It's been about the recent bump of the EG masters cup post, "allowed by xou", which I've been making some critical remarks about in that very thread. And similarly about ESWC some time ago.

I guess he's just put me in a category, the likely reason why he qualified my harmless little joke above as trolling.

Although, amongst us, I'm still stunned by slasher's "bumping allowed by xou" reasoning. That's like my brother telling me "mom allowed me to eat your ice cream". There's not a single detail in that sentence why it could make sense that mom allowed that. Instead, it tells me that I'm now facing two idiots instead of one.

But try to tell them that.

Did he even play vs cypher on major lan (plz don't mention asus cups)?
AFAIR, he played 4 times vs av3k with 2 losses (dreamhack and iem euro) and 2 wins (iem world), and 2 times vs rapha with 1 win & 1 loss. So it's pretty much 50/50.

xgo would have exact same problems with flight. we only have one airport.

this happens if you are not really interested to attend the event and you start organizing thing in last days. also our local eswc qualifier organizer didn't help much and was not reachable to pay for expenses until a day or two ago when it was already too late.

Ahh, I was sort of being sarcastic in saying that $500 is sweet FA. Whilst I'm sure its probably a decent amount for a 16 year old or something, it really adds nothing and makes "e-sports" look like a hand out.

Quake Live is already getting way more then it deserves considering how many viewers it gets. In these circumstances top 3 is fine.

yes i'm very sure, atleast on IRC there's several (10-15) people spamming saying they're on virgin, and now livestream works fine for me, whereas own3d lq or hq doesn't work, i've had this shit before with them it's definetley something they can change on their end, i remember it at some previous event.

I can't play for shit on a different height table than I'm used to, so I can't imagine a different entire setup (aside from mouse/keyboard/headset).

if you want to stream an event, or gtv you have to have a connection to internet. and if the guys want in, they get in.

But ofc, we could just set up a q3 server, close off internet, upload the streams 1 week after the event, and view demos after the event is over. that would be the safest, ofc.

still, the question was online LAN vs no LAN servers.
my point is eswc don't care enough to contact id about setting up the lan servers.

nah i mean that ppl always talk about e-sports, professionalism and stuff but are not even able to improvise:

for q3: why not play offline, make spectator pov demo, send demo to streamers or gtv dudes immediately after the map is over
that gives us (the spectators) the "almost live" pov and reduces the trouble organizers might have with fags doing attacks on the network :)

for ql: same but no lan-only servers and no gtv ..

Or you can play your game with your Q3 on LAN only, connect a GTV on the lan server and allow the GTV to stream online.
The only DDOS available is on GTV, players won't notice a thing as their server is on the local network and not connected to internet.
That was one of the first purpose of GTV, letting the players be on the server, connect a GTV and don't allow anyone else to connect so they aren't bothered with potential connection lags etc...
But i guess today's people just lack the skill to do these really hard things... it's faster to look for some decent internet setup... just connect your Wifi USB key and grab the McDo connection :D

Oh look, a bunch of people acting like they know everything about something, when they know nothing.

I got to see how the LAN servers are run first hand at DEVASTATION. It's not pretty, or easy. It took them a day and a half just to get the LAN servers working. Why? Because there's a lot of things that have to be done with it, I won't get into technical stuff, but ID has to connect to the computer running the LAN server, and 'activate' it.

DEVASTATION got the LAN servers finally working, and everything was ready to be activated by ID. So what happened? ID couldn't activate the servers. Why? It was a Saturday, and no was was there.

okay, i was thinking about private servers... but in theory spawning a lan server on your machine, would be even cheaper than spawning a private server on a remote machine supported by id, so i think 50$ is still a high price for the service..

its not like id has to mantain and rent the lan servers, as they have with remote private servers..

and for ID 50$ is also nothink, considering the amount of big lan events in ql.. its a pathetic sum that would mean nothink to ID, so I think its in the interest of everyone, even id, to make LAN servers available to all common mortals who play this game by having a justifiable small fee..

The last time you commentated CS it was just as annoying and a lot of people were complaining on gotFrag. fine, but still his losses were easily avoidable in my opinion. giving up on ztn early wasn't a great idea in an all-or-nothing bo3, and on dm13 he just made a few really poor decisions that gave noctis unneeded frags and control. replaying a match might not be fun or cool stuff in a tournament, but he clearly beat himself there.

