i run at 100hz even though i can do 120hz. you're not going to notice the difference.

having a yellow screen, on the other hand, is going to be rather noticeable.

120 is the bare minimum unless you are running vsync.

I notice a huge difference going from 100>120>150 with vsync off.

Well if I spend whole day by PC on 100Hz then at the end of it my eyes will have enough, on 120Hz they will be still fine. As for visible difference in performance, I can tell that something changed when I switch to 100Hz, but I dont feel less comfortable because of it.

I always thought 120hz was fine, but after playing with 160hz for months and then going back to 120, 120 looked and felt horrible! it looked really jerky to my eyes was hard to look at the screen, it reminded me of how the old 60hz crts used to be

after a while you get used to and adapt to any setup, its the same as everything, that's not my point here before anyone talks shit

basically the more hz, the better on a CRT, 100hz just like 60hz or a ball mouse or slow CPU is playable once you get used to it, but it's much harder on the eyes and the game won't feel as nice to play

What CRT are you using 160Hz with? And on what resolution?

i get 160hz at 800x600 with my NEC Multisync FE992

The highest refresh rate u can get on CRTs is 200 HZ afaik. Is anybody so nerdy to play with that setting?

If you use a CRT why not settle for 21" and better specs? They are practically for free now if you don't mind a pre-used one, I got a sony off of ebay for 1€, runs 800x600@170Hz :))

which one do you have? I've got the Sony G520 and it runs with 160Hz @800*600

That's the one I have, it runs at 170 Hz also. I used a program named refreshforce to fix the refresh rate, dunno why but with XP that was the only way to be sure XP remembers the settings

CRTs are really hard to find on ebay... most of them are only local pickup! (in australia)

100hz is pretty good, UT and CS run that rate, and although there IS a difference from that to 120hz, it's not huge. You could Quake on it, and it would be pretty close to what you felt on at 120hz.

the main difference is in your head which tells you: omg I cant hit shit on 100hz. Ohh wait...I am playing on the 120hz crt :-/
