Teams must be thrilled by that. Close to 6000 euro (I count stay + food + whatever you need there) to send a whole team, if Quakecon announces a team mode within the upcoming two weeks. So you have to place first as a team to get it fully refunded where second place won't do it.

So not only is it expensive to go there now, but to break even and still have some money left to buy yourself something, you need to win it. Or of course find a sponsor crazy enough to spend 6000 euro on medium to low coverage of their brand and they let you have the full prize money IF you of course don't get knocked out by the awesome single elimination bracket in the team tournaments.

Incredible really, how is it so hard to announce a tournament 2 to 3 months in advanced. Were they waiting to see how Dreamhack Summer's TDM tournament turned out? Yeah some decent teams showed up, but don't forget that half of them weren't funded. And even if they were, a ticket to Sweden could be bought (at the moment of TDM announcement) for 80 euro (two-way). That's quite the difference? If it was CTF, I would've funded the whole team to go there if it was needed to compete. But 1215 euro a ticket + entree fee's + hotel + food etc.

And I'm not even discussing CTF vs TDM, it's just fucking ridiculous that they ruin a chance of European teams going to that event within a reasonable budget and not spend unnecessarily double the amount, because the organizers can't decide which two of the three possible game modes should be played. Are you fucking kidding me?

Personally I really hope they announce a TDM tournament there now, just so the American teams that form squads there get devastated by the two teams that still have the chance to go there (colwn and Reason). All the American CTF talent basically being worthless and what would and could have been a possible EU vs US battle in CTF, ending up in a total blow out in a TDM environment. And this is no stab at the American players and teams, just the way this Quakecon (and previous) is being announced and communicated is a stab in the face of the Quake community.

What do you expect from those retards anyway? Like they would think about something like that haha. Inb4 quakecon 2011 failure ...

I expect them to at least take care of the most simple things for such an event. If you give away 40.000 dollars total for two Quake Live tournaments, I reckon you want to have decent competition for it.

Announcing it so late excludes a lot of teams from participating and also causes lack of practice going on. Fucking stupid from both a logical, but also marketing standpoint. Guess it is true then that they don't give one flying fuck about the current state of Quake Live.

They do give a fuck about Americans winning the event rather than Europeans though, which is why it'll most likely be CTF :)

it wouldn't surprise me at all if cooller announced he would quit competitive quake after this qcon.
I get the feeling he's losing the flare for gaming and orienting more towards poker.

I read his formspring page from time to time and there's no basis for such feeling. On the contrary, he seems kinda determined to continue playing quake almost indefinitely.

We were told by an id software staff member that the tournament announcements should be out mid-may.

Same shit, different year.

With some luck they may announce something like:
"Our QL experiment ended successfully and we will shutdown the servers tomorrow. In our next project we will try to figure out how to ruin horse racing".

The old QuakeCon site had a plethora of information about the event, pictures, forum links, news and more. Now all that's there is a big banner and registration links for the event.

The quakecon site got hacked about a month ago, and they didn't really tell people. There was a small message about it on their facebook page, I believe, but they didn't email people to warn them that their information could have been stolen.

If it wasn't in Texas, Quakecon would be so much better. In fact, id software would be so much better. Why is a tech company based in such a backwards state? They should be in like California or Washington. Up here, you have Microsoft and Amazon. In California, you have Silicon Valley and companies like Google and Yahoo. I really have to wonder what the fuck id is doing in Texas.

A majority of Dallas and surrounding cities is served by Verizon FiOS, fastest nationwide ISP in the US. So tech wise it isn't exactly bad off. I'm from Los Angeles originally but living in Dallas for the past 5 years, I can see why they stay here. Cost of living here is loads cheaper then most other places, as well as operating a business I would imagine. It's a centralized location so traveling from both coasts isn't that costly.

If the pre-Quakecon patch is yet again worthless, it would be fairly safe for us to assume id software has no intention of supporting esports either now or in the future. Maybe the CPL poisoned the esports well for them, or maybe it's something else. Either way, they have never supported esports and likely never will. I could go so far as to say they oppose esports. Rage features no real multiplayer component, which means it has no esports value, potential or definite.

At least, if id will not support esports with their games, they could tell us instead of stringing us along.

Please tell me this is fake, $8k 1st place duel and HARDWARE for Brink prizes???!!