What's the point of rematches after the game is played? Basically k1llsen gave noctis a free chance to win first (because if noctis had won the first set there wouldn't have been a rematch). Then noctis lost and that's because a rematch was played. He should have taken a timeout during the match and say something, not after.

tbh the only reason cooller gets away with his shit attitude is because he's cooller (and in this case also because it was directed at strenx). If any other player acted like he does (sore loser, blames bad luck all the time, no respect for a lot of his opponents...) the community would be very critical of that player. I don't know, I used to support Cooller a lot and I still love watching him play but he can't even say "gg" after a game? He has to say "suck it"?

you cant do both. you can switch constantly between them (wich is what we mostly do) but unless A and B dont add up both will be hindered.

its pretty much like watching soccer - unless youre a nerd at it the occasional accompanying commentary will help your perception. a clueless guy sitting next to you babbling clueless stuff wont. he will distract you :P

yeah i heard of it.. actually i once had a seminar where this was partly adressed and the conclusion of the matter was, that you cannot supress perceptions fully - was smth about hearing music while learning for exams etc.

but aside from that.. the necessity to supress 10+ minutes of babbling for watching quake is what us neysayers are all about right now

but God knows how many calculations cooller did before he tries it. The angle of the drop, the shaft damage he will take, the damage he will give, the health boost from the mega, the suprised reactions of strenx and the drop in his accuracy, the speed of air etc

He also probably visualized what will happen in the next minutes, if he doesn’t drop and show himself losing.

This is why Cooller is so much more praised compared to e.g. rapha: when rapha rapes his opponents it's kinda expected and 30 minutes after his games you don't even remember what they were about, but Cooller, even with weaker opponents, he can make some stupid mistake that gives control to the opponent and opportunity to tie up the scores, and then he will keep spectators in almost unbearable nervous tension until the very end when he wins by making a "wtf how he did that??!?!?!?!!" move and finish it off by an epic chat line that will be remembered for years.

Once again I'm tempted to make a 100 line post on how fucking bad this whole community is.

On one side, you have the main meat around the bone, the players. They are mostly self-centered little cunts who think they are the best gamers on earth and usually come off as down syndrome tourrette afflicted retards whenever given the chance to say something. Eternal 15 year olds.

On the other side you have the entrepreneurs/amateurs who try to make this game worthy of attention, but fail repeatedly at the most basic details. Shit stream, bad synchro, and newly in, everyone speaks on top of each other over the mic and make a fucking mess.

And now since the arrival of QL, you also have the producer/game creator pitching in, fucking preventing the very soul of the game ( without official tournaments , Quake would be absolutely dead by now ) to function properly by making it harder to host a LAN game than shaking the Queen of England's hand....

I agree to a lot what you say. I've been following and taking part occasionally in this so called eSport the last 12 years.

Without going into detail, but my general view of how things look and where they seem to be headed is so bad. I don't even know where to begin so I will leave it with saying, I'm to tired to rage and know for sure that even if me or someone else would say something awesome I think it's to late. Still fun to play casual from time to time. But the pro scene deserves so much more, and so does the audience.

Why would everyone think that? There are a lot of posts complaining about the shoutcasting and more specifically Thorin interrupting Slasher all the time. Slasher wrote a post in the levelup thread showing he was paying attention to the criticism/suggestions, yet Thorin is apparently incapable of doing the same (in fact he just [+]'d you for saying zar4 was retarded for criticizing his shoutcasting). I honestly would prefer a stream without Thorin on it, and if he keeps shoutcasting I think the least he could do is stop interrupting the other guys all the time... Does that make me retarded too?

If you're going to reply to posts from elsewhere in the thread you might as well use the "reply" button on those posts. In that comment I was obviously not asking you to change your accent, I was saying I wished you stopped casting. That part was not criticism aimed at helping you improve your casting, it was me voicing my opinion that the stream would be better without you talking.

At no point in time was this any kind of real or reasonable debate about the content of my comments, that's already a foregone conclusion as they are all "obvious" or "dribbler material". I do not understand why the killsen/noctis match was replayed.
If there really was that much lag, why did they even start and then play two complete maps?
I wonder if there would have been a rematch if noctis had won the first game...

Dear casters: never try to cast with more than 2 casters.
Honestly, imo it would be the best if there was no casting at all during the match.
I really liked the "prematch-coverage" though, Slasher and nvc had a good knowledge of the players and their performance in past tournaments.

The admins didn't have anything against K1llsen. You can call those 2 games a sort of accidental play because no one would've known how bad it (lag + spike shit) was if it wasn't for these 2 guys stepping in and literally proving it.

I do feel sorry for K1llsen though, but it's unfair to call the admins biased towards noctis. It's the bullshit circumstances created due to id's we-don't-give-a-fuck attitude that forced these people to play in such conditions in the first place.

indeed. that match reply should have not happen if the game was already played.

We all know Quake is all about concentration and mental preparation and when someone tells you that u have to reply the game u already won... well, u will be pretty much in bad position mentally to start that other game.

