I think there's a CPL rule saying that if you tell somebody that you haven't received your prizemoney, you have no right to it anymore.

Fat has said that he's received most of it, but I that may be about earlier tournaments. Most likely it's not paid out, not fully at the very least that's for sure.

actually the rule was/is if you talk in any negative context about cpl you lose any right to your earnings and it was a clause in contract that players signed.

So what happened then? The organization behind the tournament promising the money disappeared/went bankrupt? Doesn't sound very legit to host a $1,000,000 tournament and then not pay out - it has to break some law. :p

esports companies owe prizemoney for longs periods of time (including esl) , they did some more CPLs and then went bankrupt IIRC. They've now recreated and deny any owed prizemoney\claim that it's not for them to pay, as it's a new company, I'm not sure which is the case anymore. I believe razer went bankrupt and recreated while owing fat a million bucks or something, ESWC did not pay out the old debts too. The latter did pay out at least some (IIRC) of the prizemoney for their latest tournament there and then, just after the tournament went down, to regain some of the respect for the brand.

I received my winnings which alloted to approximately $35000, and most players did too... As long as they filled out the paperwork properly and not half-assed.

I actually loved watching the world tour, it was like nearly every month there was 50k up for grabs and every month there were these cool tourneys in often exotic locations and live coverage.

The saddest thing was, it made me realise how fucking stingy these big companies are to esports, they have billions of pounds and it would take about 500k to a million dollars a year to make something amazging happen in quake and it never does, its these shitty 4,000 dollars prizes for being the best in the world at the hardest game. Its an insult.

Imagine every month there was 50k to be won?
Pros could actually play full time, more people would try, constant games and coverage. Awesome PR.

What they do is offer people peanuts becuase they know they are desperate to compete, so when people play in these things it means they get "YOU" for peanuts.

Its really sad, I hate to say it but a big part of the reason esports will never take off is becaue of the players themselves.

People earn a living doing far more pathetic things thant mastering what I think is the future of entertainment.

yep, it's kind of sad to see them just linger and try shit around, waiting to hit the jackpot (which was kind of the case with starcraft 2, but while there are many tournaments for it organizers still realize that keeping the prizemoney low is more profitable, and nobody is willing to set a new trend) and basically mocking the scene with many talented and enthusiastic people :S

Organizing a well run, big tournament for a single game (sc2 would still be the premier choice, with ssf4 being the "non-sellout" game it is) could really get things going: TV attention, lots of new players, people treating it as an actual job, all of this could happen and we could see an actual sport in a 5 years time.

This is alone in my opinion the biggest part that the older players are forced to leave eventually, it's not just finansially possible if you are not reaching finals in every tournament, and/or live in a country where the a few thousand dollars gets you anywhere.

As always, not trying to step on anyones toes. Just stating one of the main reasons why I think so many good players are forced to leave, since being a top 20 player in this game requires years of dedication, and if you are a person who have to pay rent or take care of a family, that is not possible.

This is just a reason though, this and the fact that you also have to wait for years before seing the money, it's just a joke in so many levels.

I still love gaming though, but I just can't take it seriously since I have seen first hand how crap and un-professional everything has been for so many years.

I'm not only speaking from own experience, that is actually irrelevant to this, but from quite a substantial overview/knowledge of how this has been working the past decade or so, not only as a player, but mainly as a spectator since I chose to stay with games that are not so heavy on the money for the majority of my gaming years.

Can't remember the map name, but its one large room with everything connected to it; and I remember locktar at DH just staying at upper level there and raping his opponent; just didnt look good to watch :(

dm4, and with equally skilled opponents it can be an amazingly fun map to watch. Controlling the top/keeping height advantage is important, yes, but not impossible to break.

never played painkiller before but i have to say that game looks so awesome, the only deathmatch game away from quake that i could ever consider as a valid substitute.

The game was nice but seems to be too much RL-based. However I enjoyed CPL final a lot.

Game looks smoother and makes the stream seem clearer. Not saying I agree but I stopped caring.

encoding (at the same resolution and image quality) with high picmip uses less bitrate than with low
better textures < higher resolution and/or less artifacts and/or more fps

I think the only good Painkiller games are the original + the Battle Out Of Hell expansion (at least in SP).
The others were well crap. Couldn't even bother myself to finish them and I don't think they brought much to MP either although I haven't tried them.

Personally, I can only play any MMO for a month before I get deathly bored. We need a game, people. If id won't get with the pro-gaming thing, we need to find devs who will. World of Warcraft is designed so that the longer you play the game, the better your character is (due exclusively to items). The whole point is that, the longer you play the game, the more money they make. That makes for a totally and utterly shitty game. A game people - a game. It's for the purpose of being a great game, not so a business can douche-out profits.

I love Painkillers artstyle, weapons and action.. but I fucking hate the constant bunny hopping, I mean I like a good amount but in PK you do it three times as much as in Quake and simliar games.

Also they ruined the gothic feeling of PK with PK++ by adding these really digital hit sounds.
