When I go to play, I want to play, not wait some asshole warm up because he thinks some random pub game is eswc finals. Exactly like c1 said, usually warm up means feeding the cat, talking 20 minutes on phone with your mother, taking out the trash, installing new mouse and display drivers, closing bittorrent software as soon as that one important download is over in 13 minutes, opening your door to your friends who came to visit you, getting pizza from the oven, and then they have to leave because their connection is borked/hd swaps/etc

Sometimes ppl use warmup to see whether or not you're better than them, and then they quit after 10 min of warmup because they feel they'd lose. It's annoying as hell. I don't see why it should take you more than one or two minutes maximum to warmup for a random internet game...

i mean, i would never blame anyone who writes, "gimme a min, first game today". but in my experience people who dont ready up anytime soon usual dont answer when you ask them "can we start soon?" and often they disconnect after 5min when they feel they will lose. (or maybe they never intended to actually play)
anyway, these idioits have wasted so much of my time that it really annoys me by now

as people have mentioned, some people are happy with just jumping around in warmup shooting like its some pointless CA game, so just don't let them :p stand still and see if they ready up or not, if not just quit.

warmup is what the first 2 minutes of the game is for, the remaining 8 is for getting back what you lost in the first 2.

when i arrive to a server i just say "lo" or sth and press f3, i was born ready :/
also, from my experience, if after 1 min the guy is not ready yet, he'll either disconnect or never rup + never leave the server

use a countdown warmup like all q4 militia mp games. also good for slow pc`s to loadup the map and connect

If you want to warmup you should really just run around an empty server BEFORE HAND, you can't expect warmed up people to hang around 5-10 mins while you get your shit together.

if the other guy readies up after a few sec i just press f3 as well.. remember that players you play may have already played few matches..and in 5 matches, if every one of them would jump around for 5 mins, its 25min/2,5 game wasted..

I find that after not playing for weeks at a time, which is pretty much always for me, it's better to just rup and be done with it. I've never been one of those people that just find it in the first couple minutes, or matches actually, so running around for aim's sake would just make that more apparent and discourage.

As far as waiting for others to rup, I don't. I'll give a minute or two, unless it's someone I know, ask once to rup and disconnect if they don't. Don't have time for bullshit, especially in a video game.

You waited there for all that time it was the location u would prefer to play on might not be another and then ur forced to leave, search another server and repeat process again do this enough and u aren't even in the mood to play anymore.

No we aren't afraid of losing but simply tired of wasting 2-4 mins before every single fucking game. Whenever I'm playing I want as many matches as possible. Warmup offers me no experince at all and are therefore an utterly waste of my time.

I liked a minute or two warm up, plus its a decent gauge to how good my opponent is and wether i have to be switched on straight from the spawn.

I've never quit during a warmup tho, if i think my opponent is better i'll still play.

People who do quit during warmups(and in general) piss me off and only care about there win/loss ratio. I don't give a shit about my stats (well i do about my acc but that sucks anyway..)

this is my quake live experience summarised in several points

- quake live displays 1/6, i join the server and it's 4/6 and 2 players are 3 minutes into their duel (FFS, the server browser is so god damn slow)

- quake live displays 2/6 with 30 seconds remaining in the previous duel, i join and they say "FUCK OFF I PLAY WITH FRIEND".

- quake live displays 0/6, i join, someone else joins and refuses to ready, there are then 1 of 5 scenarios;
1) they don't say anything and i eventually have to /quit
2) they say "hi, 2minutes please", 10 minutes later they /ready, or 10 minutes later they /quit.
3) they don't sat anything and they quit after i rape them in warmup mode
4) they join, they /ready and then they quit after i kill them twice in 30 seconds. Usually they then respond with "JOIN OWN SKILL SERVER" (wtf... you joined me mate).
5) they join and go AFK

Solution? ID Software should just add 1 minute of warmup, that's plenty of time for peoples lack of brain to figure out how to hold their silly little mouse correctly. I quite frankly do not give a shit if i beat you, or you beat me in duel, it's not the CPL final. All i ask is that you don't waste my time because of your insecurities.

Yeah, something like that. If I'm playing with a friend I'm usually just messing around anyway, and will stop playing for a moment to tell someone who just joined that I'll be leaving after the current game.

When I haven't had someone to play with ahead of time (like you and your friend, who I assume is butcher :P ), I've always had to wait. Usually it's only a few minutes, but it's still annoying when they d/c right away.

Some people warm up to test their opponents, if its not looking like a deffo win they will quit.

Best thing to do is play a CA or FFA to warm up so you can jump in soon as u connect.

If you want to warmup, go to a ffa/ca/instagib server or play with bots. People on duels servers want to play a full match, not screwing around in warmup.

If the opponent does not even reply to a "hi" or sth. like that it is usually a good indication that he a) wont' ready up, b) quit during warmup or c) quit if he is not in the lead.

Might not be true for everyone but from the duels I played it fits about 80% of the time, so I guess I will just quit in warmup if the opponent does not respond and save me some annoyance.
