Ya PC gaming is being owned by the console market because all console gamers think you need the latest Alienware PC that cost a arm n a leg but they just want something that just works and plays all their games what is understandable.

If you are new to PC gaming and you want a gaming PC the first place you would check would be Alienware due to it being the most commercial and the high prices like i stated before will just scare them off.

We need a company to make a PC/console so all new users just have the same system that just does the job and is idiot proof.
So new users don't have to know anything about PC's just that it plays the most popular games.

I don't think big sponsors would be interested by what is basically a 10years old engine, wouldn't help the sales at all. So yeah, he has pretty much 2 ways of coming back, the first being playing ql only for his rep and placing decently thanks to his experience, the second being waiting for a new fast fps, so that everyone is new at the game and having less trouble + selling stuff thanks to a new engine.

also in recent years you didn't really need to upgrade so often, because most games are also ported on/from consoles and the developer needs to keep a similar quality on all platforms

plus they learned a hard lesson that in order to sell you need to make the game enjoyable visually on less than stellar systems.. so no more insane engine pushes like in the past (hello Doom3!), with games that basically forced you to upgrade

I think PC gaming has a possible chance if someone does my Console/PC idea and e-sports goes massive then I think PC gaming would have chance.

2-3 years back, even 1 year back he could still ride his "world championship" bandwagon and earn money but the population doesnt have a long term memory. Sooner or later he has to refresh these accomplishments or he won't be able to hold on to sponsors and earn a living, especially not with just dm17 shootouts.

Well if he does decide to comeback it will kinda be like a make or break situation,
If he does comeback and wins everything then yes he sponsors will love him and we will see Fatal1ty all over the place even more but if he does comeback and loses and is coming in at 6th-8th then the sponsors will be kinda shaky.

IMO he has more to lose if he does come back also with him not playing at a top level for so long and with the current top 4/5 if you want to add Stermy due to him being on fire recently it will be a tough challenge to get a high placing.

imo its the reverse atm, his fame might have stagnated by itself too much for it to stay profitable for him and he will gain more by showing his face in tourneys.

Also, its fatality. I never really liked his style but the guy is a beast when it comes to practicing proper for a tourney. He still has a chance to do well if he starts his practice like 2 months prior to the tourney.

Of course these are opinions, only fatality really knows where he currently stands vs the competetion and the state of his brand value.

2009/2010 had a lot of tournaments, + the money is solid.

Fear and the fact he still seems to get on fine with his sponsorship deals. With zero4 I think he just doesn't have the drive to do it and just wants to enjoy it casually.

Fatal1ty is still a massive name/brand in the larger gaming community which is all he needs to keep going how he has been.

i'm convinced that he specced a lot of these tourneys and saw what he'd be up against.

i was impressed when he took 1st bo3 vs toxic in q4 grand final, but that was ages ago, and this is something completely different. cypher vs cooller was some of the best quake i've seen (bf aside), which means that the game is STILL evolving.

fatal1ty has potential, but even if he gets to 100% i see basically nothing from his side to throw at top5/6. probably some ultra-defense and go for 1:0 score. he's definitely not smarter, his best aim is still worse than top5.

You're right though, the amount of effort he'd need to put in to get those placings is way too high and his reputation is way too big to risk.

well in comparison with fucking painkiller world tour for 7 players it's true.

though since 2002 and last wcg for 20k, the only 2 tournaments that had a big prizepool in quake were quakecon (20k-25k-15k) and cpl winter finals (25k). eswc was always far behind. so i don't know what is he really expecting.

When he says he'd come back to tournaments if the prizes became big enough, it's a pretty good bet he's thinking big relative to his current income, not big relative to what pro players usually make... ie practically nothing considering.

zero4 never practiced like fatality... if zero4 managed to put in that sort of time in he would be good too. I don't think you are grasping how much practice time fat actually pulled back in the day. Think sc pro in korea, it was that much.

Fatal1ty never had amazing aim in quake, he won with tactics and strategy just like cooller and rapha.

If fat were to come back he would probably be able to make the top 5 within solid 6-7 months practice + if quakelive had mostly new maps.

also, Zero4 was an AIMER. He had tremendous rockets and rail and a solid lg. This was in OSP where aiming was actually fucking hard. That + his reflexes and just solid timing made him a beast.

Nowadays aiming 35+ lg and 50 rail is standard for any great player, so the aim factor for zero4 has dropped. He won't be able to do anything that amazing anymore without a solid brain game.

His brain game is probably as good as fox - which is perfect timing and some inventive moves, but not enough efficient traps or control of frags before items so that he can maintain control.

The only other guy back then that would do flick rockets (even better than z4) was uNkind. He even used long distance flick rockets and they actually hit pretty damn well, it was just sick to see.

