Yes, both are linked and the existence of a rain forest can also change the local climate, but the important connection is: If you have a lot of rain you can get a rain forest.

Through the global climate and winds and also geographics you have certain areas where it rains more than others. This is where rainforests can emerge. (Also other factors play a role!)

I think, you are mixing things up a bit, heavily rainfalls in otherwise very dry areas wash away the soil, especially when there is a lack of vegetation.
And yes, soil can be washed in areas with lots of rain, too. But they won't become a desert because of that.

maybe I am mixing up things, but my point was that without the rain forest there won't be much rain besides the monsoon, because the rain forest was creating that rain. at least uprooting by burning will make rain forests to deserts, because the monsoon will wash the sometines thin layer of soil away.

Actually, afair, the soil in rain forests is already bad the ashes of burning fertilizes it, though.
Which of course can be washed away by rain.
If you look at picture of burn and slash clearances that are a bit older you will find there are always already a few new, green plants growing.

Sure, burning an entire rain forest will change the local climate and also the level of precipitation, I never denied that. But it will not turn into a second Ethiopia or a desert.
