my experiences with q3 tdm are as follows

- cess
- one guy who clearly outclasses everyone else gets 100 kills

- oh hey quad is going to spawn lets all push as a team for a few seconds

Real tdm only starts when everyone is that guy that outclasses everyone else.

It is also takes time to get organised in tdm, you can't just play pickup.

aside from the whole lack of an aiming skill gap, there's three main reasons that having good teamwork and strategy dominates in halo compared to quake

1) spawns are deterministic, so the formation of your team on the map is extremely important
2) respawn time is 5 seconds in TDM and 10 sec in CTF
3) every high tier weapon is as important as a quad damage, and unlike quake weapons drop with the exact amount of ammo carried on death (this is analogous to having 3+ quads with quaddrop enabled in play on one map)

combine all the points together, and every kill is extremely important, because one kill putting you into a 3v4 situation where you turnover a critical power weapon to the other team can quickly snowball into a string of 8+ kills

it requires a bit more finesse than grabbing a quad and going rambo for a bit

at the same time, these mechanics make for a pretty shit 1v1 game

that's the only point i was trying to make on MLG, not some insane premise that quake has a smaller skill gap than halo

i played pickups in q1/q2/q3 for a long fucking time until i quit quake for starcraft, so it's not like im some ignorant console twat. q3 duel will probably never be surpassed by anything but the tdm was always lackluster to me.

I can only add

1) I would like to see a deterministic (or at least a purely random) spawn system in QL, unlike it is now with the "spawn furthest from team" / "spawn in furthest from opponent" mechanics.
3) Perhaps not as important as quad, some weapons are very important (e.g. lg on cpm4, rail on most maps) that dropping one to a opponent is really bad.

people don't play tdm on pubs cuz its hard to get it balanced, but pickup games are immensely fun.

There are people who grew up playing consoles, then switched to PC's, and know perfectly well the difference and why one is better. Then there are people who have never really played PC games and continue claiming that console games are better.

Even fighters are better on PC's. The argument that having garbage controls makes the games harder (which they do, because you can't fucking control worth shit), does not mean the game is better or more professional. That would be like saying soccer players should have to play with one broken leg, because then it's harder to kick the ball.

Or like the netcode for a game should be worse so for example a hitscan weapon like the LG shouldn't hit where you aim

While I love my consoles, and will never forget all the awesome gaming experiences I had there (Zelda, Mario, and a ton other top games the PC never had....), nothing beats the keyboard and the mouse when it's about controllers.
Perhaps the only thing what could be better than the mouse is if they would track my eyes or my brainwaves with some kind of lagless device, but even that, I'm not sure if it would be as much fun as using the mouse.


The 1v1 vs teamplay part is just so clueless it's not even worth to mention.

I thought about it and figured if dodging was controlled similarly by brainwaves, it likely wouldn't be possible to hit 100, depending on how the system would work - all hypothetical of course. Anyway when you factor in marketing, most people would buy into it being more fun if they tell us it is, even if using a mouse is still more fun. :(

I can't disagree with that. I think it depends on how precise one's eyes/brainwaves are. If simply thinking about hitting a target would suffice then certainty yes, you could not dodge that. It's something I hope some people in the industry are considering as far as future input devices are concerned.

I was talking about current q3 like FPS games with that kind of control. Games in the future could very well use such control without problem imho, you just have to add certain abilities to defend against such attacks (like peeking, only projectile or no instant kill weps, shields, or whatever the given game needs. etc...)

They should start making consoles with proper mouse support. Think of the money they could rake in marketing gaming mice to console users. Sure, a lot of those users would complain it gives an unfair advantage while forcing you to give up the whole purpose of the console but hey, money right?

I've read about one for the xbox360 and while it apparently works, it has some deadzone issues because the converter is telling the xbox it's a legit controller but it's translating mouse movement into joystick movement.

it's hilarious that they are saying that using a tool that is worse at control makes the game more skilled. The issue is that they will never EVER be able to do stuff like strafe jumping. etc. etc.

Hell, the glitch of strafe jumping and bunny jumping was only found cause we were able to use a mouse, there could be all sort of movement glitches in other FPS games that we cant explore because the control system is limited.
