Kan1, hoffmaster and me will definitely be there. I'm going to miss all the quakecon action this year so I hope this will make up for it.
I'll have to see about the details but I'm guessing we'll all be there on the weekend while I might go alone on some of the other days, hopefully we'll get a schedule soon.

have you looked in the cities around cologne? Düsseldorf etc? Train connections are really good

look for something in bonn or siegburg.
train takes like 15-20 minutes from there (central station) to the fair in cologne, or atleast the nearest db station. same goes for hürth or brühl, but I guess there aren't too many hostels here..

düsseldorf wouldn't be too optimal, the fastest train needs like 30 minutes, you would pay 10 euro for one ride, and if you wanna get back to düsseldorf after (something like) 12 am to 1 am there's only one train that takes ~1.5 hours.

As the gamescom ticket entitles you to use the public transport of VRS and VRR, the 10 euros are no problem.

Ok, so I will be there from friday to sunday by the looks of things. You can buy tickets online and print them out if you don't want to wait at the counter and save some money.
Friday will also have the first Intel Friday Night Game of the season with calipt vs k1llsen, which I probably won't be attending since I'll be going to the free Shout Out Louds concert in the city.

Unluckily, my girfriend is currently sick. It is not clear if she will recover in time or not. Our hotel can no longer be canceled now, so we have to pay full price for the room, whether we can come or not. If we don't come, I'd rather pass the room to somebody. Oh dear, I was buying the Gamescom tickets and it says visitors are admitted only from Thursday on. We will be there already on wednesday.

I now wrote to ESL support in the hope they can do something about it.

You can buy tickets for trade visitors for the 18th but they are more expensive. But on the German gamescom homepage there is written that the staff may demand a verification that you really are a trade visitor.