So basically, maybe that decision to restart the match wasn`t biased but did a great deal of damage to guy who had to play the game that he already won (in this case k1llsen) again and in 95% cases this would be match lost even with someone else in k1llsen`s spot.

Mentally u r not prepared to be fucked over like he was.

And no, I`m not killsen`s fanboy, Im just realistic.

I appreciate and will listen to the feedback and criticism from those who I respect - unfortunately this is a very low number of people.

Will try not to talk over each other tomorrow. I'm waking up at 3:30-9 AM, so I'm sorry if my speech is a bit slurred (I also didn't smoke the entire time). Thorin will join me in during the morning matches before proZaC arrives.

2GD will be here Saturday and Sunday, and wheat will be here Saturday.

Hope everyone has generally enjoyed things so far. Remember, the matches are the most important, and it actually ended pretty much on time today!

it wasn't you who was interrupting the others. It was the tranzor guy or w/e. It was srsly annoying
but i understand it was because of the lag and/or zones. Slasher, you did mention some things
which were obvious to the viewer so if you have that habit, maybe you can add a reason as to why
the player is there, or did that after you mention the obvious. other than that, i enjoyed the cast and
it got funny when the pimp came on.

Well your commentating was the better of all three. It was just frustrating to hear you getting cut off (I didn't hear you talk over anyone). Nothing really wrong at all aside for the mic distortion, but I think you've just got the output up too high and the mic too close to your mouth (often enough with these headset it really just needs to be maybe 2-3 inches away from your face to get decent clarity)

im not sure if anyone else noticed it but in the newest cfgs of rapha/cypher/avek (not sure about the rest) there is zoomfov 70 - exactly the same as strenxes and hes known for his zoomings with lg

so im wondering did everyone start to zoom with lg?

cos if not why the zoomfovs re so low?

i asked cypher like 2 weeks ago in game whether he zooms with lg but he said "NO" so im kinda confused :|

I dont think it is for lg, I guess some cosmetic changes, but its a little bit weird that those players mentioned by you set exactaly the same zoomfov. Also I think it depends... some players use alot fo zooming in lg fights (for example Spartie, he said that some time ago), others not. What about cypher - he has +zoom at button 2, so I dont hink he doesnt use zoom for his lg, but if he said no, I dont know, maybe its true.

P.S
But otherwise many players set 90-100 for lg (different values for each weapons) when they play on higher fovs, so... I am confused right now :D

yep he said no but they seem to change those cfgs together from time to time when they got some new ideas so mybe he changed it not that long ago

i dotn get those red keels though they re hardly visible on dm13 and ztn :O

it must be for lg cos it would be against all logic to put it higher for rail

the best value for rail is 40-45- thats what lets me hit the most difficult (for me) shots and best railers use it - stermy

but as we know dueling is all about balance so i guess i can miss a rail or two if im able to out lg my opponent in every fight

razer brothers + they re using postprocessing now and cypher switched from 640x480 to r_mode 9 which is 800x600 i supose

postproc is cool when u want your bright keel be ULTRA BRIGHT

they changed so much maybe thats the reason for cyphers accuracy drop

Yea I have been playing with this sets since few years :) Also I was always used to mapoverbrightbits 10 but then visibility in ql is not s good (for me), this value was great in q3 (I have still installed so easy to compare).

I also noticed that many players are still changing sth in their cfg, I dont know why, but in my case in ql i can't set comfortable sets in 100% comparing to q3 when I was playing couple of years on the same cfg without changing anything.

That's not the ghosting you're seeing in the picture, that's the hertz. That camera is running a set exposure rate, meaning the lens is open for X amount of time. In that picture, the lens was open long enough to see 1-3 frames of what that monitor was outputting. So, 1/60th to 1/20th of a second.

ALL monitors look like that when taking still pictures while movement is being observed on the screen. There isnt a monitor on earth that would look any different.

Go watch a demo in QL and when a player is moving right to left take a picture, it will look exactly like the picture taken. It has nothing at all to do with the quality of the monitor.

It was clear that killsen will loose this rematch...
As both players have great aim and shitty conditions it's the mindset which makes the difference. He had such a psychological disadvantage.
in noctis brain: "Great, I have nothing to loose!"
in killsen's brain: "Damn I just won, what if I loose?!?!?!"
Can't belive they haven't stop after the first map, if it was that unplayable. Replaying all matches is just a joke! In this case if it's the world championship of quake and high prize money you need referees which check the conditions before the game and dedcide whether to play or not. And when it's played, it's played! Or have you seen any games in the fifa worldcup being repeated? Refering to this "esports" is still unprofessional.
