thats one side of the medal, the other side is that a centralized distribution of content helps introducing new maps for example. the q3 mappool was so stale while now the new maps get tried out by everyone and the mappool is finally undergoing some changes

I'm not playing QL because, besides overall inferiority, the mappool wasn't updated in fucking ages and I just got bored of it. so not sure if that centralised system really turned out to be a benefit, people have been complaining and requesting/providing new maps for a long time without being heard.

You're paying for using id's centralised server system, map licenses for bringing classic maps to quake live, and helps further development in a project that id aren't even close to being done with.

I'm not a fan of the whole subscription thing either, but it's more than reasonable in terms of pricing.

I would glady pay them up to 13 eur/month if they'd actually offered us "Quake 3 (latest PR with either OSP or CPMA) in a browser". But I'd never rent this watered down shit. No money from me here.

People fell for id's swindle and now the have to deal with it. And I won't even get started on the so-called "pro's" playing a broken game (e.g. the sound) for over 2 years now.

Afaik I could perfectly hear where my opponent was coming from and when he was picking up items and didn't need to see him picking up this very item.
But even though it's been broken in Quake 3, it shouldn't stay that way either especially when it's beeing played in price tournaments. Don't you think so?

Before the community even thinks about begging for new content they at first should want the game to get fixed (e.g. sound, netcode, spawnsystem).

They would only deserve every penny if there "new" quake series game would still cater to the hardcore scene like every game (except for doom3) did that the id guys created. Now their stabbing in the backs of every hardcore gamer that loved every bit of their games and that brought their games to their former glory. And what for? Only greed.

Yeah, of course the old quake community is elitist to the core. But imagine if casual gamers would have had some influence back in the day. How would the quake series have changed? And would they have even lived as long as they did/still do?

You can't please everyone though can you, you have to go for the highest percentage.

If they invest 90% of effort into 1% of the player base (hardcore) you would go bust. Its always going to be this way whether its ID Software or not.

Of course you can't please everyone. Everbody's taste differs in alot of ways.

But when id is cartering to the casually playing horde which won't bother much to learn to play the game with all it's facets then they will either stay free, subscribe once and never again or even quit.
With a real browser game that lives up to the "epicness" of it's predecessor with the further addition of either OSP or CPMA, harcore players - meaning people that would play the game hour after hour each day and even participate in tourneys - would most likely pay almost every amount id Software would charge for it. And rightfully so, because we could again play the game the we've loved to play for a long period of time, until it sadly vanished into thin air.

I just can't see the implementation of OSP or CPMA ever being a priority, adapt or die! Promode movement might get put in but not the mod itself.

OSP or CPMA as a whole don't have to be implented. Just those neat features and tools that add up to a better quake experience. Those mods have never been stand-alone thing but improvements that made baseq3 into a valuable competitive game. So why not look to them to improve QL so it could be improved aswell.

I would have liked it aswell if they would've just started off with the latest version of one of these mods. But id decided to not even start with the latest PR of baseq3. Just had to copy, there are no legaly issues with OSP or CPMA features. Of course not, those mods where volunteer's work and not made for greedy profit. ;)
