i'm going to start playing around with bloom tonight, will report if something good comes out of it :x

as I said on other topic, can someone take some pictures using bloom and disabling it so it really looks like a semiwallhack on borders because of glowing models, so id removes it? Example: without bloom you couldn't watch the enemy standing behind a corner, with bloom you can. If you change the settings of some bloom commands maybe the bloom effect is bigger.

Also I hope someone plays with those settings in order to have grey (not black and white like the first picture) quake maps but regular models, weapons and items (not glowing, with colors...or just a bit). The idea is to get a painkiller-looking quakelive, or like quake2 with some engines (r1gl or aprq2)

No, they can't because it's not possible.

you can get a rather grey'ish quake with r_overbrightbits 0 and r_mapoverbrightbits 5-6 (and r_ignorehwgamma 0?). i'll try to figure out if bloom makes it better.

i don't think you can do semi-wh stuff with it atleast it'll not be of more help than r_shadows already is .)

Bloom is a post processing effect, meaning it's applied after the image is drawn.

You have to already be seeing the enemy for the glow to happen, it won't happen round corners.

I find your profile picture highly disturbing.

I've played around with the settings a bit and ended up turning it off again. I've tried to get only the enemymodel a little brighter but this doesn't work and as I heard probably won't ever. Other than that, having bloom turned on, my eyes started to bleed instantly. I don't wanna know how much time id put into this, but ultimateley it's only good for the casual players or moviemakers imo. but we'll see. I'm curious as to whether some pro players will use it.
