There's only a hand full of people who are actually good at the game, mainly the Brazilians, so if your country has a qualifier, you can most likely make it to the national final (free trip, at least in USA), and then you get money or nice prizes if you get top 3 depending on your country, not counting the trip to the grand final.
I think it was WCG 2007, there was an amazing shot made by the winner of the event, go check it out in the VOD section at WCG.com, it was pretty much the only cool thing about that Carom tournament.
" Update: We have received many comments regarding this list missing your favorite games including StarCraft and FIFA. This announcement represents the first group of game titles slated for the WCG 2010 competitions, and does not cover all of the games which will be featured this year. WCG is in the process of considering all of the game titles that the gamers and the fans recommend. Please stay tuned to WCG.com for additional game titles announcement."
How do you guys expect a tournament like WCG to do anything with Quake Live?
Without LAN servers, what are the regional partners going to do? Because I doubt id wants to send someone to 60 or 70 qualifiers around the world to set everything up...
they could make a sort of national lan qualifications in the city where the servers are hosted to play with ping ~10ms, in frankfurt for germany, in paris for france and so on...
There's really no reason why you wouldn't put SC in the first announcement. SC2 is too far away. Even if it was released in the meantime it's too young.
And of course no Quake = fucked but that was expected. No SC is really disturbing, and Tekken? How about SF4 please.
I think their thinking behind it was that with SC2 being "released" (that is, beta anyway), they didn't want to put SC1 in incase there was a newer version.
Still, seems a bit silly since if SC2 was released intime for WCG10, most of the players would be pretty naabish
That said, I'd expect SC1 to be put in soon. Looks like they're contemplating it. Quake doesn't look likely though :P
What is <shit game> doing on the list? WCG is a joke lol. Not even <favorite game> or <second favorite> are on the list... What is the world coming to?
I don't care about CS, but good for esports it's still on the list.
Happy to see wc3. Sad about no SC(but that will probably change), Street Fighter or Quake. Also the majority of the other games are jokes, but that's standard for WCG. No CnC4 is a plus.
