I've got a Siberia v2 and gone through like 4 of them.

First one's left earcup died. Returned to Amazon
Second one's bass completely went (seriously, how does that even happen?!). Returned to Amazon
Third one's microphone died. Return period expired. Had to complain non-stop to Steelseries who (in a rare move) sent me a replacement
Fourth and current is going strong after a month, but I try as hard as possible not to upset it


They're fairly uncomfortable for long use tbh. Sounds good. Not necessarily the best for gaming since it's kind of for music as well so the bass is deep. I'm still using them primarily because they broke so soon I could just return them and couldn't be bothered to buy a different set (Amazon only let you get a replacement rather then a refund that you can use towards another headset) but should I have spare money I'd get some PC350s. Tried them and they're much more comfortable and sound great.

If your budget is $200, Sennheiser's are the way to go. PC350 or HD595. PC350s are better for gaming but not as good for music. HD's are good for all but no microphone. Not tried the 5hv2 but judging from other complaints that the microphone wares out, I dunno if I'd bother.

let me get that straight, you did buy 1 headset and received 4? and fucked them all up?

Bought one and they all presented problems so just returned them but you can't get a refund, only a replacement.

I have both the Siberia V2 and the Sennheiser PC350 (and many more) and the Siberia V2 sounds much better, though the Sennheiser are more comfortably, but I like some features of the Steelseries (better microphone, not so long cable, the 'leather' earcups feel nice, the pilot is better, the cable itself is better, you can unplug the cable into two parts which is not so much of a must have feature, but definitely appreciated etc.). Is something wrong?

I use the Sennheiser HD595 for everyday use anyway ; P

The Siberia 'sounds' better because it's equalized to sound big and enhanced. The Sennheisers are better to play with because they don't mask the shit you need to hear :P

and I have to disagree with the microphone as on SiberiaV2s it's shit. They're all broken for me or got worn out easily even if I just left them pulled out. The Senneheisers are more comfortable but the Siberia V2 cable is better I'll agree on that :P

Since this thread got bumped I'll tell you what I got.

I have a steelseries 7h I use for gaming/mic and Shure SRH840s for music/other. I also sometimes use the Shure's for gaming since they have excellent passive noise cancellation (better than the ss 7h).

The 7h is also very light and comfortable, good for long periods of time. It's just that it is basically unusable for music.

would be happy to try both those Shure headphones and that SteelSeries headset ; )

I hardly care about a cable being too long or one supposedly 'better' than the other. Those are trivial observations when what really matters is comfort, performance and reliability.

The cable is a lot better.

Comfort is worse on the SteelSeries, though the earcups do not heat.
The Senneheiser headset broke for me, the right channel sometime worked and sometimes didn't. Each time it didn't work I had to hit the right half of the headset.
Performance is imo better.

Since you don't smash your headphones on the floor, I don't how you can broke them, got a Siberia v1 for 1 or 2 years, I've never got any problems with them, I've just changed them because they started to hurt my ears a lot.

I don't know if the headsets are available in the US, but it's quite easy to find them on google btw.

I bought the Cacharias from Razer, I wanted a not so expensive headphones with microphone. They are quite comfy and the sound is not so bad for gaming headsets.

if you want them to last, don't go for something from companies like SteelSeries or Razer. try Sennheiser etc.

Seconded, companies like Sennheiser, beyerdynamic and AKG are good, reputable headphone manufacturers.

You're better off spending a little more on good quality headphones that will last a long time, then spending less on gaming headphones that you'll just end up having to replace.

Sennheiser, BeyerDynamic or AKG are the way to go.

Audio Technica need to be part of this list. Gamers often need to consider comfort, and AT's AIR wing design thing is phenomenally comfortable for very long periods of time. Also the soundstage on their AD700s is far superior to the similarly priced sennheiser models.

I have steelseries 5h and they are ok for sound quality. The build on them has lasted me at least 2 years before they have now started to break (plastic bit snapped) but they are still perfectly useable. I also broke a plastic part that goes over the top of you head, and with a nicely worded email to steelseries they sent me a replacement part free of charge.

My brother uses the siberias and has had them for 2 years, they havent put a foot wrong nad have better sound quality than my 5h's. They are more comfortable, sound better, look better and seem like a stronger/more well built product. I would actually recommend them, although I have never used Sennheiser and the like.

Thirding the above, sennheiser, beyerdynamic, akg, etc. If you buy one over €100 and take good care of it, it can last you for ages. Though if u do lot's of lans, look for a closed design.

Creative HN700. The noise cancellation is powered by 2 x AAA batteries and it works superbly. I use it for gaming as well as music.

The bass is slightly bloated right out of the box, but it will largely depend on what you're listening to and what EQ settings are you using. You're not going for an audiophile grade headphone anyway and this should be a much better bet than the SteelSeries headsets which I find annoying for the following reasons:

1. The highs are very harsh
2. Uncomfortable for prolonged use
3. Cheap build quality

I never touched any of their stuff after the 3H. Had to bear it coz it came with my Kinzu bundle.

First decide if you want a closed or open back (block ambient noise / sweaty ears, or better sound quality).

Generally speaking, headphones have a much better price/quality ratio. In audio quality, but most deff in build quality. Headsets are in a market of brain-washed teenagers, who will spend more for some useless marketing gimmicks. The Sennheiser PC350 (closed) and PC360 (open) are pretty good tho. PC360 is kinda like my HD595, but less build quality.

I wouldn't post that over at head fi though, they will probably tell you that the hd280 is so far from the best headphone on the market that you must be delusional.

And same if they came here advertising headphones that cost way more or one's that have flat sound and not designed for gaming.

With that said, had my Sennheiser HD280 Pro's for a few years now and still love every bit of em. :)

gaming != audio

Siberia V2 is really really really uncomfortable for me, the drivers constantly touch and push against my ears, and the pain is really sharp, not only that, it heats up really easily.
It's hard for me to enjoy the sound while my ears are so Freaking SORE.

First headset had that bass (away) problem mentioned here earlier, but it was no problem to get a new one sent by SteelSeries using the RMA process.

I like my Siberia V2 :D
