I won’t say anything bad about ESWC, WSVG and CPL despite i didn’t get some prizes.
it's incredibly naive to use the argument that competition, in perhaps the most competitive fps game of all time second to only 1.6, has no bearing on the decisions of the community.
the game was only as great as it was because of international competition. it's international competition that pushes the bar higher and brings the best out of the game. for the vast majority of players who played, they would never be in the top tier, but they loved to play, spectate and follow the top tier in all manners that they could because they know what q3 is fundamentally about.
the exact same thing happened with the whole osp cpma spiel, but in q3 the casual-lol-game community is non-existant, they are all off playing excessive plus and urban terror. in q3 the community consists of people who avidly follow and play the competitive standard. the fact is that cpl set that standard when they chose cpma, leaving the q3 players who loved their game for what it really was, and that is pure competition, no real options other than to switch.
Actually, there is no real competitive community in VQ3. QL has proven this completely. All the whiners who complained about how CPMA wasn't exactly the same thing as OSP turned around and happily accepted QL just because it has players. Nukm runs a community ESR league, and we get a small percent of ESR users even signing up, with an even smaller percent who could have even played at a level that they could even begin to complain about nuances. ESR users aren't really elitist or competitive, they just post that way.
