and i have tried both hidusbf clone and replacing the usbport.sys

hidusbf work in vista x64 (since it work in XP x64 - and nothing change) - but ONLY with disabled driver signature enforcement.

Since I wanted to change the polling rate of USB ports in Vista 64 bit too and found a solution, I'll post it in here in case someone's going to face the same issue:

Download the Driver Signature Overrider at http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=dseo and then use this usbport.sys file and replace the original one.

k well I've been breaking my head all afternoon trying to get hidusbf working in vista x64 ultimate sp1... some ppl have said "it works" without any further details, and the readme said it was tested, etc but had no specific instructions. so.... i tried using the NTX64 hidusbf as well as the AMD64 one, and it didn't work. whenever i would install the driver and restart with setup my mouse would disappear and i would have to use keyboard to uncheck filter on device and restart again. I did it with UAC disabled and driver signature enforcement overrider. I have seen the threads that show how to replace usbport.sys and all, and I was tempted that but I am really hesitant because I have a usb keyboard and webcam and I don't want to mess them up. I'd rather do my mouse specifically.

so, my question is... has anyone actually gotten hidusbf to work under vista x64 ultimate sp1 and can they provide detailed instructions on how they did it. thanks :)

@marcus: yes - it's working... here is short instruction.

1. Download this program Driver Signature Overrider and put your windows into test mode.

2. Restart computer and run windows in safe mode.

3. Change your usbport.sys to one you want (500Hz/1000Hz) and restart windows.

4. Now you have to run DSO program again and choose 'Sign a System FIle' - enter the whole path to usbport.sys file like this: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\usbport.sys and then restart windows again.

5. Enjoy with 500Hz/1000Hz smooth mouse.

i got it! until reading your post i never thought about using 'sign a system file' under safe mode and then trying hidusbf. that is probably why it wasn't working. i didn't want to use a patched usbport.sys (which makes 500/1000hz for ALL usb ports, instead of just for mouse) then i read your post and remembered that when i tried to install hidusbf.sys windows said the driver needed to be signed. this is how i did it:

1.run DSEO, and set it to test mode
2.restart in safe mode
3.load up hidusbf/setup.exe, click install service
4.use DSEO to sign a system file: c:\windows\system32\drivers\hidusbf.sys
5.put a check in filter on mouse in hidusbf setup
6.set to 500hz or 1000hz which ever you want
7.click restart
8.check mouserate.exe to ensure you are running at desired refresh!

use this method if you only want to overclock your mouse and nothing else to avoid damaging your hardware.

There is actually no need to install hidusbf in safe mode.
You may simply put Vista into TestMode by DSEO, reboot, install hidusbf service (and system32\drivers\hidusbf.sys file) by Setup.exe, make test sign of hidusbf.sys by DSEO, then link hidusbf to you mouse and "restart" in Setup.exe

i'll try this, because nothing else has worked. Do you know if this requires booting into safe mode every time? Or just when you first set it up?

This requires no booting into safe mode at all. Read my previous post carefully.
P.S. I test under Vista x64 RTM. May be Vista x64 SP1 prevents _install_ nonsigned driver (not only loading), but this unlikely. If anybody can test under Vista x64 SP1 - this will be good.

P.P.S. There is more simple and _right_ way to use DSEO functionality:
1. Switch Vista into TestMode by DSEO and reboot.
2. Test sign DRIVER\AMD64\hidusbf.sys from unpacked HIDUSBF.ZIP by DSEO.
3. After that you may process hidusbf installation by usual way.

No need to hack any drivers or fuck around.
Just download this program, which adds a simple service that keep your mouse at wanted frequency:

The Program changes only mouse rate, not touching other devices on USB.

HIDUSBF is NOT work under "raw" Vista 64, since it driver not signed.
There is two possible common methods of loading unsigned drivers under Vista 64: global disabling of driver signature enforcement or test sign mode. Both can applied to HIDUSBF.SYS and discussed above.

The problem is, either you have to keep it in test mode (which shows that "safe mode" waterwark on your desktop at all times, or manually press F8 while booting and disabling device signing.

Both of which are unacceptable for me :(

is there any way to remove acceleration in vista? i mean without using "safe mode" or disabling device signing.

Too bad there isn't a nice solution for this (at least not for me). I'm running Vista Ultimate SP1 x64 (w/ all updates) and long story short, my MX518 stops functioning (unless) I sign the system32\DRIVERS\hidusbf.sys file, which works pretty good if you stay in TEST MODE, but as soon as you leave TEST MODE Windows detects the driver isn't a "true" signed driver and the mouse locks up again.

I don't really wanna enable TEST MODE forever, so this solution isn't very viable.

Guess there is really no other way around it. Oh well...

Wowww. Calm down, there are more plus sides to 64 bit than 32 in the long run. such as allowing more RAM, better utilization of hardware bandwidth and software.

And the 'test mode' should work, its working for me, perfectly, and the only problem with the 'test mode' is it has some watermarks on the desktop, in the corners and the top ( Hardly noticelable). You should try following the instructions again, to see if you missed out any crucial steps.

Yup it totally fucked me over for a few hours, both my mx518 and usb keyboard stopped responding completely.

To make things worse, windows refused to start up normally or restore previous configuration because I set it to boot in safe mode in msconfig initially to "save" time when I tried this.

Eventually missioned it by climing hands first into my garage ceiling by swinging legs up whilst holding onto beams then pulling myself up to get an old PS2 keyboard that was stored there.

Then had to backtrack everything using the shitty keyboard to install old usbport.sys.

Since I'd invested so much time fixing this fucking mess I eventually managed to get the 500Hz polling PROVIDED I leave test mode on.

Total bender like. DO NOT try this unless you have a PS2 keyboard to hand to save yourself after the first reboot, and willing to have test mode written in several places on your windows desktop permanently....

i had this same problem, and my motherboard has no PS2 ports
