I can only be multi talented to 99% of the worldwide population of a genre. It still means I am open to being beaten by a few 100 at whatever genre I major in, its good I guess but I don't really think much of it as a true gamer only wants to be top 8 and that way of life/commitment is just not fun when you get past early 20's.

And jsut for the record I did used to beat Draven in quake 3 and quake 4 :). But I stopped and he got a lot better and now he rapes me. Which is what happens, you become out of sync, still good by the common mans definitonyou understand, but way off this pace.

But I mean even really good players in quake get beat badly, its quite uninspiring, the score system can be pretty brutal as it does not always do a good job of showing the skill between players, that's why dirving games and fighting games are more fun, my contention is that contrary to the popular belief the binary type system in quake is one of the reasons why its not taking off.

if it had a more progressive measurement it would change the gameplay and the common mans perception of how good or bad they really are. Cos no one wants to be 30 nilled.

Also a good object lesson about what happens when you allow a top five, world-class player to:
-mount an offense without ANY pressure.
-play in a +forward-flow mode, firing shots from movement-based positioning.
-move about free from forced defensive play and ANY punishment for armor/mega gathering.
-camp spawn points and exploit all the map's strong angles and pov's with a calm, unhurried aim.

Hear ya there..I do watch some ctf/tdm vods, but for duels, I go through the cumbersome process of d/l'ing the demo to the right folder, renaming the file to something shorter, loading up a ql prac session, then /demo'ing it in the console.

Yes, it does 80 dmg, but since like everyone can hit +45% rails games tend to usually be like one player has stack advantage and by overusing rail he makes sure that it wont wear off, because the one losing cant make him really hurt, because the one winning can just keep the distance and get those easy rail hits over and over again....

just think that if railguns loadtime would be 10% longer and railgun ammo would be capped to 5 or 8. How much overuse would happen? I think none, but even after that big nerf railgun would be one of the most used weapons in QL..

add the horrible netcode into the mix where it's impossible to miss and voilà

Yep, demos are indeed quite shit because they don't show rails (or mg, lg etc) when you really hit them.

Less than what people make it out to be, but sure. I just play on 64ms more or less always and aim on people (very rarely infront, never ever behind) and mostly hit so am happy. My very, very little 37ms experience on our lovely SE#2 servers that crash mid-game every time indicate that something might be wonky with the rail, but it might also be me not used to it so I'm just not gonna pretend to know.

But I do know about the demo issue since I've played Soldier of Fortune 2 (same engine, unlagged in a way that seems to work similarly) and seen the exact same thing since 2002. Track a guy perfectly on your screen, be way behind (though oddly perfectly in the behindness*) on the demo, everyone thinks you have the reflexes of an 80 year old.

Sure I have and I still think that happening occasionally is better than everyone above 32ms always having to aim in front of the enemy. If not for the lag, you'd have gotten hit before you were around the corner anyway so just "annoying" is exactly what it is.

On topic it was a nice demo, enjoy watching with shoutcast more though (especially with 2gd) so wish it was easier (can't complain about price) to get the high quality ESL stream.

Fox did something similar in an online tournament with Spartie a few years back. I remember "Hub" being played in that tournament and the trusty old Fox coming through and really showing his experience. As if he should be placed in a higher tier than the other players.

Shortly after the online tournament a lan tournament was upon us. Fox didn't fare as well playing with the big boys.

Maybe because he's so fickle about computers, mice and monitors? I don't know.
