He got disqualified and banned from that competition. That's the fair punishment. Then he was publicly humiliated for weeks. That's way more than the fair punishment for making a mistake once. Fair punishment is what he got. There's no other punishment with any meaning than getting thrown out of the community for cheating. It's exceedingly doubtful it was a one time mistake, this was just the first time he was stupid enough to screenshot it. That's why he got so much mockery because he hoisted himself with the screenshot then make ludicrous threats of legal action as mocked by this thread. That you're also Spanish is the only reason you're defending him, otherwise you'd find it as hilariously stupid as everyone else does.

That I am Spanish has nothing to do with the case. I didn't defend him when he cheated and I won't defend him now. As I said in my first comment, don't let my flag fool you. When the cheating thread happened I said it was clear cheating since the first second, he acted like a idiot trying to deny what was obvious, and I say more, the attitude of most Spaniards who signed up for defending him was no less than embarassing. What I post now here isn't a defense to Sombra, a person I don't know nor care about, but a comment about what I consider an unnecesarily bad taste joke. You're both right, but let me explain my reasoning. I've been around gaming communities for a long time, now, having dealt with all kinds of bullshit and idiocy. That's a pretty common thing, Sombra's attitude. However, even after being pinned to the wall and faced with obvious facts, not many people can say 'sorry'. Nearly no one ever does. My respect would come out of having witnessed a display of humility. Maybe i'm naive and gullible, but i believe in second chances and honesty in apologies, so those simple five letters would make all the difference for me.

And what makes you think that his apology would be sincere? It's not like cheaters have any morals to begin with. Not gonna change after they're caught.

Aa for racism, most teams in EU are multinational by now and so is the community. There are hardly any isolated communities except if there are ping issues. Mocking neighboring countries has been tradition before Zeus fucked the princess. So I dare say we are hardly more racistic than the average European.

That's the thing. I think this is probably one of the more diverse sites, but I don't think it represents the whole very well. Perhaps this is a good Quake 3 and gaming news for SC website, but QW, Q2, Defrag, and all the other various mods of Q3 that are niche (besides CPM) don't really come here for the community.

Also, there's a HUGE Russian community that just doesn't visit this site at all. Why should they? They've got their own sites.

What I meant to say is that the community isn't just one base group, but a bunch of groups playing over a range of mods/games in different parts of the world.

The players of mods that don't come here aren't Q3 players as such they are MODX players which just happens to be on Q3.

I don't think anyone considers ESR the quake community though. It's generally accepted as the international Q3 community though (or competitive VQ3/CPM if you want).

I know for sure noone can hit 60% lg+rg for more than 40 minutes with a scoreboard ping varying between 60 and 120 ms (which probably means way worse spikes as far as real ping is concerned, especially since it was his father downloading).
That's just to name the most obvious example that comes to my mind. I was there, I played the whole game, it was ridiculous.

There have been plenty of proofs back when he started playing online. He would play thefou or Kirua and get raped with barely 25% with each weapon, then next map, in that childish way of his (too much Saint Seiya I believe), he would turn on his hacks and say "ok now I'm angry", his aim would improve by 15% or more with each weapon, and they would have a hard time beating him despise strenx not even controlling the map or anything. And with that shitty conn of his too...

That's not to mention plenty of fishy things we got to witness no matter the mod/gametype...
The most famous example probably beeing that once on ctf2 where he was coming back to his base, made a full 360° rail in hand to check what was going on middle, and in the middle of his full turn, without a stop or anything, a rail was shot and he killed someone. It was avi'd at some point but I'm not sure it's available anywhere anymore.
You could barely see the guy at normal speed, at slowmo you could indeed see someone mostly hidden by a pillar, who had just taken the railgun jumppad, and there's no way he could have intended that rail, it was 100% autoshoot.

I've said plenty of times how good hacks were to train one's aim, it's no wonder he aims so well now.
I'm pretty sure he used hacks online for more than 2 years, and he did that several hours a day, playing loads of 1on1's, CTF pickups, TDM pickups and public RA3 games at the same time.
Anyone with that kind of training would have become a good Q3 deathmatch player with a superior hitscan aim, especially someone that young.

Good for him if he can win games without cheating nowadays.

Haven't you ever watched demos of good players to see how they play, realizing this and that is possible, how they track with LG, how they anticipate with RL or PG, and so on ?

Are you kidding me ? Bots DO anticipate. They can even deal with lag and you can hit 60% PG with OGC without a problem.

Hacks have "humanized aim" now, which I believe to be something similar to mouse smoothing, to avoid weird mouse movements.
Not sure though, didn't bother testing anything since OGC.

There you go, the quality is shit and not everything in there is fishy ; but there are definitely a few actions worth a look. :)
Keep in mind all of this is with OSP's netcode, not CPMA, and that his connection was shit at the time.

I guess it's possible a bot can help you learn proper dodging since you don't have to focus on aim at all. you can learn the exact position of the crosshair whie doing the correct strafing moves to avoid being hit. but doing it witout a bot where you actually have to do the tracking.. dunno--

Mind you, I'm not saying he learnt *everything* thanks to hacking. I'm not even saying he couldn't have become a good player without hacking. :)

I'm just pretty sure hacking's more than helping when it comes to pure aiming training, and everyone has been saying how aiming and especially his LG is precisely strenx's strength.

Of course this is RA3 1on1 with jumppads and all, but those were still pretty damn good stats, especially with such a connection.
When I met him a while later on LAN - the first he went to, IIRC - he couldn't even maintain 50% in the long run with LG in the exact same arena, on 0 ms. He tried hard tho, you gotta give him that : there was a lot of jumppad LG involved. :P

Ah well, there are tons of examples anyway, and there's definitely no doubt in my mind. :)
I've been playing Quake for more than 10 years, began Q3 around 2000, and from the tip of my head I can only name a handful of players of which I'm sure they used hacks - bar a few more public server cunts.
I don't call anyone a cheater lightly, I need more than just a couple weird shots, I got to be 100% sure.
A good way to do that is to try hard explaining everything that you see : good use of sound with a good headset, spam, luck, exceptional aiming, etc - weird things can happen without any hack involved, and players you've never heard of can have a pretty damn good aim, tracking and reaction time (most of the time that would be because they've been practising and became good on another shooter).
The few guys I'm pretty sure used hacks are c6p0 (french CTF player), sisqo (dutch RA3 player), kazama (spanish RA3 player), and strenx.
I've heard of a few more but never bothered checking or wasn't really convinced.

And in the case of strenx, as hard as I've tried, I've stopped doubting long ago.

also I've just watched his game against link1n in the french finals. if it wasn't lan I'd be 99% convinced he hacks. I've also paid particular attention on the way he aims, his crosshair barely moves, it's like he tracks PERFECTLY with his strafe aim and only uses mouse for very slight adjustments. ie. it looks exactly like a bot.

of course you can't just use strafe you also have to correct it with the mouse movement, but he somehow manages to keep it to a complete minimum. you can only tell it's not a bot by the reaction time needed to actually move the mouse, and when he got killed he was put out of his aimbot mode a few times where it actually looked like regular movement/aim. he very soon got back into it tho.

either he discovered a new philosophy of aim by himself but most likely it's like you said - he learned it by using a bot.

I can tell for sure it was not over just a few minutes though, a lot of ra3 players have done that kind of way over the top stats over 5 minutes, it's meaningless.

I believe the demo (or video) was released 2002, demos from that time are mostly purged from the site, unfortunately. After it being acknowledged he was banned from the CTF tournament.
