ive seen every major tournament in this game series since 2002 and it puzzles me how people hardly noticed the greatness of jibo in 2008/9 that was onpar with cypher at that time (both played the most awesome quake ive ever witnessed in all that time)
and it also puzzles me how people think tox is able to own ql duel and call him the best quaker ever.. he was a medicore duellist in q3 with good aim but poor tactics and never won anything. his recent result at quakecon is exactly his standart. i dont wanna rant about q4 and his success there but ive seen av3k raping the shit out of him there and every q3 pro bitching in interviews about how unmotivated they are to play that game

Milton is the best qw player ever. You could speculate that Thresh was the best nq player, but he never displayed dominance vs the best euros across the pond. It's hard to say who was the absolute best back then because competition hadn't fully developed.

reppie has a ton of wins, but Milton always beats him.
Griffin only has 2 major duel wins. Dag has 3 and beat griffin in multiple competitions.
Milton has won every duel competition he has entered, although only one major lan and a bunch of online tourneys.
All 4 players have long lists of TDM wins. Milton's list is arguably the most impressive (dominance from 04' - 10').

IMO, you have to give the crown to either Dag or Milton.

Reppie has always been a spectator favourite but his performances in tournaments haven't always been as solid as these two guys track records.

Even in QW itself i think you need to make a distinction as the early days of QuakeWorld is nothing like today. I'd say between 1996-2002 or something, when the Flaming Fist era ended, is probably one part of it, then the game evolved so much in pace with bunnyjumping that you just can't compare the rest with the game back then.

I know, but that's just too much if you want to keep things simple.

For example you can easily see 3 different q3 eras, but in the end the easier approach is to just have 2 champions: the guy who won more big international tournaments (cgs invitational 1v1 match against stermy and other made up tournaments don't count, so maybe zero4 is), and the guy who achieved the highest skill level (cypher).
In most games both coincide because of their short lifespan (5 years or less).

The only case in which it's acceptable is in quake1 really, because the game has been around for 15 years and NQ is very different than QW.

Like I said, it's close in my opinion between him and rat, and I admit I didn't follow cpm closely in its prime, but when I got into it, I certainly was given the distinct impression that voo was the number one player. And of all the demos I downloaded, I found several voo vs rat demos and voo won them all. Some close (1 on cpm1a by 1 frag) and some pretty convincingly. Even from the in-game chat of the MVD demos between the spectators, they even seemed to have the idea that he's a cut above. But again, that's the impression I got at the time, and I've seen a number of demos between them and never once did rat win in them. Maybe challengetv only had voo winning demos though, who knows! :D

Sorry to break it too you but rat was miles better than voo, pretty much all those demos you watch are from pub servers not from competition, its like dkt or dehang posting practise games he won vs rapha every time he wins one

they were online tournament demos, not pubs. :P I went and downloaded all the demos I could get of the two (not to mention several other players), and several against each other, then how come I never saw a single demo where rat beat voo? link me to some demos where rat > voo and I'll gladly reconsider my opinion, but as far as I've seen, voo>rat. Maybe rat won a lan or something and voo didn't, but as far as the two of them against each other, seems pretty clear that voo was the better player, but I'll gladly let you link me to some demos or something that can show rat beating voo. Sounds like I'm being stubborn and arrogant about this, but I'm genuinely asking you to find some demos for me of rat's being better than voo! lol. I have no problem admitting rat is the best if I can see it for myself. I've just seen voo manhandle him in some online tournaments, so I always had voo>rat in my mind.

the only tourney demos up on ch-tv are from Berserk arQmode Cup which rat won vs vo0 in the end, all the other Event: none rat dominated cpm in all comps from 2000-2005/6 including playing on 100-170 ping the only other player close to him is apheleon

He was a Q4 boss and that's his title. His q3 duel was forgettable and Q3 TDM accomplishments mean little as it's team death match and you can argue fox just as much.
