I bet his mouse is not really working on that surface.
also:
- cpu/gpu <- can it run ql/wow/sc on stable fps
- screensize <- i cant find the rocket ammo
- connected to that battery life
- id rather they just make it an appealing netbook :p
interesting :) if you just want to run ql there are other, cheaper options already out.
the acer aspire one 521 for example runs ql (stable 125fps) with vertex 1 and 640x480. that's a 10inch netbook, the same and even better hardware can be found in other brand's netbooks aswell.
edit: in any way, you are probably restricted due to the vga/hdmi outputs, atm we need dvi-d for 120hz tfts.
i have no idea but always assumed it would work because hdmi is the latest. wouldn't that also depend on resolution you were trying to push through as that affects the required bandwidth?
even at 640x480? iirc someone claimed on esr that it should theoretically be possible at that resolution, with 800x600 being too much. did you happen to try that out?
doesn't work, just tried it out. probably no point in playing 640x480 on a modern tft anyway, unless it has hardware scaling I'm guessing scaling wouldn't work correctly even if you manage to get a 640x480 signal at 120hz. anyways, pointless discussion apart from the fact that hdmi sucks ;)
I got a dual atom HTPC , it's a ZOTAC ION overclocked to 2.4 Ghz, I mostly play from this machine at nights, so I tested it a lot.
The Ion graphics is enough for QL, you can use the highest settings @ 1280x720, except the post-processing effects (glow, etc), since the ion only connects with a 64bit bus to the video ram. ,
But the atom even at 2.4Ghz (the default is 1.6Ghz), just can't do stable 125fps. (Q3 can btw o_O)
The atom is perfect as silent server or for a good HTPC in the bedroom, but its not good for gaming. I would recommend an OC-ed SU4100 like the Zotac IONITX-O-E , since it's a powerful CPU, and only draws 5 watts more when OC-ed,
It would be a much better pick, since it's a Celeron, there is no performance-killer in-order-execution problem like with the atoms.
Edit: multithreaded games run much better on the atom , I can play HL2 in HD with highest settings for example, and it's pretty smooth.
the idea just failes by the fact, that "small and mobile" directly translates into tiny display sizes.
this is just another netbook, absent alot of features aside from gaming (hdmi port, cardreader, multiple usb ports)
if you want mobile gaming - buy an 12" netbook with dualcore cpu + nvidia ion and not this 8-10" shit that'll cause you eyeball cancer after half an hour. and even then dont be fooled - it'll hardly be enough to play last generation games at a decent level
I think, that dynamic keyboard layout (OLED?) can be effectively used with other programs, work with statistics, video-editing, and more. But then again, that idea already exists, if a cheaper netbook with that kind of keyboard would be released... I´d get it!
Now what we really need is wireless video googles and combine it with Wii controllers where one hase been tweaked to react like a mouse and a wireless connection to a netboox or something that you can store in a backpack or a bag or something.
Play ql everywhere without those having to squint to see something on the screen and without needing a table for the mouse!
Yes, very little practical use as you'd expect, but it's "cool tech" and interesting for a bit.
I got called a hacker in E+ instagib duel once using the mouse to look around and NIA for everything else (abysmal movement, firing) :@ Unfortunately only says anything about the opponent xD
Basically there are a couple of inputs you can do and bind to whatever key you want (practically limitless I guess with some know-how and programs like AutoHotkey or something); honestly can't remember them (been ages) but some of the really easy ones are like looking left and right, clenching your teeth and so on. The more difficult inputs I never bothered with since people said it could take weeks just figuring out how to do them :|
Maybe I'm just not creative enough but I can't see any immediate really efficient use like that for it that would make it worth it; there are IMO too few reliable and easy inputs (but who knows), some of them can get surprisingly tiring on you (things you're not used to be doing all the time with your face), and ugh having that thing at hand, putting it on your head, running the software and shit every time...
IMO it's a nerdy gadget you at best show people and go "oooh ain't that cool". Been out for a couple of years though and I haven't kept track at all, maybe there's new and improved stuff out or at least people that have come up with interesting uses. I tried to incorporate it in any way with f.e. Quake but none of the NIA inputs were close to as fast, easy and reliable as anything keyboard+mouse. Railing by clenching my teeth was hilarious for a while :)
why is it that asian guy in the promo video has unlocked the achievement "epicvoice"? i'd be okay with an 200cm northan european at the age of 50 doing so.. but seeing that guy just felt totally wrong