2. Rockets
3. Ability to adapt to whatever style

his rails on tourney4 are a pure result of knowing the map angles + positioning, NOT aim.

on some tourney lately he still outbrains dahang 5/6 times, but receives 2x more damage than he deals. 200/150 vs 100/120 dahang wins. 3:0 in maps.

That's called map aim. Knowing the angles and aiming from them. This is what CZM does to people on hub since he knows the map inside and out - he can land those sort of shots.

The brain part of what i talk about is something completely different, like when rapha picks fights at certain points in a map just to delay the other person from being able to fight him when he is trying to pick up items that sort of strategy is what zero4 never had.

ZeRo4 in CPMA was getting owned because his aim was very standard. Instead of being dominant in aiming in OSP, his aim in CPMA was fairly normal.

He needed something extra and started to add bits of strategy he had picked up by facing off against all the brain players and the sort.

Remember when fatal1ty beat him 15- (-1) *or something* on dm6? ZeRo4 was massively out aiming him with LG but he still couldn't get a frag on fatality, because he was out brained severely.

That's what he did have.

Rapha is basically the new zero4.
Cypher is basically the new unkind (but with LG aim too).
CZM and Fox play(ed) nothing like zero4.

Fox from 2005+ played exactly like zero4 in terms of strategy. But not really aim - he would use less rockets and more LG on players and not attempt any thing too dangerous.

CZM plays completely different than zero4, what i meant was:

CZM's knowledge of the map HUB is so good that he can predict and shoot off rails/rockets that look extremely hacked, because of the angles he knows on the map.

This is exactly like ZeRo4 in OSP on t4.

Let's get this straight, not a single top duel player (bar chance, if you wanna call him top) has bad aim, the difference in aiming ability is tiny. You get people who say cooller has bad aim, yet he is quite capable of not only out-railing and out-shafting people but he's done so against the best aimers themselves on countless occasions.

So the fact that zero4 had good aim and especially great rocket aim does not make him an "aimer", nor do flick shots.

Knowing the angles inside out on PT4 doesn't mean that zero4 was an aimer and there's a perfect example of why in two games that I believe were played back-to-back at Quakecon 2003.

1. Daler (Aimer) vs Fox (Map Aimer)
2. Zero4 (Predictor) vs Fox (Map Aimer)

So in 1. Fox utterly humiliates Daler purely through clever positioning and knowing the angles, then in 2. ZeRo4 predicts everything fox does and dominates him.

ZeRo4 wasn't only capable of doing this on PT4 either, he was capable of this on all the maps. This was never quite the case of czm who while god-like on aerowalk was never quite as deadly on the other maps.

Map Aimers often look like Predictors for obvious reasons.

There are categories of duelers.

Aim Players
These guys play their strategy depending on how good their aim is on that day. Feeling good with rail? ->pick rail fights
Feeling better with LG? -> pick lg fights

The main point is that they will fight you when it could be disadvantageous to themselves, but the surprise on you + their aim will carry them and allow them to get the frag.

As it stands, he really kind of needs to get active in tournaments to keep his mark. Playing dm17 shootouts with one hand again 13 year old Chinese kids isn't really impressive.

I'd expect the next big game (Doom4 or whatever) he should workshop and practice the fuck out of and play again.

As for if he could make a dent in the current QuakeLive standings, I think you guys are dismissing him too fast. Stermy's play in the Quakecon reminded me a bit of Fatal1ty. That whole dm13 'always-need-an-exit' approach reminded me a lot of the Fatal1ty-phrantic map strategies. Judging from the way he's dominating CA games (although it's hard to tell what skill tiers they are) his aim is still pretty on, but I'd expect he'd still be more about the items and honestly think he could probably place top8 if he really practiced a shit ton.

That being said, ZeRo4 has been playing casually and has been kinda destroyed by Rapha in recent 'fun' tournies but yet has pretty much beaten the rest of the US scene and I think even gave DaHang a hard time without even playing that much (says something about the US scene huh). ZeRo4 in a European scene with practice would probably place higher then other US players but lower then Rapha (as every other US player has). Same for Fatal1ty

He really doesn't. He managed to get his name into that "not quite pop culture" status where even some people who don't really play games have at least come across his name before and where most gamers (non-competitive) know of him and think of him as a top player.

That's all his sponsors give a shit about and nobody will challenge that status for a long time.

QL needs CZM and Toxjq for one reason and Fatal1ty for a completely different reason IMO.

If Fatal1ty comes back to QL, it might bring more money to the more important events. Plus his star status can do wonders for the game at this point and further.

CZM and Toxjq are needed to revive the very soul of the game. Insane aim, brilliant game sense, great persona and most importantly, community favorites. Long story short, QL needs all 3 of them.
