Loser:France will qualify, Odds: 44% (2.2:1)

Bets placed: E$20514, betting open: 08:35 CDT 6 Jun 2002 to 18:59 CDT 10 Jun 2002

Winner:France won't make it, Odds: 55% (1.8:1)

Bets placed: E$26299, betting open: 08:35 CDT 6 Jun 2002 to 18:59 CDT 10 Jun 2002

The situation in group A after round 2 is getting more and more intriguing - Senegal and Denmark are leading the group with 4 points and Uruguay and the defending World Champions France trail with 1 point.

Both last round's games will take place on June 11th, when Senegal take on Uruguay and Denmark meet France.

To qualify, France have to beat Denmark and they still can't be 100% sure, as if Uruguay defeats Senegal, all teams will be at 4 points and goal difference will decide the qualifying teams.

Results so far:
Senegal 1:0 France
Denmark 2:1 Uruguay
Senegal 1:1 Denmark
France 0:0 Uruguay

I always wait a few hours before I place a bet on my own fixtures. That way there is far less chance of doing any cheating or unfair odds to my own benefit IMHO.

No it's my fault actually. I coded in a check to make sure that you cannot bet on your own fixtures until 10 other people have done so. I just realised it wasn't working :). It's fixed now and I have deleted the bets.

France will beat denmark, Senegal will lose to Uraguay.

this will mean all teams finish on 4 points.

Goal difference will decide who goes thro.

On another note, my friend has bet (properly) £300 that there will be atleast 14 draws in the group stage. So far there have been 7 and were only a 3rd of the way thro the group stage !!

Yeah if they go through they will still lose to england/argentina/sweden in the next round, nobody ever retains the world cup almost and that french team certainly isnt capable especially without zidane......Germany might also go out which is funny. Go ireland go ireland

If France plays with 11 players for the whole game and doesn't have an immensely incompetent ref they'll win the game, by 2 goals.

Look at today's game :

France without Pires (big loss), Zidane (even bigger loss) and Henry (big loss) managed to dominate all game long playing 10 vs 11. If they play 11 vs 11 with Zidane back and the determination they showed today, France will definitely win by 2 goals.

And then everyone will be amazed by their willingness to compete.

actually they lost Henry coz he couldnt behave and got red card...
In addition Uruguay is not a good team and France played crappy.
I´m sure that they can do much better but Denmark is stronger than Uruguay...

the french are history, their key players are old and tired... Players like zidane who have won both the world and european championships plus the champions league...., what does he have left to play for?

Maybe france will scrape trough to the second round, but they will not go much further, there are way younger and more motivated teams out there. Ah well

they would have beat Denmark if not for that gay penalty kick............and they beat France, and they have proven that they are a solid team.

They will beat Uraguay, for sure........so i think France will be out.

But if Zidane comes back they will get a big boost, he does so much for the team.

i think (unfortunatly) france will beat denmark by more than 2 goals, but i cant see them progressing much in this competition. zidane will lift them enough for the denmark match but i dont think he will be enough when france play a strong side like argentina who they stand a good chance of facing after the group stages

A reliable source has told me that Zidane wont be playing for Denmark game, but that aint been confirmed on worldcup site, and if he is out its gona be pretty much the same team who lost for senegal, so it looks like zidane wont be playing in World Cup 2002 cuz france r goin home.

And on top of that Henry is still suspended... :p

i lost 750 X$ on Argentina-England and then another 500 X$ on Doctors - Deathtouch so I'm down a lot of money. I placed and small wager on England to beat Nigeria and my last 11 X$ that France won't make it. I think Denmark will be able to hold off a French team that will probably be pushing upfield very hard. I see Denmark getting a couple of good chances on counter-attack to the French push. This will result in a goal and France will really have its work cut out for them then to score 3 goals. I'm predicting a final of 2-1 France. I'd sure like that 19 X$. :)
