On topic, I pirate mercilessly, however if I really like the music I go buy the album, I get it and then just shove it in my cd rack, I don't even rip it. (When you download it it's all formatted for you!) I own about 40 cd's, all bands who's music I thought was good.

I haven't bought a cd since I had a case full of originals (40/50 cd's) stolen from my car. That was about 7 years ago :<

I was always pretty good about this, but that's still ultimately going to the studio. Most band money comes from live gigs, so if you get a chance to see your favorite bands live, do so!
not saying there's anything wrong with buying the music ya like

They get funding to go play live based on their cd sales. If no one buys their cds, then the chances of seeing them live isn't very high :( I believe that a lot of bands never come to South Africa, because literally no one buys cds here, even though there is a huge potential fan base here (Pretty much every international artist that comes here has multiple sold out shows.)

I buy vinyls and download, haven't bought a CD since my discman still worked.

Radiohead are one of those bands that can afford to sell albums with "name your price" gimmick.

New Century Classics have tried the same and I'm not sure if the outcome was what they expected.

This album was fairly painful on first listen, there were like 2 tracks in the second half which were legitimately good. Some were unlistenable tho.

Edit: actually quite a few are growing on me now. tho #1 and #4 still seem pretty pointless.

When fans of a band say that their new album is "growing" on them to me it's usually a hint that the new album really sucks. It's like, man these songs are horrible but maybe if a listen to them a million times my brain will be forced to like them, after all, it's Radiohead, I have to try.

Haven't listened to it though, yet.

it's not that clear cut as you put it

some albums of favorite bands i absolutely hated or didn't get for quite some time, including some of Radiohead's work (thought Amnesiac was a horrible electro experiment for a long time)

usually I only buy music from artists like solo guitarists or pianists, just to support them a little

same. but that's mostly because none of it is online (:
