hay
so im going there soonish (wont say when because i dont want to be killed by you crazy americunts!!11) and i was just wondering what i should do/see that isnt in the typical tourist books?
Ok first of all do get an hotel in Manhattan (I would suggest south of central park but not right next to times square because traffic's a b**** around there) because you don't want to spend ages to get in and out of Manhattan every day. If you're going to NY then you're there to enjoy it. The best areas to go out are imo in the south of the island, like the meatpacking district, you have great restaurants there. When I go to NY, at night I usually go to a club called "Marquee", it's full of nice girls and the crowd isn't too old (21-26 I would say). Also they have several rooms and the DJs are great. You have to dress properly though, but the italian guy at the entrance (if it's still him) isn't too bad, unless you're with a lot of guys and no girls but even then it's possible to get in.
Museums: the met and the moma are must-sees, guggenheim also. There are some beautiful art galleries in the south of manhattan so I would suggest visiting them if you're into contemporary art. Anyway I don't want to make this too long so a good guide is the lonely planet.
lucky you!
got that as a xmas present right?
btw for 200bucks you can visit NY from an helicopter, dont miss that, and dont forget to bring your camera.
hf link,
ye :)
and i wanna go on that heli ride! my parents wanted to last time they were there but the weather was too shitty.. lets hope its better this time around : ).
nah never been there but friends of mine went there last year when i was in dk, and they told me it's quite a awesome city actualy but very expensive.. but sweden is expensive aswell
Mainly just the big ones: FAO Schwartz and the museum of natural history. Sony used to have a cool tech exhibit thing (like 6+ years ago), but I don't know if it's still around. The whole city makes you feel very tiny, and messes with your FOV. =(
- see if you can get a good hotel via www.priceline.com , friends of mine just came back from nyc and they got a really nice hotel for not a lot of money right in manhattan. check out this board to get an idea.
- here's a good page for bus schedules etc: http://www.hopstop.com/?city=newyork
- sometimes you can find clubs/bars etc that have booze specials/open bars going on on this page.
- check out hotels in new jersey (just make sure they're not in elizabeth or so), you can get on the train and go to manhattan within minutes. usually it's a lot cheaper on the other side of the river.
- don't get a rental car except if you wanna go "outside" the metropolitan nyc area, you can go pretty much everywhere by bus/subway/train.
- go to hoboken, nj at night and check out the skyline. there are a few nice bars right on the water.
- stay south of E 96th St in Manhattan if you wanna stay out of trouble (spanish harlem).
- if the statue of liberty is still closed (it was two years ago when I went there) don't bother paying for those ferries that go to the island, just hop on the staten island ferry which passes right by the statue of liberty and it's free.
- if you're interested in sports, go see old yankee stadium before it's being demolished next year (take the 4 subway to 161st st).
- if you like hockey go see a rangers game at madison square garden!
i'm moving to the area in two weeks, i'm looking forward to it. i hope it's gonna be a lot of fun up there.
enjoy your trip :)

They have a pretty cool exhibition down in south street seaport manhattan with about 20 bums(!) they carved up, and showing up organs and all that stuff. Was pretty interesting but massive, i felt for puking after i been there. http://www.bodiesny.com/
