill time. the lone exception to this has always been the rockets, which function like a rocket launcher with a quad built into the barrel of the gun.

That was a change made long before anyone in the present project was involved, since then it's much stronger and we do account for ease of use.

The original CPM did, the current settings are very different. You're right that originally CPM started off as a pretty naive rip off of QW settings in many areas. Since then the values have been assessed on their own merits. What else are you looking for responses on?

How recently have you tried CPM? The ammo changes did not work so the two that seemed to be an issue (RL and SG) were returned to their former values. Grenades, LG and rail ammo were kept at a lower level as this seems to work.

It's a shame CPM doesn't have an active league scene and wasn't just pickups/public play (And the occasional fun cup).

I think I'd have made the switch a year or so back if it had.
