LoL is the skimpish little cousin of the nerd that is HoN. so yeah, LoL gets more action. but afaik HoN still has 30,000 users online at any giving moment, haven't played it myself in months tho.

Having been a free account for a while, started playing a few duels on the new maps (I'm a shit dueler)

Playing Hektik is great fun, gonna be an instant classic. Even out of control, it can be quite hard, but still fun because if you put in the rails and good rockets you can force your way back in through aim or just position yourself well for battles at red/mega

Edit: I will add that I actually quite like Phrantic, and the rail being there is nowhere near as bad as I thought it'd be.

Hasn't quakecon numbers been going up though? I mean still, it's not like we're talking 5+ digit attendance figures, but it seems to be increasing the last few years at least if the wiki article is right. Though going from beta to release, does seem to have been lackluster.

This Quakecon was actually more popular than it has been in a few years, but the impact to QL was less than last year.

If you couldn't tell, my complaints stem from my love for Quake. I don't want the Quake brand to die, and seeing id run it into the ground is infuriating.

The intent of my anti-QL posts are to try to get people to go back to Q3 so the death of QL won't be such a devastating blow to Quake. With id making it clear that Quake is done if QL fails, it's in the hands of the fans to hopefully continue to support Q3 to change their mind. On the other hand, seeing how poorly QL was designed, it's hard to have faith that they'd even be able to make another Quake game without making it as bad as Q4/VQ3.

I don't see you do more for Q3 than id are for QL? Why should the people that like QL go to Q3? Anyway, your way of thinking is not very logic if you say that you 'love' quake since what you seem to do is just bring bad manners and a whiney atmosphere. If you were a troll I would understand. I like QL. But I also like Q3. But my favourite quake is Q2. I don't go and disrespect other peoples opinions just because they differ from mine.

I also prefer Q3/QL but its a known fact in the scene that Q2 is at minimum equally difficult to master.

We actually traded shaft for chain. The movement in Q2 is the most advaced movement out of all quakes. So that is the main reason I still love it, you can control every inch of your jumps, and not to mention you can actually fly off strairs rather than get stuck. A long story short, the movement/feeling is what makes Q2 the game I like the most. Did I even mention double jump/ramp jumps? :)

When it comes to the weapons. Q2 weapons are quite delayed. That is probably the thing most QW/Q3 players really dislike. I understand why, I do. What I personally like with the weapons in Q2 is that it's actually hard to hit high accurasies and not everyone is running around with 40% shaft and 60% rail.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I wished Quake 2 was called 'Random title'. Since it's very different from other quakes and should not be treated with such disrespect from the Q1/Q3 players. It's a very good game in it's own way and would have been better for everyone if it was called something else :)

You should not blame anyone though. All the titles of quake are stand alone games and should not be compared that much to eachother. Play the game you want, support the game you want.

Ehm I'm not really a q2 expert. Not at all. Last time I played it must been before 2000, but I am a qw player more then I am a q3/ql player and if there is something you got full control over in qw it's movement.

I think this will give a slightly different image of how many prem. servers are usally on.

there are infinite amount of servers, they spawn always more when current servers are full, but when theres too many servers serverbrowser bugs and doesnt show empty servers anymore if you dont choose "show only empty" from filters...

So basically those of us that supported from the start and bought subscriptions got 12 months for the same price as these new blowins will get 13 months.

Actually it's pretty awesome as of now, everybody's playing newer maps, it's so much easier finding people who are eager to play aero/hektik/etc

Oh.. QL in general is very good.. but Freeze Tag is about 8 features/issues away from even being close to a good team game. It is nothing like it should be based on how it was played for years by a large community.

I just got done playing 2 maps.. its bad.. really bad. I love ID and QL.. I mean shoot.. I support it by running events.. but if we want to run FT leagues and tournaments, FT has to be changed. The gameplay is very bad.

My suggestions have already been submitted to syncerror and ID and for the last 2 years I have been asking to be a part of any progress with FT, but have yet to be asked for my input... even though I was the 'lead' for the US FT community for almost 5 years.

The suggestions that I gave him actually were compiled by long time FT players and myself, then submitted to sync.

I hear there may be changes coming, but it would be nice to have them all done at once, so we can get started with creating a community for it and running events! :P

just a few quick ones..

no reset
all weapons
frozen remain frozen at point
no 'draw' rounds.. .. wow that ones bad!
thaw sounds (not hugely important but sound always helps)
unlimited points (default, not 10 default)

The game is meant to be more fluid .. and less like CA.. which is basically what it is right now but with frozen dudes that can be thawed..

There are many other 'features' that would add to the game as well. Not gimmicky things either.. legitimate features that would enhance the competition.

The ft community should stop splitting itself (allweaps us style, no weaps + reset EU style, and insta) and just learn to accept that not all FT implementations are exactly the same as your preferred 10 year old mod.

QL Freeze Tag seems very similar to the last time I played freeze tag 10 years ago in Q2, so just leave it alone :) MAKE IT FREE though ffs, I mean wtf put it premium?

I never played FT in quake3 and played a little when it was free to play some weeks ago and now during this event, and to me it felt like a fine mod with plenty of opportunities for strategic play.I did not get the impression that the game play was "very bad" at all.

It seems that every time changes are made to just about anything, conservatives will fall over each other in a crusade how everything should stay exactly the same forever so they can keep their competitive advantage and nostalgia intact. Whether it's duel time limits, maps, changes to weapons, runes, amount of players in ctf or now this FT thing.

And I'm not saying you don't have valid points or idea's that may improve FT, but how about you run your Leagues and Tournaments FIRST and AFTERWARDS look at what things could or even should be improved. Instead of the "uh it's unplayable in it's current state, so I'm not going to do anything at all" rhetoric, that isn't really helping anyone.

As a FT community, we already went through all of what you mention as far as 'making changes'. I have ran tournaments for FT for a long time and with many different settings. Its much like the evolution of TDM, CTF or CPMA.. changes have already been made and accepted by the community to make the mod better.

A good FT team that knows what they are doing would beat any new team 10-0 every time with the current setup. It does not lend it self at all for fair or balanced game play and if you played with the settings and features that have been proposed to ID.. I can assure you that you would like it much better.

I am not asking for anything to stay just the same.. in fact there would be changes as we moved forward... but the current setup is 180 degrees different and without balance that its not even the same game. So do you suggest that we make drastic changes to CTF .. just because we can and because we dont want the 'conservatives' to keep things as they are.

There is no way that I would ran tournaments with the current settings. I assure you that after a single tournament with 4 or 5 teams that know what they are doing and the rest just there to play.. those that just came to 'play' would quickly leave and the community would be no longer.

To say that I am not helping.. that's the furthest from the truth. I have been pushing for FT since the day that QL was released and have submitted the Q3 FT code.. commands, features.. demos, community rants.. etc all in hopes of bringing a solid FT version to QL.
