Pretty cool thanks, just completed work for a documenatry airing september 9th (according to the producer). Here is a sneak peak of the early previz.



I did the graphics for the osama compound in 3D.

The client is a multi billion dollar broadcast corporation and my work will be seen by a few million people including the president, though having worked on bafta winning games like goldeneye and perfect dark by 21, and having my stuff seen by the queen, I must say its not a bit as deal as it used to be.

Because you were tester on Perfect Dark doesn't mean you've the won a bafta. It wasn't awarded to you, it was awarded to the product itself. Which you may or may not have helped conceive, but your role was very minor and I'm sure they would have managed without you.

Its real time using Unreal Engine/Matinee. Put a few filters on it in AE, but there is probably another 40% quality to come.

Was going to release it to play, but someone would have just ripped the model or modded my work and done something dodgy and I would get the blame :)

Final version will be rendered in MR with Maya. Wish I knew max.

Aye, can't trust modders today. ModDB is full of lazy bastards who rip stuff from any game and put it into some old derlict engine that can't support textures higher than 256^2 and facepunch will probably just port over the small things such as props for use in some shitty gmod comic that has flat humor and is probably written by a kid who has a IQ identical to his age. Modders today still can't put a torch to those back when Quake was released. Remember Nehahra? Seems like everything today is going downhill. :<

Anyways, I've not used Max to it's greatest extent only being a hobbyist, but I've definitely seen the effects of rendering such as V-Ray or MentalRay first hand and I really doubt that theres anything out there that could reproduce such amazing quality. (:

Yes, its a pre-viz, the trees are simply alpha polygons used to determine rough tree layout. Like I said things like Vegetation have been improved upon and make a big dif.

I can't wait to see where the FBI investigation regarding the alleged hacking of phones belonging to the families of 9/11 victims goes. This could _very_ seriously undermine Murdoch's reputation in the US (but on the other hand, the entire scandal could be a temporary setback from which Murdoch could very well fully recover, it's too early to tell). Even though I'll happily say "good riddance" regarding NotW, I sadly think there's a good chance that the shoes will be filled rather quickly (tabloids might lay a little lower at first though). Regarding the political and "beyond Murdoch" repercussions of the scandal, I think it's too soon to predict their full extent, we'll have to see how far it goes.
In case you're interested, I found this column in the NY Times rather interesting, it's not directly about the scandal but rather about Murdoch's influence over the content of the Wall Street Journal after he took over.

Given the special nature of news organization as the fourth branch of government, informants to the public, their ability to influence public opinion and just how otherwise vital it is to a healthy democracy, clear distinctions must be made from other businesses when it comes to regulating them.

I don't know where the line should be drawn, but when a single organization becomes too dominant it can definitely become a threat to democracy where unelected people with whatever agenda have enormous influence. As I understand it, the Australian born Rupert Murdoch has had every British PM since Thatcher in his pocket. What an embarrassment. No, media ownership should definitely be well regulated and even constitutionalized.
